Abstract: The invention concerns a device for die-cutting a stack of sheet-like materials, particularly labels, whereby the stack is pressed into the die-cutter blade by a relative movement of a punching ram and a hollow cylindrical die-cutter blade. For a device such as this, it is proposed that the die-cutter blade 18 is adjustably held in a frame 16, and the frame 16 is accommodated by a receiving apparatus 13 which is mounted in a punch platen 12 and is adjustable relative to it, whereby the frame 16 can be slid in a plane parallel to the punch platen 12, in particular is adjustable in the direction of two major axes that are essentially arranged perpendicular to one another, and can also be tilted out of the plane. Such a device allows for precise orientation of the die-cutter blade relative to the stack to be punched.

  • Patent number: 5152204
Abstract: An improvement is made to a die cutting press and to the method of die cutting in a press by providing two opposing and oppositely driven clamping bars which move together to clamp the die board and to accurately position the clamped die board at a predetermined location within the press. The press is operated to determine the adequacy of the cut produced by the die in sheet material fed into the press. If the cut is unsatisfactory, the opposing clamp bars are quickly driven apart thereby releasing the die board. The die board can be removed from the press and then manipulated or modified to cure any imperfection in the cut. The modified die board is then reinserted into the press and accurately repositioned at the predetermined location within the press by driving the opposing clamping bars towards each other against the die board.

Abstract: A punch press for cutting windows in a ball cage. The ball cage is held in an established position. A first press assembly includes a first frame member and a punch assembly on a first surface of the cage, for cutting a portion of the cage. A second press assembly includes a second frame member, a cutting bed for supporting a second surface of the cage, said first and second surfaces being opposite surfaces of the cage, around the portion to be cut by the punch assembly. It also includes a counterpunch for opposing the punch assembly on the second surface. Pressure is applied to the second press assembly toward the punch assembly.

  • Patent number: 4548106
Abstract: According to the disclosed process, an endless fibrous material to be cut is wound in spiral form onto a rotatable cutter roll having radially outwardly oriented knives. A cutting force acts from the outside of the cutter roll radially inwardly, by way of a pressure roller contacting the wound material, for cutting, for example, synthetic fibers. In the process, at least two cutting forces are effective against the axis of the cutter roll, these forces being directed against each other. In the apparatus for conducting the process, two pressure rollers are articulated to each other by way of a double rocket arm. Consequently, the optimum cutting level, which will be different in individual cases, is automatically set. The effective cutting force for each roller is of equal strength.

  • Patent number: 4466318
Abstract: A drive system for the cutting station in a platen press has four toggle joints supporting the platen and each having a cam follower for moving the toggle joint by an associated rotating cam. The four toggle joints are disposed in pairs perpendicularly to the transport direction of sheets in the press. The pairs of toggle joints are aligned, with one pair of toggle joints being disposed between the other pair. The toggle joints are connected to a release device controlled by a security coupling. The cams are mounted on a common shaft provided at one end with a braking mechanism. Declutching of the security coupling simultaneously commands operation of each release device and of the braking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4442740
Abstract: A method and device are described for producing slitted plastic film sheets of the type used for wrapping lettuce and similar produce. A form of punch press is used with an upper ram and lower platen and a tray moves in and out horizontally between the ram and platen. On the tray is a die with slitter blades over which is placed a stack of plastic film sheets. The tray moves in and the ram presses down on the sheets, cutting slits through the stack. Then the tray moves out and the stack of slitted sheets is removed. A single operator can produce 450 slitted sheets per minute with this system.

  • Patent number: 4422358
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting a continuous narrow strip into short sections. The apparatus comprises a rotatable yoke which has attached thereto a plurality of blades, each of which has an edge provided with a row of teeth. The yoke is adjacent a stationary blade which has an edge provided with a row of teeth. The teeth of the blades which are attached to the yoke and the teeth of the stationary blade mesh as the yoke rotates.A guide member directs a continuous strip generally vertically downwardly to a position between the yoke and the stationary blade. Thus, as the yoke rotates, the strip is cut into short sections which fall downwardly from the yoke and from the stationary blade.

  • Patent number: 4345355
Abstract: Process and apparatus for continuously cutting a tow of continuous filaments and opening the resulting fibers are described. Immediately after the tow is cut, while the fibers are still in an orderly array, they are transported to an opening device, especially garnett wires, where the fibers are opened without damage. The apparatus modifies existing tow cutting devices of the type including crown-arranged and radially oriented knives, means for winding the tow around the knife edges and means for pressing the tow against the knife edges by providing an annular fiber collector at the rear of the ring of knives for collecting the fibers while they are still oriented in the same direction and feeding the orderly array of fibers to at least one garnett wire carried on at least one rotatable cylinder located at the outlet of the fiber collector.

  • Patent number: 3935773
Abstract: Box capacitors are loaded onto an in-line track feeder with the capacitor leads extending downward between a pair of tracks. Vibration of the tracks moves the capacitors thereon so that the capacitor leads pass between the meshing teeth of a drive gear and an idler gear that is caused to turn by the former. The tracks are spaced from the gears to prevent damping of vibrations of the former. The leading edges of the teeth on the gears have a radius thereon for providing smooth feeding action of the capacitor leads between the gear teeth. The drive gear also has a chamfer on the top edges of the teeth thereof to reduce the possibility of jamming on components with bent leads. A disk is attached to the underside of the idler gear for cutting the component leads to a prescribed length as they pass between the disk and the drive gear. The ends of the teeth on the idler gear are truncated such that a cut lead is compressed into a valley between teeth on the drive gear to thereby straighten these leads.
