Abstract: A grid for a battery plate is made by forming a metal sheet is formed into a grid-like shape. Rupture due to torsion or stress concentration does not occur in a basal portion of a wire which is drawn out from a node of the grid, thereby preventing corrosion due to electrolyte from advancing so as not to cause a crack of corrosion in an early stage. The invention provides also a battery using the grid for a battery plate, a method of producing the grid for a battery plate, and a battery using it.

Abstract: A method and system of cutting parts from sheet material is disclosed. The system identifies critical segments of the cutting path where cutting difficulties may arise and modifies the data that guide the cutting tool for more accurate cutting through the critical segments. In particular, the system identifies segments of the cutting path proximately close to one another called “common line segments” and generates a optimized cutting path using a single pass to cut common line segments and minimizing total cutting time, including dry haul time. The method and system of the present invention provide an optimal cutting path and control of a cutting tool resulting in higher quality cut pieces and the higher throughput. An initial opening is formed in the sheet without severing reinforcing cords (20) within the elastomeric sheet by a penetrator/separator (40). Two ultrasonic knives are inserted on either side of the penetrator/separator (40) and positioned to cut the sheet at a small skive angle &agr; with respect to the plane of the sheet being cut. Then the knives are moved to opposite edges of the sheet of elastomeric material.

Abstract: An apparatus for slitting a sheet material web as it is wound onto a roll including at least one winding drum supporting the web, a moveably reel spool positioned in a parallel and spaced apart relationship with the winding drum, a slitting device and a control system. The slitting device includes a track member and a slitting member moveably mounted on the track member. The slitting member continuously slits the sheet material web longitudinally along its length as it is wound onto the roll. The control system controls the position of the slitting member on the track so as to maintain a predetermined penetration of the slitting member within the roll as the roll increases in size.

Abstract: A cake pan adapted for guidance in cutting a cake provides a pan bottom and a peripheral pan sidewall integral with the pan bottom and directed upwardly for terminating with a pan sidewall edge. The sidewall edge provids plural circular guide pins. A straightedge ruler has a straight edge of a length sufficient to span the cake pan from any one selected position on the sidewall edge to any further selected position on the sidewall edge. The guide pins are positioned such that with the straightedge ruler in contact with any selected pair of the guide pins, the straight edge is positioned for guiding straight-line cutting of the cake in a desired location on the cake corresponding to the straight edge.

  • Patent number: 6516693
Abstract: The invention consists of a process for the control of the motorized feed drive for the movable workplace table of a machine tool, in particular the rolling carriage of a circular saw. The manual force that is applied by the operator in direction of the feed is sensed and converted to a corresponding measured value. From this a set value for the feed rate of the rolling carriage is created and from that is derived a control signal for the drive.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and arrangement for processing a wide paper or board web in connection with such a manufacturing method, in which a wide base web (14) is manufactured and the base web is processed in at least one processing stage before the separation of the finished product by cutting it transversely from the web on the production line. According to the invention, the base web (14) is divided at least once to form two part-webs (17, 18) before the separation of the finished product by cutting it transversely from the web and before the final processing stage preceding separation. At least one part-web (17, 18) formed in this manner is guided to a finishing stage before the separation of the finished product by cutting it transversely from the web on the production line.

Abstract: A method is provided for cutting tying elements of successive tobacco leaf bundles, wherein the butt ends of the leaves of each bundle are grouped and secured together by a transversely extending tying element disposed in surrounding relation to the grouped together butt ends. The method comprises moving successive bundles along a predetermined path past a cutting station with the grouped butt ends of successive bundles disposed transverse to the path within a predetermined transverse position within the path. A liquid jet configuration is established at the cutting station and moved through a repetitious path having a transverse extent greater than the transverse extent of the tying elements within the transverse position of the butt ends of the bundles. The moving jet configuration is directed onto the butt ends of successive bundles during the movement thereof along the predetermined path through the cutting station to transversely cut the tying elements thereof.
