  • Patent number: 7483047
Abstract: An inner ring signal and an outer ring signal according to specific patterns formed on the label side of the optical disc are generated. Timing starts when the outer ring signal reveals the end of a positioning pattern and stops to obtain a timing value when the inner ring signal reveals the start of a square wave defining a specified spoke. A starting spoke is defined according to the inner ring signal and the specified spoke. A deviation bit value is calculated according to the timing value and a bit number of a data to be marked on a certain track of the optical disc. The data is rotated according to the deviation bit value, and then marked on the certain track, starting with the starting spoke.

  • Patent number: 7440371
Abstract: An open-loop test procedure under high rotating speed is entered to compute a first TE crossing track number. The first TE crossing track number greater than a first threshold indicates an unbalanced disc and results in a low-speed reading procedure. On the other hand, the first TE crossing track number less than a second threshold value that is less than the first threshold value indicates a normal disc and results in a high-speed reading procedure. When the first TE crossing track number lies between the first and second threshold values, another open-loop test procedure under low rotating speed is entered to compute a second TE crossing track number. A low-speed reading procedure is performed when the second TE crossing track number is greater than a third threshold value, and a high-speed reading procedure is performed when the second TE crossing track number is less than the third threshold value.

  • Patent number: 7385894
Abstract: In a method for determining defective blocks of an optical disc, a defect-detection procedure for each block of the optical disc is performed. After the defect-detection procedure, a preliminary defective group of the optical disc is realized. Subsequently, the track number between two selected defective blocks of the preliminary defective group are detected. When the track number is less than a predetermined number, the blocks lying in a linear region including the two selected blocks are defined as defective blocks in addition to all defective blocks included in the preliminary defective group.

  • Publication number: 20080130439
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for dynamically detecting writing quality of a recordable optical disc. According to the method, firstly a current detecting position located on a program area of the recordable optical disc is set. Then the recordable disc drive proceeds data recording in the program area with an optimal write power. The recordable disc drive paused data recording when a recording position exceeds or is equal to the current detecting position. Then the recordable disc drive reproduces pre-recorded data in the tracks of the recordable optical disc to perform OPC for modifying the optimal write power and calculating a jitter value. Thereafter a following detecting position is modified based on the jitter value and data recording is restarted in the program area with the modified optimal write power until the recording position exceeds or is equal to the modified following detecting position.
