  • Patent number: 4898077
Abstract: A swash plate type hydraulic pumping assembly (10) including a plurality of pistons (28) axially reciprocated in individual chambers (22) of a rotor (20). Each piston (28) includes a hollowed central cavity (30) supporting a compression spring (54) which urges the piston (28) out of the chamber (22) and toward a camming surface (64) of the swash plate (60). A tube (42) is disposed in the chamber (22) adjacent a hydraulic fluid exhaust port (24) and forms the only flow route for fluid entering or exiting the chamber (22). A top surface (34) in the cavity (30) of the piston (28) is spaced from the exhaust port (24) and collects gas inclusions trapped in the fluid during operation. When the piston (28) is moved in the chamber (22) to a fully compressed position, the top spaced surface (34) is very close to the tube (42) allowing the trapped gas inclusions to be swept away from the top spaced surface (34) and out of the pump assembly (10).

  • Patent number: 4885980
Abstract: A bearing arrangement particularly useful for supporting the driveshaft of a thermal engine in which the driveshaft is acted upon by a rotating bending load. Since a rotating bending load of such thermal engines generates driveshaft bending deflections which rotate with the driveshaft, the bearings supporting the driveshaft must be capable of accommodating such deflection. Conventional rolling element type bearings can accommodate driveshaft deflection or wobble but have limited operational lifespans. In accordance with this invention, a driveshaft bearing arrangement is provided utilizing plane bearings having spherical surfaces which restrain radial loads while accommodating driveshaft wobble. In one embodiment, the spherical bearing includes a ring member affixed to the driveshaft having a spherical outer surface which closely conforms to a concave bearing surface.

The housing supports therein a drive shaft 11, a retainer 12, and a cylinder block 13 which have an integral structure. A recess is formed at a substantially central location of the end surface of the cylinder block 13 that is on the side of an open end of the housing, and a cover 15 closing the open end of the housing has a protruding portion 15A which extends through a port plate 23 to be engaged with the recess of the cylinder block through a bearing 17. A plurality of pistons are disposed in the cylinder block and are kept in tight engagement with a swash plate fixed to the closed end portion of the housing at a constant tilt angle. The device acts as either a swash plate type axial piston pump or motor of this type as the drive shaft rotates.

Abstract: A hydraulic radial piston machine with steplessly adjustable volumetric displacement and piston stroke has a bank of pistons with axes in a common plane transverse to the shaft and machine axes. A radially displaceable supporting member pivotably connected to a shaft longitudinal portion turnable from the machine longitudinal axis supports the pistons. The longitudinal portion is pivotably connected at one end to a further longitudinal shaft portion. The second end connects to a turning link transmission which rotates. Rotation of the first--mentioned longitudinal shaft portion causes the supporting member to travel a circular path around the machine axis. A force--loaded translating operating displacing member steplessly varies the diameter of this circle to steplessly adjust piston stroke.

Abstract: An hydraulic rotation damper comprises a bearing housing with inner stator vanes and a rotor with rotor vanes, the rotor being arranged on a carrier arm journal which is mounted in bearings in the bearing housing with the stator vanes and the rotor vanes forming working chambers. At least one damping valve is provided for transferring working medium from pressure-loaded working chambers into unloaded working chambers. Further, the working chambers are closed at both ends by end walls containing valve-controlled passages leading into annular gaps which are separated by the end walls from the working chambers. This permits pressure medium at a pressure corresponding to the working pressure in the respective working chambers to be fed to the annular gaps where the pressure medium applies pressure to the outer surfaces of the end walls of the working chambers to prevent axial displacement of those walls.
