  • Patent number: 6283346
Abstract: A strap is disclosed comprising a bottle-neck-strap-hole (13) with the measurements predetermined, in accordance with the bottle-neck size, the bottle-neck-strap-hole is cut to fit tightly around a bottle-neck. The bottle-neck-strap is designed to be worn comfortably over the shoulder, around the neck or hung on an object. The Bottle-neck-strap (10) made out of ethylene-vinyl-acetate, which has a hand like foam rubber, is a preferred practical application of this invention. This invention can also be made in a two piece bottle-neck-strap, with the area around the bottle-neck-strap-hole (13) referred to as a bottle-neck-collar (15). A rope, cord or string can be attached to the hole (16) at each end of the bottle-neck-collar; this completes the utility-bottle-neck-strap design.

  • Patent number: 6249536
Abstract: The array is highly suitable for producing a spacially wide output “beam” (comprising a number of individual beams). It suffers less from problems of hotspots and filamentation since each tapered laser supports a limited number of modes, or even a single mode. Therefore it produces a semiconductor laser which is especially suitable for pumping of other lasers and to be used in materials processing.

  • Patent number: 6241008
Abstract: In a capillary evaporator for use in a capillary pumped loop, in which capillary action in a porous wick 7 causes cold liquid to be drawn across the wick and vaporized by a heat input structure 6 and in particular fin 8 of that structure so that the vapour passes around a loop and rejects heat at a condenser in order to cool equipment in the vicinity of the evaporator, the vapour generated in the wick 7 from the liquid/vapor interface (meniscus) 11 is subject to a lower pressure drop than hitherto by virtue of a spacer 14 of greater permeability and thermal conductivity than the wick 7 without the necessity for the meniscus 11 to recede from the fin 8 which would cause an undesirable temperature drop of the meniscus, thereby improving the capacity of the evaporator to pump liquid/vapor around the loop and thus transport heat.

  • Patent number: 6212949
Abstract: A fluid level sensor and a washer unit are provided for an automated immonoassay processing system. A washer head (13) is vertically movable by a drive (2) above a reaction tray (8) having fluid (15) in separate cells. The level sensor comprises two electrodes arranged along a fluid path within aspirator tips (6). The electrodes are held at different electrical potentials and are effectively insulated from each other. If fluid is aspirated along the fluid path then the electrodes are bridged. Control means (1) is arranged to detect any change in conductance between the electrodes thereby indicating the presence of fluid (15). The vertical height of the washer head is determined relative to the sample thereby enabling the device to determine the level of the fluid (15).

  • Patent number: 6199993
Abstract: A new structure of automobile exterior rearview mirror which integrates an arc-surface wide-angle mirror and a plane mirror together to form a one-piece design. This design overcomes the drawbacks of the existing exterior rearview mirror, in which a driver use a stick-on type wide-angle mirror. In addition, the present invention also provides a blank surface area with parabolized image coating. The blank surface area is formed between the wide-angle mirror and the plane mirror and its function is to prevent the refraction and reflection interferences caused by the wide-angle mirror and the plane mirror. The exterior rearview mirror of the present invention is economical, will not fall off and has no blind spot. It is a full view safety mirror for backing up the car, making turns and changing lanes in the roadway.

  • Patent number: 6196118
Abstract: A baffle system for a deep fat fryer is described. The baffle system improves heat transfer from straight heat tubes which pass through the tank. The baffle is disposed within the tube to encounter products of combustion from a gas fired burner which enter the tube, and causes the products of combustion to swirl against the internal walls of the heat tube. In addition the baffle provides radiant surfaces which, when heated, radiate heat energy against the walls of the tube and the baffle rests on the tube wall itself to heat the same by conduction. Each baffle includes a plate with wings struck therefrom disposed at an acute angle against the flow of combustion products and each wing terminates in a flat tab disposed parallel to the plate for radiant energy.

  • Patent number: 6189845
Abstract: A tripod, in particular a mini tripod for mounting lockably a photographic apparatus, includes a platform, a base, and a plurality of legs. The joint between the platform and the base serves as a pivot whereby the platform can perform deviation within a limited distance. A through hole is provided to go through from one lateral side of the base to the other lateral side. An axial block 44 is fitted into one end of the through hole 21 for abutting a corresponding surface of the platform. The other end of the through hole is provided with a nut receiving recess and a left clutch receiving recess for receiving a nut and a left clutch, respectively. A right clutch is provided on a corresponding side of the platform. A rotary knob having a screw rod passes through the platform to screwably join the right clutch, the left clutch, and the nut. The rotary knob is turnable to drive the screw rod into the base so that the teeth of the left and right clutches inter-engage to achieve firm positioning of the platform.

  • Patent number: 6184757
Abstract: A number of electronic modules 82, 82′, 83, 83′ are mounted on a cold finger 100 disposed within a sealed housing 104, 110, the interior 210 of which is evacuated. To minimize heat transfer by conduction, gaps are provided in the dielectric substrates carrying the input and output transmission lines providing signal paths between the modules and electrical connectors on the exterior sidewalls 106, 108 of the housing. The gaps are bridged by thin conductive wires, thereby providing low electrical, but high thermal, impedance at the gaps. A number of module assemblies may be stacked on a single cold finger. To allow modules to be adjusted under actual operating conditions, a cover having a number of spring-loaded screwdrivers extending through vacuum tight seals and aligned with adjustable components of the modules, may be temporarily substituted for the enclosure lid 110. The springs urge the screwdrivers out of engagement when no adjustment is being made to minimize heat transfer.
