  • Patent number: 4838328
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for thinning a forest by means of a wheeled harvester and a wheeled forwarder comprising a driver's cab and a load carrier located behind the cab. The harvester (3) is caused to advance in existing forest stands (1) in routes optimally selectable with regard to the characteristics of the stand, between main haul roads or strip roads close to each other, and is parked on suitable places along the routes for felling trees on each parking place. The trees are limbed and placed underneath the harvester between the wheels thereof, and the forwarder (4) is caused to follow the harvester in the same route as this and take care of the tree stems placed underneath the harvester and left behind it. This is achieved in that the felled trees lying in front of the forwarder are lifted by it and moved over and rearwards past the cab of the forwarder to the load carrier situated behind the cab.

  • Patent number: 4792190
Abstract: There is disclosed a machine including a powered truck-like vehicle having a support base and an apparatus mounted on the base for cutting a drive-in passage across a curbstone, a sidewalk or the like. The apparatus comprises two spaced parallel booms mounted at one end on the base and rail-structure-holding heads connected to the booms and displaceable along them. A rail structure including an elongated upper suspension member, having a non-circular cross section, is mounted on the heads by extension of the suspension member through rotary pillow blocks of the heads of which the cylinders have like non-circular bores. A linkage powered mechanism, interconnecting the heads and the suspension member, allows oscillation of the latter about its longitudinal axis and consequently oscillation of the rail structure of which it is a part. A power jack allows shifting of the rail structure laterally with respect to the booms.

  • Patent number: 4771670
Abstract: A method and apparatus for slicing, lifting and carrying round bales or the like. The method for slicing the bale consists of making a radial cut through the length of the bale. The radial cut causes the circumferentially wrapped bale fibers to be cut which causes bale to open up. A partial radial cut, leaving the outer bale fibers uncut, can be made leaving bale substantially in a cylindrical shape to facilitate easy transport with a forklift like carrier. The apparatus consists of a mast assembly mounted to raiseable three point hitch of an agricultural tractor or the like. A pair of parallel forks are directly attached to mast and engage the curved sides of bale so as to lift and support bale for easy transport. A hydraulically activated knife assembly is attached to mast and forks. The knife has serrated teeth which cut through bale when knife reciprocates. A bumper or work guide when attached to the end of forks holds bale during cutting process.

  • Patent number: 4682522
Abstract: An apparatus for segmenting scrap tires having a compression conveyor and three rotary shears that make perpendicular cuts into the tire. The compression conveyor centers the tire and provides forces onto the treaded periphery to buckle the tire. The compression feeds the tire to a first rotary shear having overlapping counterrotating circular shears that make at least one cut about the circumferential periphery of the tire to produce annular tire segments. The annular tire segments fall by gravity into a conveyor having a pair of auger flights which position the segments for pickup by a conveyor chain. The conveyor chain includes a number of hooks which grasp the inner circumference of the annular tire segments, whereupon they are centered for entry into a second and third rotary shear.

The apparatus may be drawn by a wheeled or tracked prime mover. It comprises an outwardly biasable primary arm mounted on a supporting frame. The distal end of this arm bears a guide means that serves to assist in moving it past those trees that are not to be removed in a manner that prevents injury to the tree. The guide means also acts as a guard for a tree-severing means. When a tree is to be removed the severing means is moved forward in the direction of travel so that it contacts the tree before the guide means. Otherwise, the severing means is prevented from contacting the tree by the guide means. The severing means may be manually deployed or it can be controlled by a simple logic system into which travel speed and take/leave decisions are made. The device is normally used in plantations in which trees have been planted in approximate rows.

Abstract: A thin, vertically oriented rectangular cutting blade having opposed vertical cutting edges and being reciprocated horizontally towards and away from opposite vertical stops, permits an end of a log to be inserted between given blade edges and stops during strokes in opposite directions, to sever the log into firewood length. Oppositely facing splitting wedges mounted to the blade just behind the cutting edges have their tapered splitting edges facing in the same direction as the blade edges for splitting the partially severed firewood length pieces into multiple sections prior to complete severance thereof from the log proper.

Abstract: A portable workstand for power tools and the like which is convertible from a tool utilization condition to a portable condition wherein a wheel and a pair of handles extend therefrom for wheelbarrow-like portability. The handles are connected to the wheel in an arrangement such that pivotal movement of the handles from unextended and depending positions to their extended positions moves the wheel from a retracted position within a cavity in the stand to its extended position. A hand brake for the wheel is provided and provision is also made for releasably retaining the handles in their extended positions against inadvertent movement therefrom.
