Abstract: Predicting user actions and preemptively modifying a device in such a way as to make performing those actions easier. More specifically, a dynamic ribbon (DR) which comprises a ribbon whose contents and attributes can be changed dynamically based on anticipated user actions. The anticipated user action is facilitated by modifying the DR according to a preference to make some information available and/or make some action easier to perform.

Abstract: A method of interacting with a user interface displaying content on a display of an electronic device is provided. A zoom gesture is detected to modify a zoom level of the content displayed on the user interface. A momentum or kinetic value for the zoom gesture is determined and a final zoom level based on the determined momentum value of the zoom gesture is determined. The animation of the transition to the final zoom level can be adjusted to display the content on the user interface at the determined final zoom level. The content may be a webpage in a web browser where the zoom gesture is performed on regions within the content. The momentum of the zoom gesture is utilized to determine a desired region and adjust a final zoom level to align the content.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for determining an intended gesture-based input command from an incomplete gesture-based input command that is supplied to a gesture-based touch screen display that includes at least a touch sensitive region includes receiving an incomplete gesture-based input command on the touch sensitive region of the gesture-based touch screen device, the incomplete gesture-based input command including a gesture profile and a gesture direction. Gesture signals that include data representative of the gesture profile and the gesture direction are generated in response to the input command. The gesture signals are processed in a processor to predict the intended gesture-based input command. The intended gesture-based command is retrieved, with the processor, from an electronically stored standard gesture library.

Abstract: Various features are provided for assisting users in efficiently locating and viewing network content of interest, including but not limited to particular portions of web pages. The features are particularly useful for users of mobile computing devices having a limited display size, but may be used with any type of client device. Some features identify popular content items by collectively analyzing the interactive behaviors of a population of users, such as zooming interactions. The results of such analysis can be used in various ways to improve users' browsing experiences. For example, popular content items can be highlighted on a web page, an option to zoom in automatically on popular content items can be provided, popular content items may be rendered at relatively high resolution, and caching of content items may be based partly on a measure of their popularity.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for efficient display of, and navigation through, a large database by displaying and selecting objects, e.g., graphic elements, in a grid associated with the content of the database are provided. The method includes providing a first subset of graphic elements from a database of graphic elements, the first subset of graphic elements arranged in a grid pattern, adjusting a position of one of the graphic elements in the first subset on the display in response to a user input indicating movement of the one graphic element in a horizontal and vertical direction, and providing a second subset of graphic elements from the database of graphic elements, the second subset of graphic elements including the one graphic element in the first subset at the point central on the display.

Abstract: A user interface includes menu items arranged in a flower-like configuration. A number of menu items are peripherally arranged around a central item and mapped to selectable elements of an input device. Then, a display image including the menu is transmitted to a display. Subsequently, in response to a received selection, a corresponding action may be performed such as execution of a task, modification of the display image, and so on. In certain implementations, the menu items may be selected utilizing a cursor. The menu items may include a smaller portion located closer to the central item and a larger portion located further away. In still other implementations, the menu may also include a number of menu items that are not peripherally arranged around the central item. In response to a received selection, the menu items which are peripherally arranged around the central item may be altered.

Abstract: A display input device includes an input unit which receives an operation input, and a display unit which displays a screen for operation input and includes an input result display area for displaying at least a number and a character. When there is an available function for inputting the number and the character, an input button for using the available function is displayed in the input result display area or in an adjacent area of the input result display area, while when there is no available function, the button is not displayed in the input result display area or in the adjacent area of the input result display area.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for displaying help information on a mobile device is provided. The method can include receiving from a mobile device an image of a GUI for a computing application displayed in a separate computer. The method additionally can include determining from the image a subject portion of the computing application and retrieving help information from the computing application corresponding to the subject portion of the computing application. Finally, the method can include returning the help information to the mobile device for display in the mobile device.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to systems and methods providing a flip-though format for viewing notification of messages and related items on devices, for example personal mobile devices such as smart phones. According to an embodiment, an unread item most recently received is shown in full screen on the mobile device. While the user is viewing this item, the device will automatically retrieve and load into a cache memory, the next most recently received item. When the user is done viewing the item most recently received, the user can swipe a finger across the touch screen to trigger a page flipping animation and display of the next most recently received item. Embodiments avoid the user having to click back and forth between a list of notifications/links and corresponding notification items.

Abstract: A method for controlling a food ordering terminal assembly includes dividing a display into first and second display portions. The method includes dividing the second display portion into a plurality of sections including a first section and a second section immediately adjacent the first section. The method includes introducing a first set of food items for selection in the first section. The method includes, in response to selection of one of the first set of the food items, moving the first set of the food items across the second display portion from the first section to the second section such that (i) a second set of food items appears for consideration and selection in the first section, and (ii) in the second section, the first set of the food items remains visible and available for reselection.

Abstract: Provided is a system and method for displaying a graphic on a crew user interface. The system comprises a crew user interface comprising an input and an output, a server accessed by the crew user interface comprising a display application program that retrieves screen configuration data stored in a non-volatile memory of a database connected to the server and an aircraft entertainment system connected to the crew user interface. The output comprises the graphic that is produced during run-time by the application program interpreting the screen configuration data.

Abstract: This disclosure describes a system in which individual employee records can be updated across multiple services by an administrator at the interface to a particular service. Multiple services may be provided with this capability. This will eliminate the need in the current art for a central directory that contains a service description that will be common across all services. The technology eliminates the need for the development of this directory and the training of administrators in its interface. Administrators may utilize their training in one service interface to update records across multiple services. This will enable the more rapid development of solutions utilizing services from multiple vendors. Administrators need not be trained on interfaces for all services but can apply routine global updates from a convenient and familiar interface.

Abstract: A minimized state navigation bar is provided for switching between modules within an expanded communication service such as email, calendar, contacts, tasks, etc. and for presenting preview peeks associated with each module to a user. The minimized state may be selected automatically based on user interface context or user action. A temporary preview of a module may be provided upon a hover action over the icons without actually needing to switch to a module. The preview may also be docked or pinned to a location on the main user interface so that it is displayed within the main user interface. New or interesting activity within each module may be highlighted by displaying an information badge next to an icon, for example.

Abstract: Automatically arranging icons on a user interface is provided. A plurality of icons associated with items are received and displayed on the user interface. An importance score for each icon of the plurality of icons and a similarity score between two or more of the plurality of icons are determined. Further, a user interface coordinate is assigned to at least a portion of the plurality of icons based on the importance and similarity scores. The user interface is then displayed with the at least a portion of the plurality of icons according to the user interface coordinate.

Abstract: A method for providing a User Interface (UI) list in a network by letting a specific terminal, which has an application communicating with a remote server, receive a request for the UI list from an arbitrary terminal; and providing at least one of a UI list provided from the remote server and a UI list included in the specific terminal using the application. The specific terminal may combine the UI list provided from the remote server and the UI list included in the specific terminal to thereby provide the arbitrary terminal with a combined list and the arbitrary terminal may select the desired remote UI through the provided UI list.

Abstract: Embodiments provide for a handheld device with a unified desktop for integrating the functionality of the handheld device with a larger computer system. When connected to a peripheral display and/or a display of the larger computer system, the handheld device provides a unified desktop displayed across the screen(s) of the handheld device and the peripheral display. The unified desktop unifies the functionality provided by the larger computer system and the handheld functionality, e.g., communication applications (e.g., phone, SMS, MMS). A user can seamlessly interact with applications, e.g., open, move, close, receive notifications, on the unified desktop whether the applications are displayed on the screens of the handheld device, or the peripheral display of the larger computer system.
