  • Patent number: 4833957
Abstract: Method and apparatus for cutting off selected length panels from an indefinte length strip of fabric with minimum waste, the fabric being comprised as superposed longitudinal and transverse elongate elements, wherein the transverse elements may deviate from strict perpendicularity to the length direction of the strip, e.g., be skewed or bowed. A support defines a path along which the strip of fabric and its longitudinal elements are to extend. A cutter unit is actuable for cutting elements of the strip to cut off a panel from the strip. A transverse moving unit relatively moves the cutter means and strip in a direction transverse to the length of the strip to cut the full width of the strip and thereby separate a panel therefrom. A longitudinal moving unit is actuable for relatively moving the cutter and strip in a direction longitudinal of the strip.

  • Patent number: 4506575
Abstract: A core slabber for removing paper from the cores of fiberboard rolls where the cores are to be reused comprising a horizontal core support, a clamp plate on the core support, a camshaft internally of the core support to move a pin outwardly radially from said core support to move said clamp outwardly to engage the interior of the core. Tracks parallel to the axis of said core support carry a cutting blade on a blade carrier. A mechanism for moving said cutting blade accurately into engagement with selected depths of outer layers of paper on the core in order to cut the paper several layers at each pass in order to remove the paper and prepare the core for reuse. A sensor is also provided to limit the movement of the blade toward the core and also to limit and reverse the traverse of the blade parallel to the axis of the core.

Abstract: An automatic mat cutting apparatus for simultaneously cutting a rectangular opening in a rectangular mat is disclosed. The mat cutting apparatus includes four mat cutters which are cooperatively mounted and moved to cut the rectangular opening. A control device controls the movement of the mat cutters. The size of the opening which is cut in the mat is adjustable by adjusting the mountings for the mat cutters relative to each other. Two mats having slightly different sized openings are easily cut by an easy adjustment of the mat cutters relative to the respective mountings.

  • Patent number: 4490920
Abstract: A guide clamp is disclosed which includes a clamping jaw at one end of a guide bar. An opposing shifting jaw is slidably carried on the guide bar to permit a workpiece to be embraced by the jaws. A pull rod associated with and parallel to the guide bar is connected to a lever on the clamp jaw. The shifting jaw locks onto this pull rod when the jaws embrace a workpiece and actuation of the lever then pulls the jaws together to clamp onto the workpiece and hold the guide clamp thereon. The shifting jaw will lock onto the pull rod by engaging a smooth-surfaced pull rod with a frictional grip or by engaging threads or notches on the pull rod with a locking grip. Guideways to guide and hold tools, jigs and the like are provided on the guide bar.

  • Patent number: 4480517
Abstract: Back-splitting apparatus for use in the production of books such as account books, notebooks, textbooks and the like for separating a block of stacked sheets of paper, bound together at one side by gluing and constituting a plurality of books, into individual books. A plurality of projection pieces are provided at one sides of the final sheets of the respective books of the block. A suction member is disposed at the position faced with one of the projection pieces, and a pawl member is disposed movably to the lower portion of the suction member. The block of stacked sheets of paper is separated into individual books accurately by advancing a back-splitting cutter knife into the back surface side of the projection piece interposed between the suction member and the pawl member. Thus, this apparatus can effectively separate a block of stacked sheets of paper made of thick and extremely thin sheets.

  • Patent number: 4457199
Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus and a method for cutting a series of spaced-apart continuous linear slits in a sheet of flexible plastics material, for example in the manufacture of an adjustable width window blind. In one embodiment the apparatus includes a feed roller for feeding sheeting to be slit to a support means, a plurality of slitting blades movable in a direction transverse to the direction of travel of the sheeting and means for controlling the blades so that they cut to a depth less than the thickness of the material. In a second embodiment the blades are stationary and are adapted to cut in the direction of travel of the material. The blades may be mounted on leaf springs biased towards the material to be cut, means being provided for controlling the biasing force. Alternatively, a stop may be provided to control the depth of cut of the blades.

The dispenser is suspensible from a vertical surface, such as a wall of a room or a panel of a camera unit (which latter may have an entry access for a severed length of the material). The dispenser has a channel which defines a rectilinear frame in which a sheet material cassette is light-sealingly nested and restrained. The cassette intimately engages the innermost portion of the channel to feed sheet material therefrom to the aforesaid nipping rollers, which are in adjacency thereto.

Within the housing is a support structure for receiving a plurality of cassettes of photographic sheet material, such as photosensitive paper and negative stock. To the support structure are mounted a plurality of platforms which grip the cassettes, and a plurality of chutes for conveying the sheet materials from the cassettes to the discharging opening. Rollers intrude into the chutes and define nips which grasp the sheet material and a handwheel fixed to one roller of pairs thereof is used to advance the sheet material along the chutes. A bladed cutter is reciprocatingly supported by the housing, in immediate adjacency to the discharging opening, for severing thereat lengths of sheet material which are passed therethrough.
