Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable mediums for providing user interface (UI) information associated with a computing system are disclosed. According to one exemplary embodiment, a method for providing UI information comprises receiving, from a requesting entity, a request for information associated with an element of a computing system, selecting, using data from the request, a UI element for representing the element from a repository comprising a set of UI elements for representing various elements of the computing system, and providing, to the requesting entity, UI information for displaying the UI element.

Abstract: A data processing method is disclosed which includes the steps of: (a) generating edit data which includes a unique material identifier for uniquely identifying material data to be edited and of edit content of the material data; (b) generating management data indicative of the unique material identifier in association with a storage location where the material data identified by the unique material identifier are stored; (c) specifying the storage location where the material data associated with the unique material identifier included in the edit data generated in step (a) are stored, on the basis of the management data generated in step (b); and (d) acquiring the material data from the storage location specified in step (c).

Abstract: A computer-implemented method of presenting digital content can include displaying several arranged in a staggered formation in a user interface, wherein at least one of the several panes is entirely visible and adjacent panes are partially visible and displayed adjacent to the entirely visible pane, displaying a frame of an item of digital content comprising a sequence of frames in an entirely visible pane and displaying adjacent frames in corresponding adjacent panes, and displaying in the entirely visible pane successive frames of the digital content item by sequentially replacing the frame in the entirely visible pane with an adjacent frame.

Abstract: A plurality of elements is identified by a user for input to the computing system by at least one of sequential and simultaneous selection of elements presented on a display of a computing system. Based on the elements thus identified, which may include at least one operator and at least one operand, the computing system recognizes a function to be performed by the computing system and causes a visual indication to be presented on the display. The computing system thus may present a visual indication showing a connection between, for example, the operator and an operand, or an operand and a functional area of the display associated with the function to be performed as a result of the elements identified. The visual indication thus confirms to the user the elements that the user has identified, and the resulting function that will be initiated.

Abstract: A method in a data processing system for providing a user of the data processing system with control of a software object organized into a plurality of information levels including initially displaying a first display window having a first size. The first display window includes a first level tab navigation frame to allow the user interactive access to a first information level of the plurality of information levels. The first display window additionally includes a first window-sizing interface to allow the user interactive access to a second display window having a second size which includes a second level tab navigation frame to allow the user interactive access to a second information level of the plurality of information levels and to subsequently display the second display window in response to the user interacting with the first window-sizing interface.

Abstract: Systems and methods that automatically arrange, or re-arrange, object nodes in a diagram such that the total length of all associations between nodes and the number of overlapping associations is reduced or minimized. In mathematical terms, the process simplifies the graphical representation of an arbitrary graph. In one aspect, processes of the invention use a physical model of particle interactions to determine a minimal energy state, with object nodes modeled as particles and the associations between the object nodes modeled as interaction forces. Perturbations applied to the system allow for a determination of a minimal energy state.

Abstract: Techniques for integrated audit and configuration are provided. The techniques include receiving a request from a user to analyze first configuration information with a second set of configuration information; receiving the first configuration information; analyzing one or more parameters of the first configuration information with the second set of configuration information to result in creating and storing comparison information; displaying the comparison information; choosing one or more action mechanisms to provide to the user for each of the one or more parameters based on the comparison information; and enabling the user to perform one or more actions associated with the one or more action mechanisms.

Abstract: Improved conversation grouping methods and systems are provided for electronic mail records. Electronic mail messages that are unread or flagged for follow-up are automatically displayed under an associated conversation grouping heading. If a conversation grouping contains only a single unread or flagged electronic mail message, the single electronic mail message is automatically displayed under the conversation grouping heading for review by a user. For a conversation grouping having no unread or flagged electronic mail messages, the latest electronic mail message in the grouping is automatically displayed under the conversation grouping heading.

Abstract: A selection accelerator in topology views is presented. A user uses a topology view to manage a computer network whereby the topology view includes a plurality of nodes and their relationships that correspond to computer network components. When a user selects a primary node, processing identifies related nodes, and displays a relationship identifier next the related nodes, such as a hierarchal level corresponding to the primary node. By viewing the relationship identifiers, the user is able to depress a key to select a plurality of related nodes based upon their relationships. In addition, the user is able to request an invert select which informs processing to select nodes related to the primary node which are not currently selected.

Abstract: A tooltip is updated dynamically as a user continues to hover a cursor over any displayed item for which additional information is available. The initial tooltip is terse or has one type of information, while the updates add more or substitute different information. Tooltips are created dynamically from whatever information is available about displayed items at the time. A client displays a web page, while a server identifies displayed items for which additional information is available, obtains the information, and either provides the information to the client to generate tooltips therefrom or generates the tooltips and provides them to the client.

Abstract: In an electronic interaction space, transitioning between a first and second screen layout includes determining a difference between the first and second screen layouts, wherein the first and second screen layouts include at least one pod each, and rendering the difference as a dynamic and intermediate screen layout that uses a representation of physical motion to present a gradual change.

Abstract: A contextually sensitive user interface for defining an e-mail message handling rule is provided. The user interface includes one or more user interface objects for specifying conditions for the rule and one or more user interface objects for defining the actions to be performed if the specified conditions are met. The conditions that are displayed within the user interface for selection are chosen, at least in part, based upon the context in which a request to create the e-mail handling rule is received. The displayed conditions may be based, in part, upon the contexts of reading an e-mail message, creating an e-mail message, creating an alert subscription, or selecting a user name.

Abstract: A method includes defining a set of attributes associated with at least one resource, determining that a resource matches the set of attributes within a context and displaying the resource as a selectable resource graphical object on a user device. The method may include defining the set of attributes by receiving information that defines an object class of the at least one resource.

Abstract: Techniques and tools are described for recording input from user actions in a user interface (UI) and replicating the UI activity on a computing device. When recording and replicating UI activity, these techniques and tools improve the readability of the recorded input data and the reliability of playback. The techniques and tools may be used in combination or separately. For example, a recording tool uses a set of filters, which aggregates recorded data into basic, readable primitive methods. The recording tool converts the aggregated data into playback code by converting the playback primitive methods into corresponding computer language instructions. A playback tool may then replicate the initial recorded UI activity by playing back the computer language instructions.

Abstract: An information retrieval system in which a set of distinct information items map to respective nodes in an array of nodes by mutual similarity of the information items, so that similar information items map to nodes at similar positions in the array of nodes comprises: a graphical user interface for displaying a representation of at least some of the nodes as a two-dimensional display array of display points within a display area on a user display; a user control for defining a two-dimensional region of the display area; and a detector for detecting those display points lying within the two-dimensional region of the display area; the graphical user interface also displaying a list of data representing information items, being those information items mapped onto nodes corresponding to display points displayed within the two-dimensional region of the display area.

Abstract: A method is provided for displaying data organized in a tree list including nodes. The method includes assigning to each node in the tree list a line structure identifying attributes of the node to be displayed; displaying at least two nodes having different line structures in a display area; and, for each of the at least two nodes, displaying, in the display area, the attributes of the node identified by the assigned line structure. The method may include displaying line structures for groups of nodes. The various displays of nodes, attributes and line structures my be altered and activated based on user input, such as selection or other indication of a particular node.

Abstract: A third party website provides a search interface to a general search engine. A site profile of the third party website describes various topics, keywords, or domains that are potentially relevant or of interest to users who access the third party website. The topics are associated with a topical directory, with domains associated with each topic; the domains in a given topic are given various weightings. When a search is submitted to the general search engine from the third party website via the search interface, the general search engine uses the site profile to customize the search results. The search results are customized by weighting the ranking of documents from websites associated with the topics in the site profile. The site profile can be manually or automatically constructed.

Abstract: An interactive tool for viewing and manipulating a virtual content repository (VCR) having an application program interface (API), comprising providing a first graphical user interface (GUI) configured to present a hierarchical namespace wherein the namespace includes at least one element, and wherein one of the at least one element can be selected, providing a second GUI configured to present and to enable editing of content associated with the selected element in the first GUI, providing a third GUI configured to present and to enable editing of schema associated with the selected element in the first GUI, and wherein the VCR includes at least one content repository, and wherein the at least one content repository includes a service provider interface (SPI) compatible with the API.

Abstract: A display control program is proposed which displays data already stored in a memory on a display unit if an empty capacity of the memory is insufficient for an amount of write data to be written in the memory; displays an operator on the display unit in a first color, the operator being capable of moving by a user operation and being used for selecting data to be overwritten with the write data from the data displayed on the display unit; displays a gage on the display unit and display in a second color a range in the gage corresponding to an insufficient capacity for writing the write data in the memory; and displays a range in the gage corresponding to an empty capacity to be formed by deleting the data selected with the operator, in the first color same as a color of the operator.
