  • Patent number: 6230602
Abstract: A resaw includes a frame having at least one head. The head includes a horizontal mounting beam with four wheels operatively mounted to the mounting beam. The wheels comprise an inner pair of wheels and an outer pair of wheels. The centers of the inner wheels are vertically offset from the center of the outer wheels. • Patent number: 5660095
Abstract: An apparatus for slitting a stack of folded corrugated paperboard boxes utilizes a thin slitting blade mounted for continuous movement through a slitting station and defining a vertical slitting plane. A stack supporting table straddles the slitting blade support a stack of boxes in a stand-by position above the blade. Adjustable upstream and downstream squaring devices are operative to square and center the stack in the cutting plane and a vertically reciprocable ram operates to move the stack and the supporting table downwardly past the blade against a table biasing force to slit the stack into two half-size stacks. The squaring device is operable to re-square the slit half-size stacks prior to conveyance out of the slitting station. The slitting run of the continuous blade operates in a rigid blade holder which is adjustable to compensate for blade wear and to maintain the cutting edge of the blade in a fixed plane.

  • Patent number: 5272946
Abstract: A safety control system for power operated equipment which ensures operator safety by immediately disconnecting the power drive from a power driven rotating member, such as a toothed feed shaft of a meat skinning machine or a moving blade of a band saw, and then positively stops and then reverses the direction of movement of the rotating member, upon a metal conductive glove worn by the operator, contacting the blade or toothed shaft. The operator's glove is electrically connected to a safety mechanism and upon the glove completing a circuit upon contact with the rotating member or equipment immediately disconnects the power drive from the rotating member by actuating a clutch or tensioning cylinder. A trigger mechanism then is actuated and permits a positive stopping element to engage and stop the moving element.

  • Patent number: 5237897
Abstract: The invention provides a bandmill having an endless loop of bandsaw blade which is automatically strained to a desired tension, and automatically driven at an accurate location or tracking position. The bandmill runs on a pair of spaced co-planar wheels, which are forced longitudinally apart to apply strain to the bandsaw. Actual saw strain is automatically detected by a force transducer within the strain mechanism, and the actual saw strain is automatically compared electronically with a desired saw strain. A servo-controller automatically adjusts distance between the wheels to vary force therebetween so that actual saw strain is varied to approach the desired saw strain. Also, actual tracking of the saw blade relative to the wheels is automatically sensed by sensors located adjacent the edge of the saw blade.

  • Patent number: 5176055
Abstract: A bandmill has first and second wheels and an endless saw blade trained about the wheels. The wheels are mounted to rotate about respective axes which lie in a common plane, but the first wheel is adjustable in position relative to the second wheel with respect to both its distance from the second wheel and its orientation relative to the second wheel. A tensioning mechanism is effective to force the first wheel away from the second wheel, while maintaining the axes of rotation of the two wheels substantially parallel, in response to a signal which is provided by a load cell and represents the tension in the saw blade. A wheel tilt mechanism is effective to adjust the angular position of the first wheel relative to the second wheel in response to a signal indicating the path followed by the saw blade, for maintaining the blade on a proper path.

The one pulley is permanently biased away from the other pulley by a relatively weak spring whose bias can be overcome by hand to facilitate the removal of a blade or the application of a fresh blade. In addition, the one pulley is normally biased away from the other pulley with a pronounced force by a package of dished springs whose bias upon the one pulley can be interrupted by a single-acting cylinder and piston unit whose piston is installed between the dished springs and a reciprocable carriage for the one pulley. • Patent number: 4094218
Abstract: A closed hydraulic system for band saws transmits manually actuated control of the saw blade tension, provides for easy and remote reading of blade tension, instantly stops rotation of the upper saw blade wheel in case of blade breakage, shuts off the motor drive when blade breakage occurs, and prevents restarting of the motor until a new blade is installed and tension is applied thereto. The upper idler blade band wheel is equipped with a spring loaded brake held in a non-braking position by hydraulic fluid which is pressurized from a manually actuated crank which shifts the upper wheel to apply tension to the saw blade band and when the band breaks to release the tension, the fluid pressure drops sufficiently to allow the springs to actuate the brake for stopping the wheel. At the same time, a fluid pressure actuated switch in the electric circuit for the driving motor is opened to prevent restarting of the motor until tension is once again applied to a new saw band.
