Abstract: An assembly for advancing a piston through a rotationally fixed cartridge includes a rotatable, axially fixed first member and an axially movable, rotatable second member connected thereto via a threaded connection and connectable to the piston. A friction pad is rotationally fixedly connected with the second member and includes first and second sets of fingers extending radially outwardly from a central disk. Both the first and second sets of fingers are configured to contact an interior side wall of the cartridge. The first set of fingers are angled toward a first rotational direction and are configured to wedge the friction pad between the side wall and the second member upon rotation of the first member in the first direction, thereby substantially preventing rotation in the first direction. The second set of fingers are angled toward a second rotational direction and are configured to substantially prevent rotation in the second direction.

Abstract: In some embodiments a system and method are described for safeguarding a hazard, the hazard, for example a needle point, may be moved between a protected retracted position, an active extended position and/or an intermediate position. Optionally in the retracted position, the hazard may be protected inside a housing. Optionally in the extended position, the hazard may be exposed. Optionally, in the intermediate position the hazard may be partially protected and/or concealed, for example by a shield and/or in an indentation. In some embodiments, compromising a shield causes the hazard to be retracted to the retracted position.

Abstract: A liquid transfer device is described. The liquid transfer device comprising a vial adapter comprising a puncturing cannula for puncturing an injection vial stopper, an IV spike and a substitute IV port holder for receiving a substitute IV port, and a flow control member port. The IV spike, the substitute IV port holder and the puncturing cannula are in flow communication with the flow control member port. The liquid transfer device comprising a flow control member sealingly inserted in the flow control member port. Rotation of the flow control member between a plurality of positions controls flow communication of the liquid transfer device, the positions comprising a mixing position for enabling flow communication between the IV spike and the puncturing cannula; and an administering position for enabling flow communication between the IV spike and the substitute IV port holder.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a pharmaceutical syringe having a cylindrical bore with a proximal opening, the syringe comprising a distal wall of the bore defining an outlet biased from the central axis of the syringe, and toward a first area of the distal wall and biased from the central axis away from a second area distinct from the first area; the syringe comprising a plunger seal having a distal surface; wherein when the plunger seal is fitted into the bore with the distal surface facing an inner surface of the distal wall of the bore, the second area of the inner surface is axially closer to the distal surface of the plunger seal than the first area, in a direction parallel to the central axis of the cylindrical bore, such that fluid is expelled from the second area and towards the outlet.

Abstract: An injector includes an injector housing and a cartridge door movably mounted to the injector housing between a fully closed position and an open position. A latching mechanism is movable between a latched position, locking the cartridge door to the injector housing in the fully closed position thereof, and an unlatched position, unlocking the cartridge door from the injector housing, thereby enabling movement of the cartridge door toward the open position. The latching mechanism is oriented in the unlatched position when the cartridge door is empty and the latching mechanism is configured to move to the latched position solely when a cartridge is present in the cartridge door and the cartridge door is subsequently moved to the fully closed position thereof.

The liquid drug transfer device includes an injection vial adapter for mounting on an intact injection vial having an injection vial stopper without puncturing same, a liquid source adapter for attachment to a liquid source, a dual ended liquid transfer member for flow communication with the liquid source and puncturing an injection vial stopper, a safety catch mechanism requiring an initial manual linear sliding extension for priming the liquid drug transfer device, an extension limit arrangement for limiting the linear sliding extension, and a snap fit securing arrangement for securing the liquid source adapter on the injection vial adapter after actuation.

Abstract: An independent mounting module is receivable within a housing of an injector configured to dispense a substance from a cartridge insertable into the housing through an injection needle of the injector. The mounting module includes a first mount and a second mount. The first mount is configured to receive a driving assembly engageable with the cartridge to expel the substance therefrom. The first mount is selectively securable to the injector housing and has a cantilevered mounting arm extending therefrom. The second mount is configured to receive an actuator operatively connectable with the driving assembly. The second mount is attached to the cantilevered mounting arm and suspended therefrom, thereby being supported by the cantilevered mounting arm.

Abstract: A drug delivery device is disclosed that includes a housing including a channel, a drug reservoir fitting into the channel, and a friction element extending from a housing to the channel to contact an exterior side wall of the reservoir when the reservoir is inserted into the channel. The friction element is configured and oriented to wedge between the exterior wall and the reservoir when the reservoir is rotated in a first rotational direction.

Abstract: A patch injector (10) for parenteral administration of a drug to a drug recipient has a drug-cartridge module (14) attached to a power-pack module (12) and to a drug-recipient interface module (16). A compressed, elastic power element (18) disposed in the power-pack module (12) is coupled to a plunger (30) movably disposed in a drug reservoir (22) in the drug-cartridge module (14). An injection needle (24) at the distal end of the drug reservoir (22) is oriented orthogonal to the drug reservoir (22) and generally toward a skin-contact surface (28) extending parallel to the longitudinal drug-reservoir axis (22A). The power element (18) is configured to displace the plunger (20) distally into the drug reservoir (22) and to move the injection needle (24) toward the skin-contact surface (28) when the power element (18) expands distally along the drug-reservoir axis (22A).

Abstract: A device for drug injection has a cartridge, which in turn has a reservoir and a fluid path. The fluid path carries a fluid for injection from the reservoir to the place where the patient is to be injected. The fluid path comprises a needle, and the fluid path is kept sterile. A drive chain extends the needle to the injection point, but is only mechanically connected to the fluid path to operate the needle, the mechanical connection being such as to operate the needle while maintaining the fluid path sterility.

Abstract: Fluid transfer devices for filling a drug pump cartridge with liquid drug contents for administration purposes. Fluid transfer device includes a dual open ended barrel partitioned by a transverse partition into a drug vial port for telescopic mounting on a drug vial and an open ended piston cylinder for slidingly receiving a piston head including a drug pump cartridge port for telescopic mounting on a leading cartridge end of a drug pump cartridge. Sliding insertion of the piston head into the piston cylinder to butt against the transverse partition urges air trapped in the compression chamber into the drug vial which in turn urges its liquid drug contents into the vented drug pump cartridge.

Abstract: Syringe assemblies including a syringe pre-equipped with an integral liquid drug administration device for enabling administration of liquid drug contents and a drug vial adapter for telescopic mounting on a drug vial containing liquid drug contents. The drug vial adapter is initially mounted on the syringe and is intended to be manually detached therefrom to expose the integral liquid drug administration device. The syringe includes a flow control member having an initial flow path position for enabling filling the syringe with liquid drug contents from the drug vial and a final flow path position for enabling administration of liquid drug contents. Detachment of the drug vial adapter from the syringe urges the flow control member from its initial flow path position to its final flow path position.

Abstract: Liquid transfer devices with an integral telescopic vial adapter for use with an infusion liquid container and an initially non-punctured intact discrete injection vial. The integral telescopic vial adapter is configured for initial telescopic snap mounting on a discrete injection vial leaving its injection vial stopper non-punctured until a subsequent compaction for puncturing the injection vial stopper. The integral telescopic vial adapter includes a safety catch mechanism for precluding advertent compaction from a pre-compacted state to a compacted state. The integral telescopic vial adapter includes a clamping arrangement for irreversibly clamping same in its final compacted state.

Abstract: Liquid drug transfer devices including an integral telescopic vial adapter for telescoping from an initial pre-compacted state to a final compacted state. In the initial pre-compacted state, the vial adapter telescopically snap fits on an initially non-punctured intact discrete injection vial leaving its injection vial stopper non-punctured. In the final compacted state, the vial adapter punctures the injection vial stopper. The liquid drug transfer device is used with an intact discrete injection vial release tool for applying a pincers-like compression for convenient release of a non-punctured intact discrete injection vial in the initial pre-compacted state. The vial adapter includes a clamping arrangement for irreversibly clamping same in the final compacted state. The vial adapter precludes release of a punctured discrete injection vial in its final compacted state.
