Abstract: A belt is described for use as an emergency replacement for a regular drive or timing belt. The belt comprises an elongated flexible member which has an integral ratchet type connecting means provided on its opposite ends. The flexible member is cut to form a loop of the desired size and the opposite ends are then connected using the ratchet connecting means without requiring any special additional connecting members or tools. The belt is useful, for example, in automobiles as an emergency replacement for the conventional fan belt or other engine belts where a belt fails in use and where the replacement belt permits the motorist to drive a sufficient distance to reach a garage for a regular belt replacement.
Abstract: A device is described for orienting intravenous needles or other similar articles having relatively long shank portions which terminates in bevelled or flat tips. The device has a fixture for supporting the needles at an angle to the horizontal and with the bevelled tip resting on a knife edge. A vibrator is coupled to the needle supporting fixture causing the needle to turn to its most stable position on the knife edge where the flat portion engages the knife edge.
Abstract: A one-piece molded closure cap having a cover and a depending skirt. There are container engaging means on the skirt for engaging cap engaging means on the container. There is a downwardly projecting sealing rim on the underside of the cap cover positioned for engaging the container rim. The sealing ring has a flared and curving radially inner corner sealing surface including an intermediate ring-like top scaling projection.
Abstract: Improvements are described for apparatus used in the measurement of acoustic admittance in ear canals including circuit means for permitting the measurement of relatively small acoustic volumes with an accuracy of better than one percent.
Abstract: An improved affinity gel-adsorbent for use in an improved method of purifying glucocorticoid receptor by affinity chromatography and having the formula: ##STR1## R.sub.1 : H or OH or .dbd.O R.sub.2 : H or FR.sub.3 : H or FR.sub.4 : OH or HR.sub.5 : OH or H ##STR2## R.sub.6 : H or CH.sub.3 X: 1 through 8M: Matrix ##STR3## Alternative A ring with .DELTA.1,2 double bond.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a means of alerting a distant party through a telephone call and a predetermined alarm that a distressed party has activated a distress button. The distressed party indicates an emergency and summons help by pressing a pad button or by means of a remote transmitter without actually going to a telephone. The transmitter signals a receiver by means of a radio frequency and triggers the receiver so that a predetermined telephone number is dialed and an emergency alert is placed on the line for a predetermined amount of time. After an additional period for verification of any emergency, the time sequence is repeated.

Abstract: A fireplace insert comprising a frame having a plurality of arms pivotally mounted on the frame. The arms are adapted to move relative to each other in order to form an X-shaped configuration or a V-shaped configuration which will provide spaces to hold logs and/or kindling material. The arms are adjustable on the frame so that the spaces for the logs can be adjusted to accommodate logs of varying sizes. The device permits the logs to remain close to each other and at the same time will provide sufficient air space to form a very efficient fire.
Abstract: An improved circuit for a transducer or loud-speaker as used in the measurement of acoustic quantities such as in impedance audiometers for providing accurate linear read outs.
Abstract: A pressure sensitive one piece carpet-binder construction for releasably adhering working pieces, such as carpets or similar articles, to holding surfaces, such as a floor substrate.
