  • Patent number: 5230268
Abstract: Apparatus for cross cutting and/or perforating of a web. The apparatus performs two consecutive partial cuts and, provides for positive guidance of a partially cut web. This is accomplished by first and second cutting blade rollers, arranged with one common counter cylinder and guided by groups of belts passing through breaks in the blades. The breaks of the two blades are laterally offset relative to each other, and the belts are pressed against the counter cylinder to convey the web. This eliminates the need for one counter cylinder and one pair of pull rollers, it decreases the danger of web tear and eliminates the web stretching and the accompanying offset of the two partial cuts.

  • Patent number: 5228376
Abstract: A scroll saw includes a hollow elongated base having a vertical sleeve portion at the rear end portion of the base. A hollow shaft is slidably inserted in the sleeve portion. An L-shaped arm member is fixed to the hollow shaft and has a suspending bracket which hangs over the base. A worktable is horizontally above and has a lengthwise extending elongated slot. A guide screw rod has a first end connected to a hand wheel, and a second end vertically passing through the L-shaped arm member and a horizontal plate fixed to the base. Therefore, the L-shaped arm member can be moved up and down by rotating the hand wheel. Parallel driven and driving levers are respectively pivoted to the suspending bracket and the base. An elongated linking member has a first end pivoted to the driven lever and a second end extending into the hollow shaft. A longitudinal hole is formed near the second end of the linking member and has transverse positioning holes connected to the longitudinal hole.

  • Patent number: 5228668
Abstract: A hand-held jig for confining a bagel, or like object, while it is being sliced by a knife blade and a method of using the jig are disclosed. The jig comprises two identical structures that are joined together by a specialized hinge. The two structures are mirror images of each other and each comprises a circular cage (for loosely surrounding the rim of a bagel) that is attached to the hinge on one side and to a radially extending handle on the opposite side, and clamps in front of the cage for retaining and gripping the bagel and preventing its movement. The hinge is composed of material not injurious to a knife blade when it strikes the hinge, and is so constructed as to be fixed with respect to one of the structures and yet allow rotation of the other structure with respect to the hinge.

  • Patent number: 5226345
Abstract: A saw guide for use with a hand power saw comprising in combination a guiding platform with two generally planar edges which underlie or form two guiding edges for guiding the shoe plate of a hand power saw across a workpiece to make cuts at various angles, and two workpiece guide bars; one guide bar is generally stationary, engaging the end surface of a workpiece to initially align the guide; the other guide bar is slideable, engaging the opposite end surface of a workpiece. The sliding guide bar is releasably clamped in position. Both guide bars work in unison to hold the saw guide in relation to both workpiece edges, allowing the saw guide to slide along the top surface of a workpiece, but not swivel out of position. Two kerf gauges are slideably interlocked at both ends of the stationary guide bar. These gauges measure a cut line along both the top surface and edge surface of a workpiece. These gauges are easily swapped or replaced for use with different power saws, blades or blade tilts.

  • Patent number: 5226571
Abstract: A box dispenser for dispensing rolled-materials is fabricated of single wall corrugated board having a corrugated medium comprising E-flute glued between two facings. The dispenser is provided with a cutting edge. The cutting edge is formed by die-cutting an appropriate edge of the box adjacent to the dispensing opening to form serrations. The cutting edge is reinforced and strengthened by filling the interstitial voids between the two facings and the fluting at the cutting edge with a fast setting glue which adheres to the fluting and facings to provide a rigid, reinforced cutting edge which can resist being crushed or dulled by constant dispensing of the rolled material.

  • Patent number: 5226603
Abstract: The apparatus and its process utilization enables a higher throughput of ore bodies being comminuted, provides a closer or more accurate selection of size of particles or particulates produced, has a low noise level in its operation, and uses its rotor impeller to facilitate the charging-in of ore bodies to be processed, the breaking-up of such bodies, and the delivery of such bodies in the form of sized particles or particulates is introduced by suction peripherally into one of the compartments of a motor-drive impeller and axially into all of the compartments, ore bodies are introduced into all of the compartments and are thrown under centrifugal force from one of the compartments against an anvil. Broken-up bodies of a desired size are fluidized and moved upwardly out of the apparatus while those of a rejected size are returned to the impeller for reprocessing with additional ore bodies being newly introduced therein.

  • Patent number: 5226336
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting at least one end of a surgical suture is described. The apparatus comprises a first pair of feed rollers which advance the surgical suture through a hole (or opening) in a cutting assembly. The first pair of feed rollers is driven by a stepper motor. A second pair of friction rollers take up the slack (i.e., provide tension) to the surgical suture beyond the cutting assembly. The second pair of friction rollers is driven by an electric or stepper motor. The cutting assembly comprises an anvil plate in which the hole is positioned, and a razor blade which is placed in a movable bracket against the anvil plate. The cutting edge of the razor blade is driven by a spring across the hole and cuts the surgical suture. The spring is activated (and can be reactivated for repetitive steps) by an electric motor.

  • Patent number: 5226606
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus for pulverizing empty glass bottles into small fragments of a predetermined maximum size to reduce greatly the storage and handling problems associated in the past with empty bottles. The apparatus comprises a cabinet having a vertical passageway with spaced diaphragms through which bottles are delivered to a pulverizing station where the bottles are smashed into small fragments. The pulverizing station includes a spinning metal pulverizing blade surrounded and partially enclosed by a tapered metal cowl. The spinning blade and cowl together ensure that bottles are pulverized completely and into fragments of at most a predetermined maximum size before being deposited into a receptacle that underlies the pulverizing station. Required storage space and handling time are thus greatly reduced.

Each flap has an end face on an inner peripheral side of the chain body, and at least a part of the flaps having a cutting device at the end face. The apparatus further comprises a plurality of sprockets supporting the chain body in tension, and defining a common plane of cut effected by the combination of the chain body and the sprockets. The chain body is supported by a rigid backplate, of thickness not greater than the thickness of the flaps. It provides a firm support to the rotating chain body to permit sliding movement of the chain body within the common plane of cut.
