Patent number: 7113462Abstract: A method of adjusting the write speed of a CD drive includes writing data from a CD drive to a disk at a first speed during a first preset time. If, at the end of the first preset time, the data error rate at the first speed is larger than the error allowance upper limit for the first preset time, then writing of the data will be completed at the first speed. However, if at the end of the first preset time, the data error rate at the first speed is smaller than the error allowance upper limit for the first preset time, then the writing speed will be adjusted to a second higher speed. The same process can be repeated for the second higher speed.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2002Date of Patent: September 26, 2006Assignee: Lite-On It Corp.Inventors: Yi-Shih Wang, Yung-Yu Chang

Patent number: 7102971Abstract: A method for reducing the number of operations performed on a recording disk during Mt. Rainier defect processing is disclosed. According to this method, data is written from a host to a recording disk. If there are defects in the section where data is to be written, a replacement block for the currently-processed defective block is searched for. If there is previous replaced data currently stored in the replacement packet buffer (RPB), and if the packet in the RPB is the same as the packet for the replacement block, then the method only copies the data in the currently-processed defective block into the corresponding replacement block in the RPB without any reading operations. In addition, after completion of the read and copy operations, no immediate write to the recording disk is performed, thereby saving time.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2003Date of Patent: September 5, 2006Assignee: Lite-On It Corp.Inventor: Kuo-Chiang Chang

Patent number: 7028320Abstract: A method for reducing the stable rotation speed of an automatic ball balancing system is used with an automatic ball balancing system that has a rotor that has an annular track, with at least one ball provided for rotation inside the track. First, an optimum rotation speed ws that is between the unstable critical rotation speed wc of a ball and a working rotation speed w is first determined. In the next step, the rotor is accelerated to the optimum rotation speed ws. Next, the acceleration of the rotor is reduced until the balls are stationary relative to the track, and then the rotor is accelerated to the working rotation speed w.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2003Date of Patent: April 11, 2006Assignee: Lite-On It Corp.Inventors: Lih-Hwa Kuo, Jeng-Jiun Chen

Patent number: 6934232Abstract: A method is provided for determining whether a rotating disk in an optical disk reading device is unbalanced. According to the method, the disk is first rotated at a preset rotational speed, and a lens is then located to a first position. Then, as the lens is moved towards a second position at a predetermined speed, a time duration during which a preliminary signal is generated is determined. The disk is determined to be unbalanced if the time duration exceeds a preset value.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2003Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: Lite-On IT Corp.Inventor: Yi-Chuan Pan
