  • Patent number: 6209004
Abstract: A method and system use a processor, video display and relational database to format, define, generate, maintain, distribute and analyze sets of related documents. The process stores document-specific data in a relational database. A computer-controlled video display guides the document author through the creation and maintenance of the documents, while enforcing the document structure and dependency rules. The creation of documents that relate to activities that require multiple actions at specified time points is driven by a time/action electronic matrix that serves as a central control mechanism for each document set; an example is a document set for use in clinical research studies of drugs.

  • Patent number: 6205148
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for selecting an access router's protocol from a plurality of protocols in a communication system including first and second access routers for transferring a packet between the access routers according to the selected protocol. The packet is originated/terminated by users having a user address assigned and accommodated in the respective access routers. Storage is provided in the apparatus for storing a protocol type of the access router corresponding to the user address. The first access router issues a protocol request signal including the user address. The apparatus receives the protocol request signal and referring to the storage, responds to the signal with the protocol type of the second access router accommodating the user having the user address included in the request signal. The first access router, selects a protocol common to the first and second access routers to transfer the packet based on the response.

  • Patent number: 6205483
Abstract: In a local area network where communication between terminals is regulated by designating a management, or target, terminal, which is responsible for updating connecting regulation information on the other terminals, each communication terminal includes a station and a network interface. The network interface stores connecting regulation information in RAM. The network interface forwards or discards packets based on the connecting regulation information and the packet source and destination addresses. The network interface includes hardware, software, and a communication protocol designed to reduce the possibility of spoofing, where a terminal other than the target terminal changes the connecting regulation information. Each network interface includes a dip switch that is set to the target terminal's layer 2 MAC address or its layer 3 IP, or network, address.

  • Patent number: 6201488
Abstract: A CODEC has a DSP which can consecutively execute a plurality of algorithms without restriction of a memory capacity. The DSP performs an encoding/decoding operation on a digital signal. A program memory stores a program divided into a plurality of block programs, the program being stored on an individual block program basis. A data memory stores a set of data used for executing each block program stored in the program memory, the set of data being divided into a plurality of data blocks and stored on an individual data block basis. A program executing unit executes each block program stored in the program memory by using a corresponding data block stored in the data memory. A program changing unit obtains a new block program from an external device each time execution of one of the block programs by the program executing unit is completed so as to store the obtained new block program in the program memory.

  • Patent number: 6198726
Abstract: In a method of executing OAM processing in a plural-line terminating apparatus, a physical layer terminator converts a line signal to cells and adds a line identifier onto each cell header, the identifier specifying the line on which the cell arrived. A header converter converts a line-identifier/VPI/VCI of each cell to an identifier ICID for internal processing. An OAM processor unitarily manages data, which is necessary for OAM processing of each line, by a connection management table using the internal-processing identifier as an address, reads data from the management table based upon the ICID of the cells received from each of the lines, and executes OAM processing conforming to each line using the data that has been read.

  • Patent number: 6198478
Abstract: A CATV transmission center apparatus, a subscriber terminal device, a CATV distribution system, and a method of distributing a program, will solve the problems of the need to change transmission facilities for handling more channels, the costly CATV infrastructure per program, the expensive subscriber terminal devices, and the tedious and time-consuming process of selecting desired programs. When there is a request to view a program which is not being distributed from the subscriber terminal device to the CATV transmission center apparatus, an empty channel is searched for. If an empty channel is found, the requested program is distributed via the empty channel. All subscriber terminal devices are notified that the program which has started to be distributed is being distributed. The CATV transmission center apparatus distributes only those programs which are actually viewed by subscribers.
