Abstract: A basketball constructed to include an inflatable inner tube, a leather cover, a carcass laminated in between the inner tube and the leather cover, and a thread layer bonded between the inner tube and the carcass, the carcass having a plurality of longitudinally grooved partition ribs formed integral with the outer surface thereof, each longitudinally grooved partition rib having protruding grains disposed in flash with protruding grains of the leather cover, the leather cover being formed of multiple panels of leather cover respectively adhered to the carcass and abutted against each of the longitudinally grooved partition ribs.

Abstract: A table tent is described for protecting food at an outdoor picnic. The table tent is intended to be constructed of mesh and supported on an interframe covering a conventional picnic table top. A mesh panel is provided immediately adjacent a table top and typically a plastic bottom which would have drain holes therein is provided on top of the mesh. The supporting frame rests on top of the plastic bottom and a mesh tent is provided having a roof resting on the top of the supporting frame and depending sides. The sides would be affixed to the border of the mesh base panel preferably by Velcro strips. Access to the table tent is provided by clear plastic windows in the upper roof which are secured by Velcro strips to the mesh tent. Compartments are further provided in the structure covered by clear plastic windows for holding eating utensils, napkins, bread and the like.

Abstract: In a switching arrangement, a plurality of modules are connected such that the main switching elements, FETs, are in series. Control of and power to the FETs is supplied via a single turn primary passing through a plurality of toroidal secondary transformers. A train of control pulses is applied to the single turn primary and their polarity determines whether the main FET is switched on or off, the length of the pulse train determining the pulse width and PRF of the output of the switching arrangement. The control pulses are also used to supply power to the main driver of the main FET.

Abstract: An electron beam tube such as a klystron includes a penultimate resonant cavity (22) located before the output cavity (14). The penultimate resonant cavity (22) is arranged to be inductively coupled, being resonant at a frequency which is slightly greater than a harmonic frequency. This provides increased sharpening of bunches of electrons arriving at the output cavity (14) giving increased efficiency at the output.

Abstract: A limiting feature in spacecraft such as communication satellites is becoming the amount of surface such as 5, 6 available for dissipating waste heat from the electrical equipment in the satellite. The invention provides a deployable radiator 11 which carries a number of capillary pumped loops consisting of an evaporator, an outward limb and a return limb. The panel 11 is rolled up to coil the elements prior to launch, and unrolled when in orbit. The outward and return lengths of tube act as condenser for the capillary pumped loop, transport the heat over the radiating panel 11 and also provide the spring force for the panel to unroll.

Abstract: A hydrocarbon production system comprises a topside installation connected to a underwater distribution unit 4 by an umbilical 3. The unit 4 is connected to Christmas Trees 8, 9 and 10 by respective ones of jumper interconnects 11, 12 and 13. Each Christmas Tree may comprise one or more of an electrical actuator 14, flow rate control choke 16, pressure and/or temperature transducers 18, down hole measurement transducers 18a and/or a down hole safety valve 21. Electrical power is transmitted to the unit 4 by a high voltage transmission cable forming part of the umbilical 3. A transformer forming part of the unit 4 steps down the voltage transmitted over the umbilical 3 to a level suitable for use by the electrical devices 14, 16 and 21. Power and control of the devices 14, 16, 18, 18a, 21 is effected by an underwater controller 5, 6, 7 associated with its respective Christmas Tree 8, 9, 10.

Abstract: An electron beam tube includes an electron gun included within a vacuum envelope defined partly by a ceramic cylinder. The ceramic cylinder includes straight sided portions and with an intervening conical section between them. The straight sided portions and form part of two r.f. chokes, being metallized on their inner and outer surfaces and forming a connection with a cavity forming part.

Abstract: A filter system for a deep fat fryer is described. The filter system can be used in a single fryer or with two or more sequentially operated fryers. In the later case, a common filter pan is used with a horizontal filter in the pan, disposed below a common drain pipe. A return pipe is mounted in the center of the filter. This pipe is connected to a pump inlet so that oil to be filtered is admitted to the pan above the filter, and filtered oil is removed from the pan through the filter. Filtered oil is then circulated by the pump through a three port valve to return the oil to the appropriate fryer tank. If the valve is closed the oil will be routed through the valve to an adjacent tank valve for admission to that tank so that a single pump may be used for a plurality of tanks. An optional flush system can also be provided so that oil can be used to flush a tank manually.

The resiliently deformable elements (30, 32) are detachably secured to only either the vanes (24) on the drive member or the vanes (26) on the driven member and are removeable in a radial direction without having to remove the drive or driven vanes from the coupling.

Abstract: In a manufacturing method of a solar cell arrangement, a p-n junction is formed in semiconductor material which is then separated to give a main body and an off-cut. The off-cut is connected in reverse parallel across the main body so as to act as a protection diode for a solar cell which comprises that main body. The off-cut protection diode may be placed adjacent the main body or may alternatively be mounted on the front or rear of the solar cell.

Abstract: An operational amplifier including a differential amplifier circuit, and a reverse output buffer. The reverse output buffer has a first forward switch, a second forward switch, a first reverse switch, and a second reverse switch. The first forward switch and the first reverse switch and the second forward switch are connected in series between a reference voltage source and a grounding terminal. The second forward switch being connected between the output terminal of the operational amplifier and the grounding terminal. The second reverse switch and the second forward switch are electrically connected by a bias voltage provided from a bias voltage input terminal connected thereto, so that when the second bias voltage input terminal is at low potential and the first bias voltage is at high potential, the second reverse switch is on, and the second forward switch is off. The operational amplifier will then function normally.
