  • Patent number: 4679475
Abstract: A trough conveyor receives small logs from a deck to form a bundle and conveys the bundled logs lengthwise to a discharge end. The log bundle is transported intermittently to project sections of the log bundle successively beyond the discharge end of the trough conveyor, which sections are cut off to form batches of bolts by vertically reciprocable twin saw cutoff mechanism. After a cutting operation, the saws may be swung away from each other to clear the trough conveyor while the saws are being raised and, during such raising movement, the trough conveyor may be powered to feed the log bundle lengthwise to project the next bolt-making increment of the logs beyond the cutoff mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4607558
Abstract: This machine is more particularly designed to make a series of slits across the external surface of a tire rethread band. The band is moved step-by-step by a conveyor belt; a guillotine-type blade is reciprocated up-and-down over the band supported by the conveyor belt and effects a slit in the band when the conveyor is stopped; the depth of the slits can be adjusted; the inclination of the slits with respect to the longitudinal axis of the band can be varied; the distance between the slits can be adjusted by varying the stroke of the belt advancing mechanism; the conveyor belt has an outer anti-skid surface and the tire rethread band is applied against the same by spring-biased pressure rollers which accommodate tire rethread bands of various thicknesses.

  • Patent number: 4519285
Abstract: A tape (100) is transported by a continuous strip of backing paper (102) along a tape guide (22) into position for the tape (100) to be cut by a blade (12). The tape guide (22) has an essentially flat center portion (24) and opposite side portions (28) that are inclined toward blade (12) relative to center portion (24). Side portions (28) are preferably smoothly curved. Side portions (28) guide the lateral edges of the tape (100) and paper (102) to bend toward blade (12) when a lateral cut is being made. This allows a cut of essentially constant depth to completely sever tape (100), including any fibers (106) that have come loose from the edges of paper (102), without severing paper (102).

  • Patent number: 4419914
Abstract: A method of forming cants slabbed on four sides from logs, and a sawmill assembly for effecting formation of the cants. First and second in-line sets of pairs of saws are provided, and a log is fed to the first set of saws in a horizontal direction, the first set of saws slabbing two opposed sides of the log. The log is continuously fed from the first set of saws to the second set of saws in the same horizontal direction, and the log is rotated 90.degree. about an axis along the horizontal direction during feeding from the first set to the second set of saws. The second set of saws slab two opposed sides of the log after 90.degree. rotation thereof, and a cant slabbed on four sides is thus formed. The distance between the pairs of saws of each set is adjustable by automatic detenting from one spacing to another, and the scrap is carried away from saw sets by conveyors outside of the saw sets.

  • Patent number: 4210184
Abstract: A resaw apparatus and method for rapidly and accurately cutting elongate wood cants longitudinally. A thin-kerfed circular saw blade is utilized to cut the cants and a high-speed feed mechanism, having two sets of separately driven dual rollers which pinch the cant therebetween for both moving the cant and determining its direction of movement, urges the cant against the cutting edge of the saw blade. A pair of blade guides mounted on opposite sides of the blade hold the blade in position while water is fed through the blade guides to the side surfaces of the blade, thereby lubricating the blade-guide interface and removing heat generated by the blade guide and cutting of the wood to prevent warping of the blade from heat. The direction of movement of the cants is determined by the orientation of the two sets of rollers, which are mounted on respective movable carriages supported by slides incorporating directional alignment adjustments therein.

  • Patent number: 3935773
Abstract: Box capacitors are loaded onto an in-line track feeder with the capacitor leads extending downward between a pair of tracks. Vibration of the tracks moves the capacitors thereon so that the capacitor leads pass between the meshing teeth of a drive gear and an idler gear that is caused to turn by the former. The tracks are spaced from the gears to prevent damping of vibrations of the former. The leading edges of the teeth on the gears have a radius thereon for providing smooth feeding action of the capacitor leads between the gear teeth. The drive gear also has a chamfer on the top edges of the teeth thereof to reduce the possibility of jamming on components with bent leads. A disk is attached to the underside of the idler gear for cutting the component leads to a prescribed length as they pass between the disk and the drive gear. The ends of the teeth on the idler gear are truncated such that a cut lead is compressed into a valley between teeth on the drive gear to thereby straighten these leads.
