Abstract: An adaptively learning method and apparatus is used for improving a write strategy for discs of the same type produced by the same manufacturer. When a write action is completed, the previous written data is reproduced for checking the write quality of the written data. If the write quality does not comply with requirements, the write strategy will be tuned and the new write strategy will be recorded into a memory for the use of next write action. In this way, the write quality of the present write action will be better than that of the previous write action so as to maintain the write quality.

  • Publication number: 20070247512
Abstract: In a track control method for marking a label side of an optical disc, a data side of the optical disc is first oriented to an optical head. A light beam is then emitted and a sled carrying the optical head moves. A series of moving distances of the sled are calculated according to the light beam reflected by the optical disc, which are then recorded in a memory. The optical disc is then flipped to have the label side face the optical head, and the shift of the optical head is controlled to mark on tracks of the label side according to the series of moving distances recorded in the memory.

  • Publication number: 20070230293
Abstract: A method for moving a sledge disposed thereon an optical pickup head of an optical disc drive is provided for controlling the motion of the sledge relative to an optical disc loaded. The optical disc drive further includes a sledge motor. At first, the sledge motor drives the sledge to move toward the center of the optical disc. At the same time, the tracks crossed by the optical pickup head are detected and counted according to a tracking error signal generated by the optical pickup head. When the count or an increment in the count within a specific period is not larger than a predetermined value or the tracking error signal is undetectable, the optical disc drive immediately stops the sledge motor from driving the sledge. The monitoring mechanism can avoid undesired impact and noises of the sledge.

  • Patent number: 7173886
Abstract: A method is disclosed for jumping tracks on a double-layer optical disk from a first address A on a first data layer to a target address D on a second data layer. According to the method, the first address A where the optical head is currently positioned is read. Then, after jumping to the second data layer, a relative second address B on the second data layer that corresponds to the first address A on the first data layer is read. If the second address B on the second data layer is smaller than the first address A on the first data layer, then the address of the second address B on the second data layer is shifted and a new target address is obtained on the second data layer based on this address shift. A calculation function is performed based on the first address A and the new target address, and then the optical head is moved to the new target address on the second data layer.

  • Patent number: 7123573
Abstract: An automatic ball balancing system for an optical disk reading device has a rotor mechanism that has a concave annular track formed on the rotor, with at least one ball placed on the annular track to perform automatic balancing. A surface with a low friction coefficient is also provided on the annular track in the gravity direction of the balls to reduce the movement resistance between the ball(s) and the annular track. In the meantime, the stable rotation speed of the rotor and the system phase angle of the ball(s) when the rotor reaches a stable rotation speed are also changed. One way of effecting this change is to bond or coat a material with a low friction coefficient on the annular track in the gravity direction of the balls. In this way, the balancing effect of the automatic ball balancing system can be improved.
