Silencers Patents (Class 89/14.4)
  • Patent number: 8820473
Abstract: A gas dispersion nozzle for a gun silencer having a nozzle portion with a front end and a rear end and walls enclosing a hollow interior therein. The rear end of the nozzle portion is attached to the gun silencer and the nozzle portion extends into the interior of the gun silencer. The rear end also attaches to a firearm. The walls have channels which direct flow of propellant gases out of the hollow interior and into the interior of the gun silencer at an angle to a path along which the projectile passes when the firearm is discharged. The channels cause the flow of propellant gases to become turbulent or rotational or both and can cause the flow rate of said propellant gases to decrease. The gas dispersion nozzle reduces the report and/or flash produced by the discharge of a firearm.

  • Patent number: 8807272
Abstract: A sound suppressor for firearms (such as hand guns and rifles) has a tubular body with a first end cap adjacent the barrel of the firearm, and a 5 second end cap with exhaust vents for the gases. A plurality of baffles, each having a passage for the bullet, are provided in the body intermediate the first-and-second end caps. Each baffle has a plurality of vents in the outer portion, the vents forming at least one path for the flow of the major portion of the gases through the suppressor body. By angularly offsetting the vents of adjacent baffles, the gas path(s) are made tortuous to further slow the gas flow. The baffle adjacent the first end cap can be a deflecting baffle, where the vents deflect the gases outwardly towards the body. The body may be connected to the barrel of the firearm by screw-threads or a bayonet coupling; and a flash eliminator may be connected to the body adjacent the second end cap.

Abstract: A firearm noise and recoil suppressor having a plurality of ported channels in fluid contact with the barrel to redirect some of the firing gasses for the purpose of distributing the firing propellant gasses out the discharge end of the firearm. The channels redirect part of the propellent gasses to exit the barrel at times other than when the main projectile discharge occurs thus reducing peak pressure, thus reducing noise and recoil. The channels are contained within the tubular device, being in fluid communication with the projectile passageway through ports that regulate the amount of gas flow. The channels direct gasses to exit the device through apertures at the projectile exit end of the device in at an angle of between parallel to the projectile to up to perpendicularly.

  • Patent number: 8499676
Abstract: A coupling system attaches a device such as a blank adaptor or a sound suppressor to the flash hider of a firearm. The device is slid over the flash hider until a set of flat surfaces on it are aligned with a set of holes in the device. Camming latches are held in the holes in the device. The collar carried by the device is then threadably advanced to a locking position with respect to the device where it presses the camming latches into secure engagement with the flat surfaces on the flash hider. Unthreading the collar to the unlocked position allows the camming latches to be moved radially when the device is to be removed or rotated. A spring lock prevents the collar from rotating during use, particularly during firing of the firearm but may be released to rotate the collar between locked and unlocked positions.

  • Patent number: 8322266
Abstract: A Controlled Unaided Surge and Purge (CUSPS) suppressor for firearms uses the blast and plume characteristics inherent to the ballistic discharge process to develop a new two-step controlled surge and purge system centered around advanced mixer-ejector concepts. The blast surge noise is reduced by controlling the flow expansion, and the flash effects are reduced by controlling inflow and outflow gas purges. In the preferred embodiment, suppressor vent holes are convergently contoured to better reduce the blast surge. Preferably a two-stage supersonic mixer/ejector system, in combination with adjacent vent holes in the suppressor housing and a divergent entrance nozzle, is used to control or eliminate the external Mach disk, while rapidly mixing and diluting the propellant with purged gases. A diffuser downstream of the mixer/ejector system further increases ejector performance and pumping. The pumped gases are used to self-clean and cool the CUSPS suppressor.

Abstract: A firearm includes a noise suppressor comprising ports in the barrel opening into an annulus provided between a barrel and a sleeve extending from adjacent the muzzle to adjacent the receiver. In the annulus are a series of baffles. The most upstream port opens upstream of the most upstream baffle and downstream ports open between adjacent baffles. In some embodiments, the upstream ports are considerably larger than the downstream ports. Propulsion gases escape from the barrel into the annulus before the projectile clears the muzzle. Sabot rounds or shotgun rounds can be safely fired in the weapon because the sabot carrier or shot cup don't begin to expand until it is past the muzzle end so it cannot damage the noise suppressor.

Abstract: The devices and assemblies of the invention allow the design and use of suppressors with at least two modes of operation and the suppressor can be reset significantly faster and more simply from a locked position into an unlocked position. The suppressors of the invention comprise a mounting ring and a momentum part or assembly that can be shifted axially, or along the axis of the barrel of the weapon. A pressure spring is positioned between it and a column sleeve of the silencer, which on the one hand presses the momentum part against a projection of the column sleeve and on the other hand against the index disk. Interlocking cams are positioned on the momentum part, which are blocked in a first position of the mounting ring, and in a second position of the mounting ring they can be shifted so that the momentum part is unlocked and can move axially in response to firing.
