  • Patent number: 6637315
Abstract: A welded cylinder is provided wherein a seal (such as an O-ring seal or a cured anaerobic sealant) is disposed between the tube of a cylinder and its welded end plug. The seal is spaced away from the circumferential weld that joins the end plug to the cylinder to reduce the hoop stress in the tube adjacent the weld, thereby reducing the tensile stress at the weld joint.

  • Patent number: 6557455
Abstract: The present invention finds applicability in barrel assemblies defining a ring shaped cavity that is to be fluidly sealed from a central bore. Current barrel assemblies, such as those used in hydraulic pumps, are made from castings. This can be undesirable due to long production time and difficulty in producing consistent components. The present invention is directed to overcoming one or more of these problems by disclosing a barrel assembly and a method for making the same wherein the barrel and the plug are manufactured from the same material, or from materials having similar coefficients of thermal expansion. Thus, upon pump operation and optional heat treatment of the assembled barrel assembly, both the barrel and the plug will expand in a similar manner. The present invention finds application in axial piston pumps, especially for high pressure hydraulic systems, and other two piece components having a cavity requiring a seal.

Abstract: A cylinder minimizes the friction between an inner peripheral surface of a cylinder bore and a piston by substantially providing no plating on a portion of the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder bore where a cross sectional configuration of the inner periphery of the cylinder bore is prone to deform and which does not interfere with a predetermined operation performed in cooperation with a piston that reciprocates in slidable contact with the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder bore.

Abstract: A hydraulically operated central release unit for a motor vehicle clutch is designed as a slave cylinder that is arranged inside a clutch housing. The central release unit includes a housing in which a ring piston is movably guided. The ring piston has a groove ring seal with lips sealingly contacting the sealing tracks. To reduce the wear on the sealing lips and to avoid squeaking noises of the groove ring seal, the surfaces of the sealing tracks are provided with micro cavities.

Abstract: A variable-displacement inclined plate compressor includes a crank chamber defined by a cylinder block and a front housing connected to the cylinder block. The cylinder block has cylinder bores, each opening toward the crank chamber. A rounded edge of each cylinder bore extends circumferentially around the cylinder bore at a crank chamber-side axial end of the cylinder bore. By the formation of the rounded edge of the cylinder bore, the sliding resistance of the piston may decrease. The decreased sliding resistance may prevent the piston coating from being scratched. Further, the decreased sliding resistance may decrease the load on the compressor, thereby achieving a smooth control of the inclination angle of the inclined plate.

Abstract: An air compressor includes a housing having a tube extended from the top and having a passage communicating the housing with the tube and having a tapered surface. A piston is slidably received in the chamber of the housing and is forced to move along the housing in a reciprocating action and to force the air out through the tube via the passage. The provision of the tapered surface allows the piston to smoothly move in the housing. A stop is adjustably spring-biased to block the passage. The piston has a spring blade to block an aperture to control the air into the housing.

  • Patent number: 6168398
Abstract: A piston pump comprising at least one working space, which is surrounded by a cylinder and which is adapted to be varied by a piston arranged in said cylinder, and at least one inlet valve as well as at least one outlet valve, said valves being lifting valves and being adapted to be controlled and driven by a control and drive means. In order to provide a piston pump which can be cleaned more easily and which includes the smallest possible number of dead spots, a first teaching according to the present invention suggests that, when closed, the inlet valve should be located nearer to the working space than when it is open. Alternatively, the underlying technical problem is solved according to a second solution of the present invention by the feature that the valve surface of the inlet and/or outlet valve(s) facing the working space merges without any steps with the inner surface of said working space at the closed position of the valve or of each valve.
