wherein X is Cl, Br, I, or R3 S04; R is a C1 to C22 alkyl group or a C1 to C22 mono or dihydroxyalkyl group; R1 and R2 are each independently a C1 to C4 alkyl group; R3 is a C1 to C22 alkyl group or a C1 to C22 mono or dihydroxyalkyl group; R4 is a hydrogen atom, a C1 to C5 alkyl group or such an alkyl group substituted with one or more hydroxy or amino moieties; and R5 is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy group.
Abstract: Aqueous compositions containing about 0.5-10% of at least one salt of a fatty acid amide of an amino acid, and about 0.05-0.2% of a salt of an acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, or about 0.1-0.75% of a salt of acrylates copolymer, are clear, foamable and ultra-mild on skin. When dispensed by a pump sprayer the compositions afford a dense, uniform, stable foam which when spread on the skin gives an elegant cushioning foam pad effect between the hand and skin.

Abstract: There is provided a hair treatment composition for cold permanent hair waving. The composition has tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane and a reducing agent.
Abstract: Couplers for hair coloring compositions for oxidative dyeing of hair are compounds of the formula at least one coupler comprising a compound of the formula (1):
wherein R is selected from of C1 to C2 alkyl and hydroxyethyl, R1 and R2 are each independently selected from the group consisting of C1 to C5 alkyl, C3 to C6 cycloalkyl, C1 to C5 alkoxy, C1 to C5 hydroxyalkyl, C1 to C5 hydroxyalkoxy, or R1 and R2 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form a C3 to C6 cycloalkyl group.
Abstract: Oxidative hair dyeing systems are provided that are “root seeking”, i.e., which produce more intense initial coloration on new growth, less porous hair compared to the initial coloration produced in older, damaged, more porous hair. More equalized coloration along the shaft of hair can be obtained with the “root seeking” dyeing products.
Abstract: A long-term storage stable tretinoin and 4-hydroxyanisole composition contains low molecular weight polyethylene glycol, antioxidant, a chelating agent, lower alkanol and water. The chelating agent provides at least two of the functions of oxygen scavaging, free radical chain terminating and reducing. The composition has a pH of 2.5 to 5 and a water content of at least 12%.
Abstract: The invention provides compositions for providing body, fullness and texture to otherwise fine or very fine keratinous fibers, particularly human hair. The compositions of the present invention have a high pH, e.g., about 8 to about 10 when the compositions contain cationic polymer, and a pH of about 8 to about 14, preferably about 8.5 to about 13, and more preferably, about 8.5 to about 10 when the compositions contain no cationic polymer. The compositions include one or more nonionic and/or cationic polymers, which, in combination with the high pH of the composition, lift the hair cuticle and allow the deposition of polymer, thus resulting in increased fullness and texture to the hair. The compositions of the present invention may be in the form of known hair care products such as, for example, shampoos, rinses and conditioners. In addition, the compositions can be formulated, for example, as lotions or creams, and the like, for consumer use.
Abstract: Water soluble, cationic compounds useful as hair colorants or for the treatment of skin which are esters or amides formed by reaction of 5,6-dihydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid or its N-substituted derivatives and a quaternary salt containing a reactive amino or hydroxyl group, and polymers from such compounds obtained by oxidative polymerization.
Abstract: This invention provides compositions and methods for reducing odors associated with permanent hair waving by contacting the hair with a disulfide before, during, or after application of a sulfur-based reducing agent.
Abstract: A histamine H2 antagonist incompatible with acidic materials is incorporated in an effervescent composition and is stable therein provided the acidulant employed in the effervescent couple is a non-hydroxy group containing acidulant and such acidulant is employed as substantially the entire amount of the acidulant present in the formulation. Preferably the composition is devoid of hydroxy group containing acidulant. Adipic acid, succinic acid, fumaric acid and succinic anhyride may be employed as the acidulant. Adipic acid is preferred.
Abstract: There is disclosed a waste prevention system which avoids the discharge, inadvertent or otherwise, of laboratory waste, into a public sewage system and subsequently into the natural environment. The system employs, in combination, a laboratory sink having cooperatively connect thereto a carboy for collecting pollutants. The carboy is provided with elements to permit removal of samples of materials delivered thereto from the sink for testing of the same to determine the presence of pollutants. In the event no pollutants are present, the carboy may simply be opened and any wash or rinse water from the sink can be delivered into a public sewage system and then to the environment.
Abstract: 5-Nitroisatin is reacted with sodium hydroxide to produce an &agr;-keto acid sodium salt that is reduced with borane-tetrahydrofuran complex and then hydrogenated to produce 1-(2,5-diaminophenyl)ethylene glycol, a novel compound useful as a primary intermediate in the production of oxidative hair dyes.
