Edge-to-edge Of Sheet Or Web (e.g., Traveling Cutter) Patents (Class 83/614)
  • Patent number: 5759350
Abstract: A papermaking process dry end slabbing method using high pressure fluid cutting moves generally parallel to a spool at the end of the papermaking process. The process removes multiple layers of unwanted paper which may be of the wrong grade, poor quality, mis-spooled or otherwise damaged from the spool. A first method uses a carriage mounting an articulated cutter. Vertically extensible pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders and anti-oscillation and thrust support telescopic stanchions displace the cutter in response to input from a set of sensors used to detect a surface of the paper. A track embedded in the floor guides the carriage generally parallel to the spool. The track can be a geared rack, a rail, a channel defined in the floor or a wire embedded in the floor. A driven pinion gear or wheel, undriven foot or wheel, or sensing equipment disposed within the carriage interacts with the track to guide the carriage.

Abstract: A method and a device for joining rubber sheets. A pressing disk having a shape that a cutting disk is cut at an edge thereof by about 0.7 mm to 1.0 mm joins with pressure edge parts of unvulcanized rubber sheets which are stackably aligned with one another and clamped. The cutting disk cuts the joined edge parts of the rubber sheets. Another pressing disk having a shape that the edge of the cutting disk is cut by about 0.7 mm to 1.0 mm is moved on the cut edge parts along the cutting line in the same manner as the cutting disk, thereby securely joining the joined parts by pressing them again.

  • Patent number: 5671647
Abstract: A paper cutter comprising: a bed for placing paper to be cut thereon; a rail mounted on the bed; a slider made slidable along the rail; and a rotary blade carried by the slider for cutting the paper as the slider is moved. Further comprised are springs for supporting the two ends of the rail therethrough on the bed so that the rail may move up and down. The rail has its lower face formed on its end edge with a cutting position determining face such that the slider is fitted on the rail in a position where the rotary blade runs along the positioning face. With this construction, the rail itself is supported in a floating state on the bed. As a result, the paper is cut with the rotary blade by lowering the floating rail with the depression of the slider and by clamping the paper under pressure only at the portion to be cut between the rail and the bed as the slider is moved.

  • Patent number: 5613415
Abstract: A paper cutting apparatus includes an elongated fixed blade, a movable blade, a fixed member, a pair of paper holding members, and a coupling portion. The movable blade reciprocates along the fixed blade in the direction of the width of paper to cut the paper in cooperation with the fixed blade. The fixed member is arranged midway along the path of the movable blade. The paper holding members are movably arranged on two sides of the fixed member and alternately hold the cut end portion of the paper cut by the movable blade. The coupling portion detachably couples the movable blade and the paper holding members with a predetermined coupling force, and cancels the coupling between the movable blade and one of the paper holding members by using the fixed member, while coupling the movable blade and the other of the paper holding members during movement of the movable blade in a paper cutting operation.

Abstract: In a cutting device having a moving (disc) cutter and a fixed cutter which extends in a cutting direction, wherein the moving cutter moves along the fixed cutter, thereby cutting a medium which is interposed therebetween, a presser member which is movable together with a medium pressing interlocking plate is lowered to press on the medium to fix the same at a portion close to a cutting position since a bearing attached to the moving cutter engages with the medium pressing interlocking plate to press down the same as the moving cutter moves. Since the moving cutter cuts the medium at this state, the cut edge of the medium can be excellent in linearity even if it has low rigidity in the outward-surface direction at right angles to the surface thereof. While the moving cutter does not cut the medium, the presser member is retracted to a standby position.

A pair of second guide rails spaced from each other by the predetermined width allows the strip to be rotated 90.degree. and positioned between the second guide rails and respective abutting contact therewith. Movement of the cutter blades along the cutting path completes the cutting of the strip into a precise square.

Abstract: An object of this invention is to improve the sharpness of cutting and to prolong the longevity of the blade by increasing the cutting speed with a rotation of the round blade cutter that is more than the normal rotation of 1:1.The base 34 is linked with the drawing head 8 by means of the detachable hook 16 and the hook receiver 32, and when the base 34 moves along the rail 6 with the drawing head 8, the rubber roller 46 rotates with the friction with the paper-mounting plate 2. The rotation of the rubber roller 46 is transmitted to the round blade cutter 40 by means of the speed increasing mechanism, and the round blade cutter 40 rotates at a high speed in the same direction with the rubber roller 46 and moves along the cutter groove 4 to cut the paper 12.

Abstract: An apparatus and process are disclosed for removal of a stripe of soft reflective material of uniform width from the surface of a mirror by using a blade having a large included angle to inhibit curling of the blade during the cutting operation which could result in damage to the glass substrate of the mirror. The cutting blade is maintained at a low blade angle with respect to the mirror surface to produce minimal chipping along the cut edge and to minimize the force exerted on the coating normal to the glass surface which could deform the flat mirror. The mirror is mounted in a cutting mechanism containing a movable carriage on which the blade is mounted to provide very accurate straightness of the travel of the blade along the mirror.

Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method of fabricating tank wrap of desired thickness having fibers oriented generally in the thickness direction from lengths of insulation material having fibers oriented generally in the length direction. The method comprises several sequential steps. The first step is positioning the lengths of insulation material lengthwise along a first movable track conveyor, such that the fibers are oriented generally parallel to the direction of conveyance as the lengths progress downstream in a longitudinal direction along the conveyor. Second step is severing the insulation material completely across the length, at intervals equal to the desired thickness of the tank wrap to be fabricated. Next the cut lengths of insulation material are positioned lengthwise across a second movable track conveyor such that the fibers are now oriented generally perpendicular to the direction of conveyance, and in an abutting relationship.

Thus, the paper pile placed on the bed is held vertically in relation to the bed by the paper holding plate so that it is cut without any slippage. This slippage is also prevented even after the cutting operation.

Abstract: An ultrasonic cutting system for stock material temporarily bonds the stock material to an anvil incorporated in a processing table and cuts the stock material at a low angle with an ultrasonic cutting tool. The ultrasonic cutting tool is mounted on a carriage assembly which traverses the width of the stock material. The ultrasonic cutting tool includes a cutting blade mechanically coupled thereto. The cutting blade resonates in response to ultrasonic energy travelling axially therealong. As the carriage assembly moves across the stock material, the stock material is first adhesively bonded or secured to the anvil by at least two rollers. The rollers are mounted on the carriage assembly at a position slightly ahead of the cutting blade. The rollers apply pressure in a downward direction on the stock material to temporarily bond the material to the anvil and to prevent it from moving or vibrating during the cutting process.
