  • Patent number: 4771668
Abstract: An elongated member (20) is fed by a feed conveyor (12) through a cutter (14) which is actuated to cut a first section (21). A takeaway conveyor (16) carries the first section (21) and a second section with a gap between the trailing end of the first section (21) and the leading end of the second section. Detection means (22) located along the takeaway conveyor (16) at a predetermined distance (L) from the cutter (14) actuates the cutter (14) in response to detection of the leading end of the second section providing a second section of a predetermined length (L). Other detection means (42,132) located at other positions along the conveyors (12,16) provide for stopping the apparatus (10) in the event of jamming or after the trailing end of the elongated member (20) reaches the feed conveyor (12).

  • Patent number: 4754676
Abstract: A device for removing the perforated guide edges from computer paper by a shearing action. The computer paper is supported on a support plate of a first frame, with the line of perforations substantially aligned with a shearing edge provided on the distal end of the support plate. A shearing mechanism is slidably mounted for vertical movement in a second frame which is secured to the top of the first frame. The shearing mechanism includes a shear plate which is movable downward for engagement with the computer paper along the line of perforations where application of an additional force to the shear plate results in clearly shearing the perforated edges from the computer paper. Springs bias the shear plate upwardly for another shearing operation.

  • Patent number: 4545273
Abstract: A multiple punching machine for punching out holes in the partition walls of a battery box. To accommodate all the different sizes and shapes and dimensions of battery boxes, the machine has multiple punching heads which are independently operated and independently positioned longitudinally, laterally, and vertically. Each head consists of a pair of pivoted punch jaws of small transverse dimensions to fit into small battery cells and each head is operated by an independent pneumatic ram with the piston rod moving along the length of the limbs of the jaw to minimize transverse diemensions. By using independent heads the reaction force at each punch is absorbed thus eliminating a heavy frame.

  • Patent number: 4471679
Abstract: A force is applied to a tool, such as a strip steel knife, a counter-holder or the like, through a linear pneumatic drive including a pressure expandable hose closed at its ends which expands in a given direction. The hose, a reaction plate and a force output plate extend in parallel to each other and through at least one modular reaction bail form a modular drive unit. Force transmission lever means extending at an angle to said given direction are operatively interposed between the force output plate and the tool for applying the force in a plane extending at an angle or in parallel to said given direction, whereby the compactness and versatility of a cutting apparatus employing such modular drive units is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 4426782
Abstract: An attachment is provided for selectively operating one of a variety of tools for removable attachment to the arm of a backhoe machine from which the bucket has been removed. One of the tools may have a first portion movable with respect to a second portion. Each of the tools are mounted to a rigid bar, any one of which is alternatively insertable into one end of a frame fittable on the backhoe arm. The backhoe includes a hydraulic cylinder disposed along the arm for pivoting the bucket when attached, and the attachment is provided with a sliding member connectable with the end of the cylinder for movement thereby along the attachment frame. A guide member directs the sliding member along the length of the frame. A lever is pivotally attachable at one end to a movable portion of the movable tool, and is pivotally attachable at an opposite end to the sliding member when the tool is secured in place along the frame.

  • Patent number: 4130037
Abstract: A shear for cutting sheet material which functions by pivoting a specially constructed pointed blade about an axis by means of an arm so that the blade pierces into and then cuts the sheet is described as well as the method for its use. The blade is constructed such that it has double cutting edges forming a point wherein the cutting edge towards the pivot axis for the arm is concave and forms the point with the other cutting edge in a shape which approximates a shark's tooth. The blade pierces the sheet when the arm is pivoted towards the sheet and then cuts outward along a square edged surface on a frame supporting the arm away from the place where the sheet was pierced by the point. The shear is particularly adapted for the hand cutting of U shaped building channel to a predetermined length.

  • Patent number: 4126069
Abstract: A microtome for stable production of continuously cut thin sections of a specimen for electronmicroscopic examination by an electromagnetic drive mechanism. Employing a lever hinged so as to swing in a dynamically balanced state, and a specimen holder attached to one end of the lever opposite to a knife, the electromagnetic mechanism drives the other end of the lever so that on every swinging of the lever the specimen is cut by the knife with accurate speed control for continuously cutting. Also, the electromagnetic drive realizes an automated specimen cutting cycle.

  • Patent number: 4054073
Abstract: A cutting tool is provided with a plurality of circular cutting blades of varying predetermined thicknesses to shear sections from rings made of precious metals. Each blade is formed with a notched perimeter to provide a pair of blade cutting edges. The blades are mounted on a spindle for rotation therewith, while the spindle is rotatably mounted in a plurality of cutting blocks which are affixed to a base in an alternating arrangement with the aforesaid blades. The cutting blocks define cutting edges so that rotation of the spindle causes the blade cutting edges formed by the notched perimeter to come into a simultaneous shearing relation with the cutting edges of the two adjacent cutting blocks. Further rotation of the spindle will shear out a section of a ring interposed in the notched perimeter of the blade. The tool is further provided with removable trays to catch sheared pieces of precious metals. Rotation of the spindle is accomplished through a conventional crank handle.
