Including Means To Permit Arcuate In-feed Motion Patents (Class 83/796)
  • Patent number: 4296661
Abstract: A feed control for a horizontal bandsaw machine has a hydraulic motor assembly which includes a piston dividing a hydraulic cylinder into upper and lower chambers. The cylinder is pivotally secured to the base of the machine, and the piston is pivotally secured to the saw head of the machine by an elongated piston rod. Hydraulic fluid is simultaneously introduced into one end of the motor assembly and withdrawn from the other end to positively regulate the position of the piston within the cylinder. A first pressure control device regulates the hydraulic pressure in the upper chamber of the motor assembly, and a second pressure control device regulates the hydraulic pressure in the lower chamber of the motor assembly. By regulating the pressure differential between the upper and the lower chambers, the rate of movement of the piston, and thus of the saw head, can be precisely regulated and thus optimized to insure cutting accuracy and minimize wear on the saw blade.

  • Patent number: 4269098
Abstract: A portable band saw comprising a base having upstanding supports integral therewith, a U-shaped frame is pivotally supported on one of the upstanding supports, said frame has a pair of spaced apart pulley wheels rotatably attached thereto. A saw blade extends between the pulley wheels and is rotatable thereabout, and guide means is utilized whereby the saw blade extends therethrough and is guided and supported thereby. A motor, having a drive shaft, is attached to the U-shaped frame, said drive shaft is connected to one of the pulley wheels thereby rotating same and the saw blade which extends thereabout upon starting of the motor. A pivotable saw table having an arcuate slot therein is utilized to advance work to be cut toward the rotating saw blade. The U-shaped frame together with the pulley wheels, saw blade, saw blade guide and motor is removable as a unit from the outstanding support and usable in a fashion similar to other band saws.

  • Patent number: 4258600
Abstract: A variable utility chain saw apparatus which includes a mounting frame, a mounting plate removably carried in the mounting frame and a portable chain saw secured to one side of the mounting plate and including a saw blade guide plate which projects through a slot in the mounting plate and supports and guides a flexible saw blade. A chain saw guard subassembly is pivotally connected to the mounting plate to protectively shield the saw blade without interfering with the sawing function of the blade. A supporting assembly adapted for securement to a cylindrical structure is detachably fastened to a support flange which is secured to, and projects from, the mounting frame. The supporting assembly can take several forms to facilitate usage of the saw apparatus for accomplishing several precision sawing functions in the field or at a workbench, all in addition to the customary manual usages of a conventional portable chain saw.

  • Patent number: 4241630
Abstract: A cutting machine for subdividing material lengths comprises a roller table establishing a transport path along which the material is directed to a cutting zone. A cutting head assembly has a cutting blade for cutting material located at the cutting zone. A front vise assembly is fixed adjacent to the cutting zone with first and second jaws arranged in opposed mutually spaced relationship on opposite sides of the transport path. A first jaw operating mechanism is provided for adjusting the spacing of the first and second jaws between an open position permitting movement therebetween of the material and a closed position clamping the material therebetween. A rear vise assembly is mounted on a carriage underlying the roller table. The carriage is movable in opposite directions parallel to the transport path. The rear vise assembly has third and fourth jaws also arranged in opposed mutually spaced relationship on opposite sides of the transport path.

  • Patent number: 4215612
Abstract: A chain saw is movably mounted on a frame for enabling the chain saw blade to move in a substantially straight-line path relative to the frame. The frame includes a bed for supporting a length of wood within the straight-line path of the saw blade. The saw blade is biased toward one side of the length of wood and a foot treadle is connected to the saw for overcoming the bias and moving the saw blade along the straight-line path to the other side of the length of wood.

  • Patent number: 4210049
Abstract: A foldable, hollow tubular frame, having a pair of elongated,spaced-apart legs, supports an elongated shaft rotatable on a horizontal axis at about shoulder level, with a conventional motor driven chain saw removably affixed to the shaft outside one end of the frame in cantilever position. An elongated trough extends horizontally of the frame at about waist level and the lower portion of the frame is anchored, or weighted, to avoid tipping. A control lever handle extends from the shaft alongside the saw, within the frame, so that the operator is on the chain side but out of the chain plane.

  • Patent number: 4179961
Abstract: A band saw having a generally vertically oriented saw blade carrying frame mounted to a movable carriage is disclosed. The carriage is mounted in a horizontally extending guideway in the saw base by an arm which is cantilevered from the back side of the vertical saw frame for support and guided motion of the saw from a relatively debris free portion of the saw base. Additionally, the band saw includes a work piece supporting bar feed table having a movable vise which is stabilized against backward tilting and a roller support assembly constructed so as to accommodate load concentrations from heavy, bent bar stock. Finally, an improved band saw blade guiding assembly is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4123957
Abstract: Support apparatus for supporting logs, boards and other work pieces to be cut either transversely or lengthwise, as well as for supporting a chain saw by its blade for performing the cutting. A support platform includes a top surface, preferably inclined downwardly toward an operator position, and a restraining rail to hold the work pieces in position for cutting. A spring-biased, rotatable axle mounts the chain saw by the free end of its blade for pivotal movement along one side of the platform to transversely cut work pieces. Alternately, a rigid saw support holds a chain saw vertically upright with its blade plane parallel to the direction of elongation of the work pieces for rip cutting. An outwardly extending, side support, opposite the saw support, movably mounts a second platform for additional support and movement of long logs, boards or other work pieces.
