    Abstract: A power hand drill is clamped in the carriage which is slideably mounted on the vertical column. The lever arm is moved about a fixed pivot to control movement of the carriage. The lever arm is tubular and has a push rod extending from the handle into the interior of the housing to actuate a switch which, when closed, connects the power supply cord to a receptacle into which the drill power cord is plugged. The drill power switch is tied in the closed position. Therefore the user can control drill feed and operation with one hand.

    Abstract: The telescope of the level-transit includes two mirrors at 45.degree. to the light path. A first mirror is fixed in the telescope housing by screws which thread into the mirror support to pull it tight against a datum surface established by a cover. The other mirror is mounted for pendulating action to automatically compensate the instrument for deviation from level within the design range. When the instrument is used as a transit the telescope is free to tilt up and down to measure vertical angles. At that time the pendulum is locked in center position. When the instrument is used as a level, the telescope is locked against elevation or depression. The locking mechanism actuates a device which frees the pendulum for operation to automatically compensate the level. The bottom of the pendulum weight has an inverted conical member fixed therein. The conical portion passes through an elongated hole in a leaf spring fixed in the telescope to flex about an axis transverse the mirror pivot axis.

    Abstract: The drill stand has a vertical column and a clamp moveably mounted on the column. A carriage adapted to support a drill is moveably mounted on the column for movement with and with respect to the clamp. A link is pivoted on the clamp and has two pivot locations. A lever arm is pivotally connected to the carriage and has two roller pivots selectively engageable with either of the pivot locations to change the force multiplication and travel distance as the arm is pivoted about the selected pivot location. Each pivot location is at the end of a track having one portion on a curve centered on the link connection to the clamp and another portion on an arc centered on the pivot location associated with the other of the tracks. Each roller engages one of the tracks. The pivot locations are closer together than are the rollers so only one roller can be in a pivot location at one time.

    Abstract: The power tool has a magnetic base with superposed permanent magnet assemblies. The upper assembly can be moved relative to the lower assembly to subtract from or reinforce the magnetic field. The upper assembly is somewhat shorter than the lower assembly so even when the upper assembly is positioned to shunt to subtract from the flux of the lower assembly there will be some magnetic flux attracting the base to a ferromagnetic material. When the sensing probe is pushed into the base the electric motor can be switched on to rotate a spindle on which a rotary cutting tool is axially mounted. The tool feed is controlled by a handle which can be mounted on either side of the tool housing.

The drift pin mounted in the cross bore provides a handle for screwing the body into a tree or post. The body at said other end has a hexagonal exterior enabling use of a wrench to screw the device into the tree. When the device is mounted in a tree an archer can transfer the container of a "trailer" from his bow to the device, thus freeing the archer to do other things while waiting for his prey to die.

    Abstract: The stand for a portable power drill has a base supporting an upright column on which a clamp is mounted for slideable movement to a desired height where it is fixed. A carriage is slideably mounted on the column with a bushing on each side of the clamp. A spring biases the carriage upwardly. A power drill is clamped on the carriage and the carriage can be moved downwardly relative to the clamp against the bias of the spring to feed the drill bit into the work. A lock plate having an aperture slightly larger than the diameter of the column fits over the column and is spring biased to tilt on a fulcrum on the underside of the clamp. When tilted, the aperture edges engage ("and bite") the column to support the carriage and drill. The plate has a pad which is depressed against the spring bias to release the plate so the clamp and carriage can be raised or lowered.

The tubular tool shank is retained on the drive spindle by balls carried by a cage and moved into engagement with a groove in the tool shank by a cam surface on a release collar spring biased to move the balls to engage the tool.

A transverse slot originating closer to the one end of the body tangentially intersects the bore closer to the one end of the body. A screw is threaded into the hole from the one end and bears on elastic lines (or cords) and tends to push them into the hole. When used with a colostomy pouch the clamp holds the usual retaining bead tight against the pouch connector and plate flange.

    Abstract: The rear view mirror bracket support incorporates multiple detent positions. The inverted cup-like cover has opposed pairs of grooves inside the side walls of the cover. A moving bracket has one end fixed to the cover and carries the mirror. A molded spring member having arcuate, radially flexible, spring arms engageable with the grooves is connected to a fixed bracket through a retainer. The retainer and the spring have serrations which are engageable to prevent relative rotation between the spring and the retainer when a bolt passing through the cover and the spring member and the retainer is tightened. When the bolt is loosened the spring member can be moved relative to the retainer to set the initial operative detent position. Now the moving bracket can be moved to any one of a number of additional detented positions or can be moved to any intermediate position which will not be detented.

    Abstract: The bow string release has a sear pivotally mounted in a cylindrical body and includes a string retaining finger which projects across the string receiving notch when the sear is engaged by a pull pin biased to the sear engaging position. The pull pin is slidable in a guide sleeve assembly extending through the end wall of the body through a handle which carries a trigger through which the pull pin passes. The ends of the sleeve assembly are enlarged to capture the body and handle. The body is rotatable relative to the handle and the pull pin. When the trigger is actuated it rocks about a fulcrum (its point of engagement with a washer or with the handle) to push an enlarged head on the end of the pin to pull the pin to release the sear. In one embodiment, an adjusting screw moves the enlarged head relative to the thrust washer to partly pull the pin to adjust the trigger travel necessary to release the bow string.

    Abstract: The headframe supports tubular pipe guides in the shaft. Each guide comprises a multiplicity of pipes threaded one to another and extends below the normal range of conveyance travel in the shaft. Each guide is suspended from the headframe by a substantially solid bar depending from the headframe and threadably connected to the uppermost pipe. A bushing fixed in the shaft below the travel range has an associated pipe guide passing loosely therethrough to permit vertical and lateral movement of the pipe guide. A conveyance is suspended on wire rope from the headframe and is guided by the pipe guides. The conveyance has guide bushings slideably engaging each of the pipe guides. Weights are attached to the bottom of each of the pipe guides and the total weight added to each is not equal to that added to any other guide. This avoids having similar harmonics in the pipe guides.

    Abstract: The cylinder lock has a key guide which has a cylindrical extension fitting inside a cylindrical shell. A number of tumblers fit in the tumbler plug which is mounted inside the extension so the lock tab on each tumbler can project through a slot in the extension into one of two lock grooves inside the shell. The cam surface on the proper key will move the lock tabs out of the groove so the key guide and the plug and the tumblers can rotate in unison inside the shell. The tumbler plug engages a bolt driver which is journaled in and projects rearwardly from the shell. The projecting portion is threaded and has a squared portion on which a bolt is mounted and retained by a nut threaded on the threaded portion. The shell is threaded and also has opposed flats registering and lock relative to a bracket which enables mounting the lock on the rear of a door with an escutcheon plate on the front of the door.

    Abstract: The tree stand has a notch which receives a tree trunk and has a flexible steel band encircling and engaging the tree. The band is positioned at an angle extending upwardly and rearwardly from the platform. The band is supported by means at each side of the platform including front and rear legs pivoted on the platform and slideably interconnected. When the legs are raised from their storage position against the platform, they are automatically locked together when they reach their operative position. One leg carries a guide which receives the band. A cylindrical member fixed on the guide supports a plunger which is biased to engage holes in the band. A cam-type actuator bears against the cylindrical member and is moved relative to the plunger between a lock position (plunger engaging the band) and a retracted position (plunger withdrawn from the band). A lock screw can fix the actuator relative to the plunger to prevent accidental movement of the actuator to the released position.

    Abstract: A push-on/quick release locking arrangement is mounted on a socket wrench extension having a cylindrical body with a square drive end. An inclined transverse bore in the drive end intersects opposed flat faces of the drive end and lock balls are mounted in the bore for movement between a "lock" position and a "release" position. In the "lock" position one ball projects from the end of the bore nearest the end of the drive end to engage a cooperating cavity in the drive recess of a socket. In the "release" position the balls lie within the cross section of the drive end. There is an axial groove in the flat face intersected by the end of said bore further from the end of the drive end. A cylindrical grip sleeve is mounted for slideable movement on the cylindrical body of the extension. The end of said sleeve remote from the drive end is turned inwardly and a cylindrical slider is fixed in the other end of the sleeve. A spring is captured inside the sleeve between the inturned end and the slider.

    Abstract: An activity field is surfaced with a cushioned, resilient rubber mat over a hard undersurface. One area of the field is subject to participant impact potentially resulting in injury. That area is provided with a closed cell shock absorbing foam pad between the rubber mat and the hard undersurface to permit the mat to flex restrained by the foam pad to attenuate an impact. The rubber mat is bonded to the pad by a flexible adhesive and both the mat and the pad are bonded to said undersurface. The mat extends beyond the perimeter of the pad.
