  • Patent number: 8020207
Abstract: A malware detection and response system based on traffic pattern anomalies detection is provided, whereby packets associated with a variety of protocols on each port of a network element are counted distinctly for each direction. Such packets include: ARP requests, TCP/SYN requests and acknowledgements, TCP/RST packets, DNS/NETBEUI name lookups, out-going ICMP packets, UDP packets, etc. When a packet causes an individual count or combination of counts to exceed a threshold, appropriate action is taken. The system can be incorporated into the fast path, that is, the data plane, enabling communications systems such as switches, routers, and DSLAMs to have built-in security at a very low cost.

  • Patent number: 8008994
Abstract: Various exemplary embodiments include a cavity having a tuning assembly with tunable capacitive coupling. The tuning assembly may have a recess having a specified depth, designed for a default magnitude of coupling into the cavity. A sleeve may be fully inserted within the recess to have the structure operate at that default coupling magnitude. If a different amount of coupling is desired, the sleeve may be inserted to a particular depth that only includes part of the recess, enabling repeatable tuning of a plurality of cavities.

  • Patent number: 8005087
Abstract: A serving gateway facing a radio access network receives packets, applies deep packet inspect to classify the packet into a predetermined application class, and inserts a marker identifying the class and a QoS associated with the class. The serving gateway assigns the packets to a queue within a default bearer based on the class and the QoS marker. The serving gateway transfers packets through the bearer by processing the queues in accordance with their priority.

  • Patent number: 8000264
Abstract: The invention is directed to managing changes to a configuration of routers connected in a ring network architecture. Embodiments of the invention alleviate risks to services carried over a ring of IP/MPLS routers when configuration changes are made to the ring, such as inserting a router into, or removing a router from, the ring. To that end, embodiments of the invention automate some steps of such a configuration change operation that were previously performed manually, and coordinate those steps with other steps of the operation using a procedure stored as instructions on a computer readable media and executed by a computer system in order to effect and validate a correct sequencing of the steps.

  • Patent number: 7984493
Abstract: Malicious network activities do not make use of the Domain Name System (DNS) protocol to reach remote targets outside a local network. This DNS-based enforcement system for confinement and detection of network malicious activities requires that every connection toward a resource located outside the local network is blocked by default by the local enforcement box, e.g. a firewall or a proxy. Outbound connections are allowed to leave the local network only when authorized directly by an entity called the DNS Gatekeeper.

  • Patent number: 7974308
Abstract: A system and method are provided for implementing CESOP inexpensively yet effectively implemented across an MPLS or an IP network. A Zarlink chip provides CESOP functionality, providing a TDM pseudowire by converting TDM streams into Ethernet packets. These Ethernet packets can be processed by a Marvell chip, which has the ability to perform QoS functions on the packets. The Marvell chip converts the Ethernet packets into MPLS or IP packets for transmission over a packet network. Use of a single virtual circuit label, invisible to the packet network for routing purposes, within the Ethernet packet allows Marvell chips at each end of the emulated circuit to tie traffic to a particular customer and to thereby apply appropriate QoS constraints.

  • Patent number: 7974234
Abstract: Methods for authenticating peer mobile network nodes for establishing a secure peer-to-peer communications context in an ad-hoc network are presented. The methods include accessing wireless infrastructure network entities at low bandwidth and for a short time duration to obtain cryptographic information regarding a peer mobile network node for the purpose of establishing secure peer-to-peer communications therewith ad-hoc network. Having received cryptographic information regarding a peer mobile network node, the method further includes challenging the peer network node with a challenge phrase derived from the cryptographic information received, receiving a response, and establishing a secure communications context to the peer mobile network node based on the validity of the received response.

  • Patent number: 7965707
Abstract: A system and method are provided for providing multiple aliases and associated policy profiles for a user of a VoIP communication system. The user configures a multitude of aliases by the user wishes to be contacted, and associates with each alias a policy stored at a user terminal. The aliases are stored within the network so as to be associated with contact information for the user terminal. A proxy processes call requests by determining the contact information associated with an alias entered by a caller, and forwards the call request to the user terminal associated with the contact information. The user terminal determines the alias used by the caller, and processes the connection request in accordance with the policy. The invention allows users to add and delete aliases in order to effect temporary and private contact information. Calls can be handled depending on which alias was used by a caller, rather than on an identification of the device used by the caller.

  • Patent number: 7957274
Abstract: In source routed or hop-by-hop routed protocol communication networks, when congestion is detected at a certain network element, a notification message is sent to nodes. The nodes keep track of congestion condition and generally have knowledge of the congestion, thereby allowing them to make more intelligent routing decisions, i.e., rate controlling messages, routing traffic around congestion, regulating admission at the edge of the network. The intelligent routing decision is based on the congestion condition indicated by a restriction level which is periodically and dynamically updated.
