  • Patent number: 8982369
Abstract: Methods, systems and processor-readable media for automatically detecting movement of a device in a managed service environment. A device management software module can be configured to monitor a number of devices and retrieve traps from the device. A new Internet Protocol (IP) address with respect to the device on a subnet can be automatically updated by the device management software module if the device has changed location to ensure continual monitoring of the device. A notification indicative of the new IP address with respect to the device that has changed location can be sent to an administrator if the device management software module is not permitted to contact the new IP address. A notification indicative of a new device can also be sent to the administrator to determine if the device should be managed and monitored.

  • Patent number: 8970925
Abstract: A scanner for automatically detecting a scan target includes a transparent scan region configured to support the target, an image sensor including a light source for irradiating light toward the scan region and a light receiving element array for sensing the incident light through the scan region, a drive unit configured to linearly move the sensor across the scan region, and a control unit that controls the sensor and the drive unit. The control unit controls the light source of the sensor and the drive unit such that the sensor moves to a detection position and then the array senses the incident light through the scan region with the light source turned on and off. The control unit compares output signals of the array obtained by turning on and off the light source and automatically determines, based on the comparison, whether the target is placed in the scan region.

  • Patent number: 8947743
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for processing a logical page in parallel with graphics for the sheet that are defined in a job ticket. The system includes multiple parallel Raster Image Processors (RIPs) and a control system. The control system receives print data and a job ticket, identifies a graphic that is associated with a logical page and defined in the job ticket, and transmits the logical page to a parallel RIP for processing. The parallel RIP determines page dimensions from the logical page, transmits the page dimensions, and rasterizes the logical page. The control system determines a location for the graphic based upon the transmitted page dimensions, and directs another RIP to rasterize the graphic in order to generate a rasterized graphic in parallel with the RIP that is rasterizing the logical page.

  • Patent number: 8947690
Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a carriage, a carriage detector, and a control unit. The carriage detector outputs a detection signal of the carriage when the carriage is at the home position, and outputs a non-detection signal of the carriage when the carriage is located closer to a document size reading position than a predetermined position between the home position and the document size reading position. The control unit moves the carriage to the home position when the image reading apparatus enters a sleep mode, keeps the carriage detained while performing initialization after the sleep mode is cancelled, and moves the carriage, upon receipt of a scanning instruction after the initialization is completed, toward the document size reading position in the case where the carriage detector outputs the detection signal of the carriage.
