  • Patent number: 8245616
Abstract: A rotating blade guide assembly for use with a sawing machine includes a blade guide carrier and means for rotating the blade guide carrier from a first position to a second position. The first position would be that blade orientation when the blade is initially placed about a pair of band wheels. The second position would be the blade orientation when the blade is rotated about 90° to a cutting position. In this way, the orientation of the sawing machine blade is changed when the blade guide carrier is rotated from the first position to the second position. The rotating blade guide assembly further provides means for securing the blade guide carrier in the second position so as to prevent rotation of the blade guide carrier during use of the sawing machine.

Abstract: A guiding system for large circular saws wherein the guiding pads are positioned according to a typical angular wavelength of a circumferential vibration wave of the saw blade when rotating at an operating speed. In one embodiment, the frequency of a natural circumferential vibration wave is measured before positioning the guiding pads. Two sets of guiding pads are spaced apart a distance equal to about half the angular wavelength of such natural vibration wave. This distance corresponds to an angular distance between two successive opposite peaks or crests of a sinusoidal wave in the saw blade. The consequence of two successive opposite peaks entering the guiding pads at the same time has the effect of dampening the vibration very quickly, by acting upon both sides of the blade simultaneously to reduce the amp amplitude of the wave, while maintaining balanced axial impact on the saw.

Abstract: The sheet cutting die press includes a handle fixed to a cylindrical shaft, the longitudinal axes of which is off-set from the longitudinal axes of stub axles at either end of the shaft. Thus, as the handle is moved causing the shaft to rotate, it applies pressure through a pair of bearings to a pair of pillow blocks which in turn rests on the top surface of a top platen. A cover over the cylindrical shaft is fixed to the pillow blocks so that, as the handle is moved to a position to retract the platen, the pillow blocks are lifted by the cover.

  • Patent number: 5239758
Abstract: A sawing device is attachable to an electric hand drill. The hand drill can be operated by either alternating current or direct current, using a battery. The battery operated drill eliminates the need for electrical cords, so it can be used anywhere. The saw bar may be made of material such as plastic that requires no lubricating oil, is lighter and less abrasive than conventional metal saw bars. There is also a non-metallic insert that will attach to a metal saw bar. This insert may go into the conventional metal saw bars with the same advantages as above. The hand drill rotation is transferred through a connecting shaft to the sprocket that drives the cutting chain, which travels on a chain bar with a single sprocket.

  • Patent number: 5174182
Abstract: A machine for feeding and cutting sheet material includes a housing and a framework pivoted on the housing to permit loading of sheet material into the machine. A feed roll is journalled in the housing. A cooperating pressure roll is journalled on the framework. A spring is adjustably carried on the framework for adjusting the pressure of the pressure roll toward the feed roll. A knife blade on the framework, and fixed to the framework cooperates with a movable knife blade in the housing for cutting predetermined lengths of sheet material. A cam follower bearing is provided in the housing to help guide movement of the knife blade in the housing. A spring adjustment is provided in the linkage connecting the cylinder driving the movable knife blade and the movable knife blade for varying the force of the movable knife blade against the cam roller bearing.

  • Patent number: 4913021
Abstract: A high-precision punch and die apparatus having a stationary frame; a punch movable relative to the frame, the punch including integral pneumostatic bearing surfaces and at least one cutting edge; and a die adjustably mounted to the frame to receive the punch therethrough, the die including at least one cutting edge coactable with the cutting edge(s) on the punch. A pair of pneumostatic bearings are provided to constrain and guide movement of the punch through the die, each bearing having a segmented journal that includes a plurality of journal segments formed with a pneumostatic bearing surface, the journal segments being adjustably mounted, relative to the frame, to receive the punch therebetween so that the bearing surface on each journal segment is in closely spaced relation to an opposing one of the bearing surfaces on the punch.

  • Patent number: 4913012
Abstract: A high-precision punch and die method wherein a pair of pneumostatic bearings are mounted on a rigid frame structure in registered spaced-apart relation to each other, each bearing having a plurality of journal segments provided with a pneumostatic bearing surface and adjustably mounted on the frame structure. A segmented die is mounted on the frame structure in registered spaced-apart relation to (and preferably between) the two bearings, the die having a plurality of die segments provided with a cutting edge and adjustably mounted on the frame structure. The bearing journal segments and the die segments are adjusted, by use of a mating set-up bar, to achieve required sizing and alignment of the bearings and die. A punch is then positioned in the bearings for guided movement through the die, the punch having an integral pneumostatic bearing surface closely facing each journal-segment bearing surface and a cutting edge adapted to coact with each die-segment cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 4823661
Abstract: A die assembly for mounting in a die press operates to punch a row of holes in a stack of paper sheets in response to a single press stroke. The die assembly comprises a stationary lower die block having a row of die holes therethrough, one or more lubricated stationary guide plates each having a row of guide holes therethrough and located above and spaced from the die block by a separator plate so as to define a stack-receiving slot, a reciprocably movable punch retainer assembly located above the guide plate and a row of elongated, downwardly-depending punches connected at their head ends to the punch retainer assembly which extend through and slidably engage the guide holes. When the press closes, the cutting ends of the punches move through the stack-receiving slot and through a stack of sheets therein into sliding engagement with the die holes. When the press opens, the punches are withdrawn clear of the stack-receiving slot.

  • Patent number: 4685366
Abstract: Lightweight, portable apparatus for cutting a wide range of materials available in sheet form, such as matboard, glass, light plastic, and leather. The invention lies in the unification of its cutting tool guide tract with the means of fixing in place the material to be cut. Four pegs are attached to the base of the apparatus for aligning the sheet to be cut. Equally important is the means by which it is automatically held in place during the cutting operation. Pieces of foam rubber or the like are inlaid in the base of the apparatus so that when the operator is pressing down on the cutting tool the resultant force normal to the supporting surface is sufficient to prevent lateral motion of the apparatus. Thus, no bulky and awkward clamping devices need to be used to affix the cutter to its supporting table.
