  • Patent number: 7152515
Abstract: Cutter suitable for artificial flower stems. Typically, plastic coated wire stems are cut with hand cutters to various lengths in preparing artificial floral arrangements. The invention requires far less physical effort by the operator than is required when using conventional wire cutters. In the preferred use of the preferred embodiment of the invention, an uncut stem is inserted crosswise through two elongated holes in the guard housing. When the cutter jaws open, the stem is pushed into the open jaws and is cut to a desired length from the flower end when the jaws close. In the preferred embodiment of the invention a gear reduction motor drives an arm and cam roller assembly. That cam roller forces the top handle of the cutter downward causing the jaws to close. As the cycle continues, the cam roller raises and a spring causes the jaws to open.

  • Patent number: 5499565
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting a conveyor belt. The conveyor belt is clamped against a cutting surface on the base of the apparatus by a pair of parallel clamping bars. A lever arm is pivoted to, and is axially slidable on, a shaft disposed parallel to the clamping bars and the lever arm carries a cutting head. A pair of blades are mounted in an acute angle relation on the cutting head, and as the lever arm is manually pivoted downwardly, the blades cut a pair of slits in the belt. The lever arm is then pivoted up and advanced axially along the shaft and the cutting action is repeated to thereby cut a plurality of V-shaped fingers in the belt, which can be interdigitated with fingers of a second belt end and subsequently bonded together to provide an endless spliced belt.

  • Patent number: 5457889
Abstract: A portable, power-driven machine for cutting a threaded rod to any required length by the shearing action of a movable cutting bit thrust past a fixed cutting bit. Each cutting bit has a series of semicircular internal threads for mating engagement with the threaded rod, and a cutting face disposed perpendicular to the axis of the internal threads. A depression with a depth less than the thread pitch is formed in the cutting face of the fixed cutting bit. When the threaded rod is sheared, to one rod section is partly received in the depression at the end of the cutting stroke of the movable cutting bit, in order to prevent the jamming engagement of the movable cutting bit with the rod section through their mating threads. A similar depression is formed in the cutting face of the movable cutting bit in an alternate embodiment of the invention.

  • Patent number: 5394782
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for selectively shearing angle iron and flat stock. The apparatus has a frame defining a receiving station for separately receiving angle iron or flat stock. The receiving station includes a stationary shear blade assembly having two shearing edges extending from a vertex to define a generally 90.degree. angle inside corner. A first arm is pivotally mounted to the frame about a first pivot axis. A second arm is pivotally mounted to the first arm for pivoting movement about a second pivot axis. The second arm includes a movable shear blade assembly having two shearing edges directed outwardly to define a generally 90.degree. angle outside corner. An actuator is mounted on the frame for pivoting the first arm about the first pivot axis between open and closed positions. The second arm defines a guide way, and the frame has a guide member which is selectively positionable relative to the first axis for slidably engaging the guide way to pivot the second arm about the second pivot axis.

Abstract: A tape printer for making adhesive labels includes a tape supply, a printer for reverse printing on the tape and a double-sided adhesive film, one side of which is laminated to the printer tape and the other side of which carries a release paper. The printer has a cutter for cutting the tape from the continuous supply tape and includes a trimmer for rounding the corners of the tape to reduce defoliation of the tape from the surface to which it is applied. The cutting blade of the trimmer has a central straight section, contiguous arcuate section at each end of the central straight section and auxiliary straight cutting edges contiguous with the arcuate sections and extending at an obtuse angle to the central straight section. The cutting blade is mounted in an integrally molded support unit which includes guide members for guiding tape of a width to be trimmed by the cutting blade.

Abstract: A cropping mechanism for a surface mount machine is disclosed which cuts the feed tape supplying electronic components. The displacement of an actuator in one direction between end positions cycles the cropping blade from a start location to the cutting location and back to the start location. • Patent number: 5052256
Abstract: A shingle cutting apparatus includes a base, a lever arm pivotally mounted to the base, and a pair of diverging cutting blades mounted to the lever arm. The base includes a shingle-receiving surface upon which a shingle may be positioned for cutting. A pair of grooves are defined in the shingle-receiving surface corresponding to the positions of the cutting blades. In operation, the lever arm is moved downwardly against a shingle, and the cutting blades extend through the shingle and into the corresponding grooves in the base. A ruled back stop and a removable end stop are included to facilitate desired cutting of a shingle. The apparatus may be modified to replace the pair of diverging blades with a single, perpendicular blade for cutting straight-line partial shingles. The apparatus is particularly useful for cutting partial shingles in a variety of widths, and most particularly for cutting the conventional six-sided ridge cap shingle.

Abstract: A hand-operated rebar cutting apparatus including first and second discs carried by a shaft mounted on a frame. The discs are pivotable relative to each other and each includes grooves which can be aligned for receipt of a bar to be cut. The first discs is pivotal on a shaft carried by a frame and moves incrementally through a predetermined arc such that the grooves become substantially axially offset from each other. The appartus is attached to a manually operable bender and straightener having a linearly reciprocable slide mounted within a guideway. As the slide is reciprocated, the first and second discs of the apparatus are pivoted relative to each other. The apparatus includes a ratchet mechanism for allowing incremental pivoting of the discs relative to each other through the predetermined arc, while allowing reciprocable movement of the slide to its initial position without returning the first and second discs to the position in which the grooves are aligned.
