  • Patent number: 8869062
Abstract: Screen magnification software on a touchscreen device detects when a low-vision user reaches the boundary of a magnified viewport. If additional canvas or menus lay on the other side of the boundary the present invention enables the low-vision user to maintain the same exploration gesture on the touchscreen while causing the underlying canvas to scroll into view in the direction of the gesture. This invention enables the low-vision user to navigate about the entire underlying canvas of a touchscreen graphic user interface with a single, intuitive touchscreen gesture even under magnification.

  • Patent number: 8832582
Abstract: A link curvature processing module enables a user with the ability to control the curvature of links in a node-link diagram. As a node-link diagram is displayed to a user, the user may interact with the diagram and adjust the curvature of one or more links in the diagram to improve the readability of the diagram. The user's modification to the curvature of a link alters the shape of the link so that the position of the nodes connected to the link does not change. By providing the user with such control, the user is able to tailor the visual display of the links to the user's preference.

  • Patent number: 8819566
Abstract: Solutions for providing context-driven communications mode determinations. Some such solutions use a communications hub located in a home (e.g., a user supersystem) to facilitate context-driven, multi-modal communications. For example, a tablet system may be used as a graphical communications hub in a family's home, used by the family to communicate to and from the home via multiple communications modes (e.g., family chat, family activities, user-based messaging, etc.) over one or more communications channels. Determination of an appropriate mode for communications may be driven by contextual (rather that channel-based) factors relating to the communications.

  • Patent number: 8819579
Abstract: A method for opening a file on a virtual desktop for a cloud-based system includes the following steps: The at least one external cloud server does not belong to the cloud-based system. A virtual desktop is provided to a client. The client displays the virtual desktop by a browser. An open-file request for opening a target file is received through the virtual desktop. A corresponding application service, which is utilized for opening the target file, is searched among the external application services. When the target file is an internal file stored in the cloud-based system and the corresponding application service is provided by the at least one external cloud server, the at least one external cloud server is driven to provide the corresponding application service for opening the target file, and the opened target file is displayed on the virtual desktop of the client.

  • Patent number: 8782552
Abstract: The present invention is directed in general to imaging technologies and more particularly to medical imaging and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) having an image display wherein system features and functions are provided to a user via active overlays located over displayed images. A system and method are provided to imbed an ability to interact with an image by activating traditional annotations that are displayed in conjunction with an image in a PACS. Users are able to access program functionalities in an improved, quicker, accurate and more intuitive means. More specifically, the present invention relates to providing the capability to customize multiple context menus, and flatten the command hierarchy of an imaging system. The present invention also provides the ability to “overload” current text and graphic annotations that are already displayed within an image of interest.

  • Patent number: 8782522
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a video display device includes a menu screen display module. The menu screen display module displays a menu screen. The menu screen includes at least two hierarchical levels. A higher hierarchical level includes a first group formed by arranging select elements representing classifications of various functions related to video image displaying. A lower hierarchical level includes a second group formed by arranging select elements representing the functions. Upon receipt of a signal from a direct key to which one of the classifications represented by the select elements of the higher hierarchical level is assigned, the menu screen display module displays the menu screen in a state in which one of the select elements is selected. Here, the one of the select elements represents the one of the classifications to which the direct key is assigned, and the operation device includes the direct key.

  • Patent number: 8667411
Abstract: A copy and paste operation allows selection from a copy source display area to be copied from a display screen of a display unit and pasted to a paste destination display area without losing the original appearance and style. A processing unit determines from data generated on the style of a copy source and data on the paste destination style, whether the paste destination style would change the copy source style. If it is determined that the paste destination style would change the copy source style, the copy source style is processed into the paste destination style in order to make the paste destination style consistent with the copy source style. The paste destination display area then displays the copy source display area pasted therein with the copy source style.
