  • Patent number: 11502542
Abstract: A high performance kilowatt-scale large air-gap multi-modular capacitive wireless power transfer (WPT) system is provided for electric vehicle (EV) charging. In one particular implementation, the multi-modular system achieves high power transfer while maintaining fringing electric fields within prescribed safety limits. The fringing fields are reduced using near-field phased-array field-focusing techniques, wherein the adjacent modules of the multi-modular system are out-phased with respect to one another. The inter-module interactions in this multi-modular system can be modeled, and an approach to eliminate these interactions in a practical EV charging environment is provided. To illustrate one example implementation, a prototype 1.2-kW 6.78-MHz 12-cm air-gap multi-modular capacitive WPT system comprising two 600-W modules is provided. This prototype system achieves 21.2 kW/m2 power transfer density and a peak efficiency of 89.8%.

  • Patent number: 11444484
Abstract: An energy-harvesting generator provides energy for storage in a capacitor. A sensing circuit senses a voltage across the capacitor and generates an activation signal as a function of the sensed voltage. The activation signal switches from a first value to a second value when the sensed voltage reaches an upper threshold and switches from the second value to the first value when the sensed voltage reaches a lower threshold. A signal transmitter powered by stored energy in the capacitor responds to the activation signal being switched to the second value by activating and transmitting a transmission signal. The signal transmitter further responds to the activation signal being switched to the first value by discontinuing transmission of the transmission signal and deactivating. A duration of time elapsing between de-activation and activation of the transmitter is indicative of an amount of energy harvested by the energy-harvesting electric generator.

  • Patent number: 11437843
Abstract: An under-floor charging station can be mounted under a floor such that a top plate of the under-floor charging station is substantially flush with a top surface of the floor without touching the ground. Openings in the top plate allow charging elements to extend when in use to charge a mobile robot, and to retract under the floor when not in use. The retractable charging elements prevent tripping hazards and allow the mobile robot to move freely throughout a clean room. Moreover, because the charging elements can be retracted in an unobtrusive position when the under-floor charging station is not in use, the under-floor charging station is permitted to be positioned in locations in the clean room that allow the mobile robot to continue working while charging and/or allow non-stop running of the mobile robot.
