  • Patent number: 4589319
Abstract: Apparatus for dispensing flat jumper cable assemblies in strip form from reel comprises slot-like guide having parallel first and second surfaces which receive strip therebetween; channels in first surface receive terminals crimped on cable to prevent lateral shifting so various widths of cable can be dispensed. Elongate apertures in second surface provide access for pawls which bear on terminals to urge cable forward as pawl carrier is advanced horizontally by handle; control is then transferred to a blade carrier which is moved vertically to draw twin blades across cable to sever intermediate portion of cable and isolate individual assembly from strip.

  • Patent number: 4558622
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cutting laminated glass, particularly large sheets. Laminated glass panes utilize two layers of glass having a thin layer of plastic material sandwiched adhesively between the two layers of glass. The apparatus simultaneously scores both sides of the laminated glass pane, i.e., both layers of glass that make up the laminated pane are simultaneously scored so that both layers of glass may be successively cracked along the score lines and the layers spaced apart along the score line while still connected by the layer of plastic material so as to give access to the intermediate layer of resilient plastic material, which is then cut in a subsequent step.

  • Patent number: 4542672
Abstract: A layup of sheet material clamped to a conveyor by a conveyor loading apparatus is pulled by and onto the conveyor from an adjacent supply table. The loading apparatus includes a clamping carriage assembly straddling the conveyor and supported for free rolling movement relative to the conveyor. Fluid motors mounted on the clamping carriage move a clamping bar from a released position into clamping engagement with the layup to clamp it between the conveyor surface and the clamping bar and couple the clamping carriage to the conveyor to move with the conveyor. A flexible hose wound on a pay-off reel mounted on the clamping carriage and spring biased toward wound position supplies pressure fluid to the fluid motors and biases the clamping carriage toward a retracted position near the supply table end of the conveyor when the clamping bar is in its released position.

Abstract: The mat cutting machine includes a base to which is attached, preferably by spring-loaded posts, a trapezoidial-shaped guide bar with a first face oriented to the base at an acute angle, the angle of the beveled cut desired to be made in a mat, and a second face at right angles to this first face. An L-shaped carriage including a cutting blade may be placed on the guide bar by, first, placing one of its edges against the back surface of the guide bar while bringing a portion of the front surface to bear on the front surface of the guide bar, then sliding the remaining portion of the carriage down upon the guide bar while keeping the inner surface of the carriage on the front surface of the guide bar. This action causes the cutting blade to enter a mat at the proper angle. Preferably the carriage and guide bar are made of wood.

  • Patent number: 4085926
Abstract: A tape splicer having a base, at least one groove extending longitudinally on said base and being of a predetermined breadth permitting insertion thereinto of a correspondingly wide tape to be spliced. A blade-guiding slot is provided in the groove to allow introduction thereinto of a blade, so that this blade moved along this slot will cut a tape laid along the groove. A pair of tiltable toggles is associated to the base. These toggles are located longitudinally of the groove and at opposite sides of the blade-guiding slot. At least one arm is comprised in each of the toggles and is provided with a tape-clamping means which is arranged so that it reaches, when the toggle is tilted, into the groove; thus, the pair of toggles engages with the tape-clamping means the tape laid into the groove thus securing a clean cut.

  • Patent number: 4077292
Abstract: A portable power tool having a sole plate for contacting a workpiece along which a straight line is to be cut has an attachment for the sole plate which includes means for supporting a guiding means which is adjustable with respect to the supporting means to cooperate with a longitudinal guide member releasably attached to the workpiece. The guide member may be angle iron, channel iron, I-beam or other similar configuration conveniently available to a workman and not especially designed to be used with the attachment.

  • Patent number: 4075920
Abstract: The power saw cutting guide consists of a guide plate and preferably means to secure the guide plate against a workpiece to be cut. This securing means may include a press plate which may be bolted together with the guide against a workpiece. The guide plate is adapted to be cut to size by the first cut of a power saw guided thereby and will thus be peculiarly adapted to that particlar power saw. To facilitate this function, at least the outer extremities of the guide plate spaced from a saw guiding shoulder are formed of a material which may be easily cut by a power saw guided thereby.

  • Patent number: 4056028
Abstract: The invention provides a method of guiding a portable power-saw across a workpiece being sawn. Apparatus for use in this method comprises a guide member which has a substantially flat surface which may be placed on the flat surface of the workpiece. The guide member has a straight edge and located on the flat surface of the guide member is a rod-holder which is orientated at a right angle or any other desired angle to the straight edge. A rod of material such as wood or plastic is inserted in the rod holder so that the rod extends therefrom for a few inches. The power-saw is then run along the straight edge of the guide member, with the sole plate of the saw maintained in snug contact therewith, until the rod is severed. Then the distance from the severed end of the rod to the straight edge is exactly the same as the distance between the sole plate edge and the saw blade.

  • Patent number: 4056027
Abstract: A device for cutting sheet material includes a pair of generally flat elongated members hingedly connected together for holding sheet material to be cut and a cutting block supported for sliding movement on an upper such holding member and having an upper portion extending across the upper holding member with side portions extending downwardly from the edges of the upper holding member for guiding movement of the block longitudinally of the holding member. The cutting block includes a cutting blade affixed to one of the side portions of the block parallel to and between the side portion and the adjacent holding member longitudinal edge.

  • Patent number: 4036090
Abstract: A carriage assembly for automatic face up one way spreading of multiple plys of fabric or any other web-like material of a predetermined length, which is automated to operate in a continuous manner in the absence of operator manipulation at the termination of each fabric spreading cycle. The device incorporates a fabric or web-cutting assembly normally enclosing a transversely traveling severing blade and means for automatically engaging the free end of the fabric after sequenced severing so as to maintain the fabric in a fixed relation relative to the assembly during return or non-spreading carriage motion thereby preventing disturbance or change of position of the free end of the fabric as caused by carriage motion airflow, so that upon automatic recommencement of spreading, the end of the fabric will be deposited at a predetermined position on the spreading surface which will be accurately repeated for each subsequent automatically deposited ply of fabric, thereby providing maximum fabric utilization.

  • Patent number: 4022095
Abstract: A blade is carried in a housing which is adapted to slide along a guide rail with the blade depending from the housing and making sliding contact over at least a portion of the length of the blade with a blade guide which runs parallel to the guide rail. A portion of the blade protrudes below the blade guide to engage in and cut a cardboard mount or the like situated below the guide. The blade is inclined so that while the cutting edge is parallel to and slides along the blade guide the plane of the blade is itself inclined to the said blade guide surface. The blade is detachably secured in the housing for replacement and is arranged so that one corner of the cutting edge protrudes below the level of the blade guide. The blade mounting is adjustable within the housing so that the amount by which the corner of the blade extends below the blade guide can be adjusted to control the depth of cut.
