  • Patent number: 4614143
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for severing connector sticks into separate connector modules. A stick is formed by arranging individual connector housings in a serial row, and joining the connectors by a pair of L-shaped carriers. The carriers are arranged to overlie an outside corner of each housing, with one leg of the L-overlying a sidewall, and the other leg of the L-overlying the bottom wall. A tool bit is provided with first and second cutting surfaces, which sever respective legs of the carrier. The tool bit is configured to be received between individual connector housings, to provide alignment with the legs of the carrier member. The tool bit is arranged to sever a substantial portion of one carrier leg, and to thereafter sever both carrier leg portions.A method for severing the connector stick is also disclosed. According to the method, a substantial portion of the first carrier member is severed first, and the first and second carrier legs are thereafter simultaneously severed.

  • Patent number: 4276795
Abstract: A number of pairs of frozen fish slabs are arranged vertically in an equal number of laterally spaced vertical tubes or chutes constituting a magazine, each tube or chute having a partition dividing it into two open-ended compartments with a slab being slidably contained in each compartment. A cutter assembly comprising a blade carrier and a vertically adjustable table move as a unit at an acute angle beneath the magazine. The carrier has fixedly mounted at another acute angle thereon a plurality of flat blades equal in number to the number of tubes or chutes, each blade having a knife edge extending along opposite sides thereof so that when the cutter assembly is advanced in one direction the lower end of one of the slabs of each pair of slabs is severed and when retracted the lower end of the other of the slabs of each pair is severed to form individual fish sticks having a thickness determined by the distance the table is spaced below the plane in which the blades move.

  • Patent number: 4275628
Abstract: A device is disclosed for severing both a needle portion and an end nub portion of a syringe. The device includes a receptacle for the cutoff portions and a removable cover. A horizontally movable severing means may be suspended from the undersurface of the cover. Mounted on the cover is a handle which is mechanically linked to the severing means. Actuation or movement of the handle thereby causes horizontal movement of the severing means. By resting the syringe in a shoulder portion of the cover, the needle and nub portions of the syringe extend downward through an opening and are in line with the severing means. Therefore, when the severing means is moved in a horizontal direction, it will necessarily cut off the needle and nub portions.

  • Patent number: 4228709
Abstract: A tool assembly for use with a prime mover, such as a bench press, to prepare a flat cable for its termination in a mass termination connector. The assembly includes upper and lower supports, at least one of which is adapted for attachment to the prime mover, for reciprocal movement relative to one another. The assembly further includes punch means carried by one of the supports, cutter means carried by one of the supports and selectively operable stop means for limiting relative movement of the supports. The punch means forms a series of windows in the cable insulation between adjacent conductors of the flat cable, the windows being aligned in a row extending transversely of the longitudinal direction of the cable. The cutter means severs the conductor of the flat cable adjacent the windows. The punch means extends further toward the support which does not carry the punch means than the cutter means extends toward the support which does not carry the cutter means.

No. 3,608,117 wherein one strip is formed with studs longitudinally spaced at intervals and a second strip apertured and counterbored at the same intervals is used to bind sheets apertured at the same intervals at locations spaced inward from one marginal edge is described. A pressure bar is first manually moved to operative position and a handle compresses the strips together by exerting a controlled force on the pressure bar. The handle then initiates movement of a support for a knife consisting of a length of metallic ribbon material having spaced horizontal stretches in horizontal alignment with excess stud lengths of the first strip projecting through the second strip, the ribbon being under tension to hold such stretches taut. As the support moves toward the studs a current is passed through the ribbon, heating it so that the ribbon functions to cut off the excess stud length slightly below the second strip.
