  • Patent number: 5222301
Abstract: A cutting head for a cord-type mower driven by an engine is disclosed. The cutting head includes a rotor capable of rotating about an axis and a bobbin with a cord wound on it. The bobbin can rotate relatively to the rotor about the axis in the rotor. The cutting head includes two types of cord feeding systems. The first cord feeding system automatically feeds a cord in response to cord wear. The second cord feeding system feeds a cord in response to a manual tapping operation executed during driving of the cutting head. The second cord feeding system disconnects one of the bobbin and rotor from the engine in response to the tapping operation.

  • Patent number: 5222423
Abstract: An overlap cam for use in a precision sheeting machine for preventing overlap marks on carbonless paper includes a predetermined outer radius, a predetermined relieved area and an outer circumferential surface, all dictated by various sheeter section operating speeds. At least one lobe projects from the relieved area out to the outer predetermined radius. Rotation of the overlap cam will enable the lobe to engage a clip of sheets traveling at high speed at a point displaced a predetermined distance from the leading edge of a clip for preventing compression of active CB and CF together during braking and thereby preventing an overlap mark from being formed on a previously decelerated clip while still performing braking action of a clip of sheets supplied to the overlap section of the sheeter.

  • Patent number: 5222332
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for removing solid material from a workpiece by using a high velocity stream of ice which is caused to impinge on the workpiece. A working liquid, such as water, is supplied at high pressure to a discharge nozzle with an orifice for forming the needle-like stream. The water is cooled before it reaches the nozzle to a temperature below its freezing point so that at least some of the stream is transformed to ice. Optionally, the stream is cooled after it is emitted from the orifice by flowing an envelope of cryogenic gas around the emitted stream.

  • Patent number: 5221036
Abstract: A surgical suturing stapler uses a staple cartridge for containing substantially U-shaped staples, which cartridge can be detachably fitted into a cartridge holder placed between two jaws. The staples can be easily loaded into the staple cartridge by detaching the cartridge from the stapler. When closing the jaws between which the stapler cartridge is placed, the staples in the cartridge are discharged and inserted into bodily tissues or the like to be sutured. By using the staple cartridge magnetized, the staples of metallic material are magnetically retained within the staple cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5220728
Abstract: A blade for a blade exchangeable razor is provided which realizes easy use and smooth haircutting. The razor is adapted to exchangeably support a blade by a blade holder. The blade comprises a thin blade portion having an edge and a back support including side plates for supporting the thin blade portion therebetween and a pair of protrusions formed on the side plates in the longitudinal direction thereof at positions of the side plates close to lower ends of the blade holder. Since the pair of protrusions on the side plates of the back support are located proximal to the lower ends of the blade holder, hair cut by the edge moves away from the blade holder by the action of the protrusions, thereby preventing the cut hair from entering between the back support and the blade holder.

  • Patent number: 5218767
Abstract: A balanced essentially vibration-free hand-grippable fluid powered reciprocating blade cutting tool intended primarily for cutting poultry, fish and meat for processing. The tool includes a hollow handle which functions as a motor housing. Fittings are provided for connecting the housing to a source of fluid under pressure and for exhausting fluid from the housing. A reciprocable cutting blade extends forwardly from the handle. A fluid actuated motor within the handle housing includes a pair of aligned piston assemblies of approximately equal weight. The pistons are reciprocable in opposite directions. The cutting blade is secured to one of these pistons. A control valve and fluid flow passages within the housing and associated with the fluid inlet fitting permits fluid to be directed alternately to the inner and outer sides of the pistons for causing the pistons to alternately move toward one another and away from one another. A manually operable trigger controls the flow of fluid into the housing.

  • Patent number: 5216960
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting slices from a foodstuff has a support, a blade on the support extending perpendicular to and rotatable about an axis, and a table adapted to support the foodstuff to be sliced. The table is reciprocated transversely of the axis past the blade and the foodstuff is synchronously periodically shifted on the table axially toward the blade. A guide rail extends transversely of the axis immediately adjacent the blade and carries a holding arm engageable with the foodstuff on the table and displaceable along the rail in a forward direction to press the foodstuff against the table and in an opposite reverse direction. Interengaging formations on the rail and arm prevent movement of the arm in the reverse direction on the guide rail, and a drive including an electric motor connected to the arm displaces same on the rail in the forward direction and disengages the formations and displaces the arm on the rail in the reverse direction.
