  • Patent number: 8909817
Abstract: A signal associated with multiple haptic effects is received, each haptic effect from the multiple haptic effects being associated with a time slot from multiple time slots. Each haptic effect from the multiple haptic effects is associated with an effect slot from multiple effect slots at least partially based on the time slot associated with that haptic effect. An output signal is sent for each effect slot from the multiple effect slots, when the associated haptic effect is scheduled for its time slot.

  • Patent number: 8904076
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to coding data in an apparatus. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a coder circuit coupled to a data bus, where the coder circuit is configured to receive an indication that data is being transmitted over the data bus from a first circuit to a second circuit. The coder circuit is configured to perform a coding operation on the data in response to receiving the indication. In some embodiments, the coder circuit is configured to operate in a mode in which the coder circuit captures data of a data transmission via the data bus without being specified as a participant of the data transmission. When the coder circuit is not operating in the mode, the coder circuit is not configured to capture data of a data transmission without being specified as a participant of the data transmission.

  • Patent number: 8904048
Abstract: Bidirectional (bidi) extension techniques for USB and/or other similar busses/connections are described in which an interface is provided to enable bidirectional communication with connected devices. The interface may be implemented as an operating system component to handle bidi communication for devices from multiple different independent hardware vendors (IHVs). Device drivers for different devices can be configured to include extension files in accordance with an established schema for bidi communication. The extension files describe supported bidi attributes, capabilities of the device, and how to make calls into the device. The interface operates to detect the extension files and set-up a corresponding device for bidi communication. Applications then interact through the interface to access, retrieve, and set configuration and status data for connected devices.

  • Patent number: 8898349
Abstract: Certain aspects direct to data transfer between a baseboard management controller (BMC) and a host computer. When the BMC is connected to the host computer via a universal serial bus (USB) interface, the BMC sends USB descriptors to the host computer such that the host computer recognizes the BMC as a specific human interface device (HID) device based on the USB descriptors. To transfer data to the host computer, the BMC converts the data to an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) message, and generates a USB HID report containing the IPMI message as the report data. The BMC then sends the USB HID report to the host computer through the USB interface. When the BMC receives a USB HID report from the host computer, the BMC retrieves the report data, which is an IPMI message, from the USB HID report, and process the IPMI message to obtain the data.

  • Patent number: 8892788
Abstract: A method and system for copying data within a guest using a direct memory access (DMA) engine. A computer system hosts a hypervisor and a guest. The hypervisor detects an inquiry of the guest about a DMA engine. In response to the inquiry, the hypervisor indicates to the guest that a DMA engine is available. The hypervisor then receives a DMA request from the guest, the DMA request indicating a source address and a target address for copying data. Both the source address and the target address are within an address space allocated to the guest. Based on one or more data transfer policies, the hypervisor determines whether to direct the DMA engine to copy the data for the guest.

  • Patent number: 8880770
Abstract: An adapter facilitates communications between an accessory and a media source. When the adapter is connected to the accessory, the adapter can receive a connection request from the media source. Based on the connection request, the adapter can determine whether the media source supports an accessory protocol. The adapter can receive streamed media from the media source. When a control message is received by the adapter from the accessory, if the adapter determined that the media source supports the accessory protocol, the adapter transmits the control message to the media source using the accessory protocol. If the adapter determined that the media source does not support the accessory protocol, the adapter translates the control message and transmits the translated message to the media source.

  • Patent number: 8850091
Abstract: In one embodiment of the invention, a memory apparatus for improved write performance is disclosed. The memory apparatus includes a base printed circuit board (PCB) having an edge connector for plugging into a host server system; a card level power source to provide card level power during a power failure; a memory controller coupled to the card level power source and having one or more memory channels; and one or more non-volatile memory devices (NVMDs) coupled to the card level power source and organized to respectively couple to the memory channels controlled by the memory controller. Each memory controller provides queuing and scheduling of memory operations on a channel for each NVMD in the memory channels. Responsive to power failure, the memory controller receives card level power and changes the scheduling of memory operations to the NVMDs in each memory channel.

  • Patent number: 8843669
Abstract: An invention is disclosed for offloading operations, such data transfers, of a guest partition to a host partition. A guest operating system is presented with virtualized resources rather than physical resources—e.g. a guest virtualized processor, guest virtualized memory space, and a guest virtualized direct memory access (DMA) controller. The guest partition can detect the guest operation system attempt to initiate a data transfer, and can instruct the host partition to perform the data transfer. The guest partition need not perform the data transfer using the guest virtual resources. The host partition can perform the data transfer to a remote computing as instructed by the guest partition without copying the data to the host virtualized memory space. The host partition can provide a message to the guest partition indicative of a status of the data transfer.

  • Patent number: 8738813
Abstract: The SCSI WRITE command is a two round trip protocol, which introduces significant latency in synchronous replication environments. Example embodiments of the present invention overcome these and other deficiencies by using SCSI READ commands from the replication site to the production site instead of using SCSI WRITE commands from the production site to the replication site to decrease latency in a synchronous replication environment. SCSI READ commands are single round trip commands. Thus, the number of round trips required to complete each I/O is reduced from two round trips to one round trip by maintaining at least one SCSI READ command from a SCSI initiator to a SCSI target and then responding to at least one of the at least one SCSI READ command at the SCSI target according to the SCSI READ command.
