The device comprises a frame having a cover hinged on the frame, a printer, cutter means, and guide means for guiding the tape between the printer and the cutter means. According to the invention, the guide means are formed by two walls substantially parallel to the axis of a paper drive roller, one wall being carried by the cover and the other wall being carried by the frame, in such a manner as to impose an S-bend on the portion of the tape that extends between the printer and the cutter means.

Abstract: There is provided a half-cutting device which makes it possible to attain the energy saving, downsizing of the construction of a tape printing apparatus using the device, and reliable cutting with a beautiful cut, and the tape printing apparatus incorporating the device. A half-cutting mechanism carries out half-cutting on a tape material introduced between the same and a tape-receiving member in a direction of the tape material. A half cutter of the half-cutting mechanism has a cutter blade formed by an angular blade, and performs a cutting operation on the tape material by moving in a direction of the width of the tape material. A cutter moving mechanism causes the half cutter to cyclically move through a cutting wait position, a cutting start position, a cutting completed position, a withdrawn position, and then to the cutting wait position.

Abstract: Method and a device for slitting a material web traveling in the run direction in which at least one knife unit with a cutting edge, and arranged on a carrier that is movable transversely to the run direction in a machine frame, is positioned. A measurement device measures the position. The position measurement is improved in that the measurement device has two measurement transducers. A first measurement transducer is arranged on the carrier and measures the distance from the cutting edge to a reference point that is fixed with respect to the carrier. A second measurement transducer measures the distance between a reference point that is fixed with respect to the carrier and a zero point that is fixed in the machine frame. The absolute position of the cutting edge is established by combining the two distances.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a film cutter assembly in which a blade housing slides along a pair of rails. The blade housing is formed of an upper portion for housing the blade. Either end of the upper portion has a rounded inclined shape from a bottom edge to form a sled shaped runner. The sled shaped runner extends beyond the blade such that the user is prevented from touching the blade. A lower portion of the blade housing slidables bilaterally in a cavity formed below the rails. A clearance is formed between the blade and the rails to allow the blade housing to easily slide over a film to be cut even if the film bunched or doubled over. The upper portion of the blade housing has a concave shape for allowing a user's fingers to easily grip the blade housing. Preferably, the rails are formed of a material which provides an attractive charge to attract the film to the rail and help hold the film flat before and after cutting. For example, the rails can be formed of flexible vinyl or acetal.

Abstract: A cutting mechanism having a movable carriage and two cutters. Each cutter has an anvil that opposes a blade, and one of these is a roller that rolls against the other for progressively biasing material against the blades, producing cuts through the material. The rollers are rotatably mounted to the carriage, which is mounted to a lead screw that controls the position of the carriage. As the carriage moves across the material, the rollers roll, and the material is cut. The space between the anvil and the blade of at least one of the cutters can be varied to disengage that cutter so that the rolling of the roller will not cut the material. The engagement and disengagement of the cutter is dependent on the position of the carriage.

The printer platen has a stationary cutter bar which extends in a channel in the platen transversely of the path of paper movement and has a cutter wheel receiving well at one end of the channel into which the cutter wheel drops without contacting the platen or cutter bar at commencement of a cutting operation. Camming surfaces on the platen engage the side of a cutter drive wheel to move the cutter wheel into engagement with the cutter bar and then to raise the cutter wheel to the proper amount of operational overlap of the cutting edges as the cutter assembly moves across the paper path.
