Tool Carrier Oscillated Or Rotated Patents (Class 83/490)
  • Patent number: 6810780
Abstract: A compound miter saw includes a unique table assembly which incorporates a table locking mechanism and a detent override mechanism. The lock mechanism incorporated into the table assembly is movable between two positions. The first position locks the table to the miter saw and the second position permits rotation of the table. The detent override mechanism is normally engaged such that it will releasably hold the table in one of a plurality of popular miter angles. The detent override mechanism allows the operator to disengage the detent system to avoid the holding of the table during its rotation.

  • Patent number: 6779428
Abstract: An adjustment device for a compound miter saw includes a base having a top and a miter lip with detents, a turntable having a bottom and a miter assembly. The turntable is rotatably mounted on the top of the base, and the miter assembly is attached to the bottom of the turntable. The miter assembly includes a resilient biasing member having an engaging stop corresponding to the detents, a releasing rod rotatably mounted in the turntable, and an eccentric rotator having an eccentric portion and attached to the releasing rod corresponding to the resilient biasing member. The releasing rod rotates the eccentric rotator so the eccentric portion will push the engaging stop upward to disengage it from the detents to allow the turntable to be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 6758123
Abstract: A miter saw is provided having a support arm that is pivotally mounted to a base for adjustment of a pivot angle, the saw including a detent mechanism to provide pivot stops at common bevel angles, such as at 45° L, 0° (vertical), and 45° R. The detent mechanism includes a step-shaped, arcuate detent block mounted to the support arm in an adjustable manner to permit the accurate setting of the block in a home position. In an embodiment, a pair of set screws acts against opposite ends of the detent block, permitting precise adjustment in either direction. An axially movable detent pin is mounted to the base to contact against stepped surfaces of the block. The arm is free to pivot within a bevel angle range defined by one of the surfaces. Steps between surfaces act as a pivot stops, abutting the pin at a corresponding predetermined angle of the arm.

  • Patent number: 6736703
Abstract: A cutting blade is fixed on a shaft that rotates about its shaft center, and that is linearly advanced by an advancing movement. The shaft's center further revolves with a small radius of revolution at a rapid predetermined rate of revolution greater than the rate of advancing movement. Thus the blade is pressed against and cuts a substrate and produces chips, and the blade is intermittently disengaged from the substrate whereby the chips move in the direction in which the blade rotates to be removed from between the cutting edge of the blade and the substrate. This reduces working resistance, enhances working efficiency, and prevents the blade surface from having significant frictional heat. Furthermore, the generated frictional heat can readily dissipate and the blade can thus have a long life.

  • Patent number: 6684519
Abstract: It is a miter saw table that has adjustable measuring tapes. The tape sections can be calibrated so that the zero point on the tape is always set at the outer surface of the blade. This is done by using slidable wings that can be secured to a base. The wings a readjusted until the built-in tapes match a control tape. Once the wings are set, cuts can be made quickly by either setting a stop at the precise distance needed, or by sliding the board under the blade until the end of the board aligns with the desired measurement. The board can then be accurately cut without having to measure and mark the board first. Moreover, if the blade is changed during the course of work. The measuring system can be quickly re-calibrated to the thickness of the new blade and cuts can immediately be resumed.

The bevel angle adjustment mechanism supports cutting unit for movement in a first direction from a vertical position to a bevel angle position greater than 45° from vertical. The bevel angle adjustment mechanism also supports the cutting unit for movement in a second direction opposite to the first direction to approximately a negative 5° bevel angle position.

Abstract: The cutting blade of a continuous motion saw is mounted on a skew arm which rotates about an axis which is skewed relative to the path along which the product to be cut is advanced. The blade rotates about an axis which is parallel to the path. The blade orbits in a planetary manner to compensate for the skew angle and to ensure that the blade remains perpendicular to the path. Grinding stones for the blade are mounted radially inwardly of the blade throughout the entire orbit of the blade.
