Abstract: The present invention is a method of treating skin or hair conditions, such as acne, blemishes, breakouts, cellulite, oily skin, oily hair, oily scalp, or any combination thereof, that comprises topically applying an effective amount of perilla oil to the affected area of the skin or hair. The topical application of perilla oil inhibits PPAR upregulation in skin cells, particularly PPARalpha upregulation.
Abstract: Cosmetic compositions comprising an extract of Melicope hayesii and methods of using such compositions to impart anti-aging benefits to the skin are disclosed. These compositions are believed to have modulatory activity against at least one biochemical pathway implicated in skin aging.
Abstract: There is provided a cosmetic composition, preferably a cream, which continually provides a self-renewable textured surface appearance while in a container. The cosmetic composition has at least one volatile compound, preferably a fluorocarbon, such that the volatile compound expands resulting in expansion of the composition. The cosmetic composition has a viscosity from about 5,000 cps to about 2,500,000 cps.
Abstract: There is provided a topical lightening composition having a melanin synthesis-regulating agent and a vehicle. Also, there is provided a topical lightening composition having an extract of perilla leaf and a vehicle. In addition there is provided a topical lightening composition having a lightening agent selected from the group consisting of coconut water, palm water, palm nut milk, pecan nut milk, almond nut milk, cashew nut milk, walnut nut milk, concentrates of the foregoing, and any combinations thereof, along with a vehicle. The compositions and methods of the invention are effective to lighten skin, hair, lips, and/or nails.

Abstract: A drive screw having an axial bore is disposed within a tubular container. A cap for closing the container has mounted therefrom an applicator that is insertable in the bore of the drive screw. A first seal and a second seal, on the drive screw, form with the inner wall of the container and the outer wall of the drive screw an annular compartment for housing a cosmetic composition. A normally closed channel is provided between the compartment and the bore of the drive screw. A drive on the cap and a complementary drive on the drive screw cooperate with the first seal and the second seal to decrease the volume of the compartment in which the composition is housed each time the container is opened by removing the cap. A valve opens the channel in response to the decrease in volume in the compartment when the cap is removed so as to permit composition to flow through the channel into the bore of the drive screw to contact the applicator.

Abstract: A stable, chromatic water-in-silicone emulsion comprising: i) an aqueous phase containing a water-soluble polyol, a water-soluble polymer thickener, and water; and ii) a silicone phase containing an aromatic silicone, a silicone emulsifier and a silicone fluid carrier.
Abstract: There is provided a method of forming a segmented composition utilizing the thermal exchange properties of a first component that solidifies when cooled, and a second component that solidifies when heated. When an amount of the heat from the first component is transferred to the coolness of the second component, and vice versa, both the first and second components are provided with structural integrity, thus forming the segmented composition. There is also provided a method and an apparatus that can form a segmented cosmetic composition. The segmented cosmetic composition has at least two components. A first component is preferably a molten wax. A second component is preferably a smectite clay dispersion. One of the components fully surrounds, partially surrounds, or is adjacent to the other component.
Abstract: Couplers for hair coloring compositions for oxidative dyeing of hair are compounds of the formula (1):
wherein X is selected from halogen and R2SO4; R3 is selected from C1 to C2 alkyl or hydroxyethyl; R2 is selected from C1 to C22 alkyl and C1 to C22 mono and dihydroxyalkyl; and R is selected from of C1 to C16 alkyl, C1 to C10 hydroxyalkyl, C1 to C6 alkoxyalkyl and benzyl.
Abstract: Primary intermediates for hair coloring compositions for oxidative dyeing of hair are compounds of the formula (1):
wherein R1 and R2 are each independently selected from hydrogen atoms, a C1 to C5 alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group, or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a 5 or 6 member cyclic ring optionally containing one or more additional atoms selected from O, N or S atoms, and n is equal to 1 or 2, with the proviso that when n is equal to 2 only one of R1 and R2 may be hydrogen.
Abstract: Couplers for hair coloring compositions for oxidative dyeing of hair are compounds of formula (1):
wherein X is selected from of halogen and R5SO4 R3 is selected from C1 to C2 alkyl and hydroxyethyl; and R, R1, R2 and R5 are each independently selected from C1 to C22 alkyl or C1 to C22 mono or dihydroxyalkyl.
Abstract: Couplers for hair coloring compositions for oxidative dyeing of hair are compounds of the formula (1):
wherein Y is CH or N and Z is H, OCH3, NH2 and alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, with the proviso that when Y is N the 2,4-diaminophenoxy moieties are positioned at the 4 and 6 positions on the pyrimidine ring.
