  • Patent number: 9277271
Abstract: An antenna for broadcast television programming includes a tuner and demodulator located with the antenna to generate a demodulated television program stream. A network interface is connected to the tuner and demodulator to provide the television program stream to a network, preferably a wireless network. A television set located remotely from the antenna receives the television program stream via the network and displays the program. A portable control device may be connected to the network. Reception of the broadcast programming is improved by controlling the directionality of the antenna in response to the demodulated signal. A service provider may poll the wireless network antenna to determine which broadcast programs are received and may provide extended programming television programs to the user by an internet connection to the user's network.

  • Patent number: 9113187
Abstract: Techniques for adding WiFi capabilities to a region may include installing WiFi access points in a cable television (CATV) system. For easier installation of the WiFi access points, a WiFi access point extension devices may be integrated into existing taps in the CATV system. The WiFi extended taps are able to provide radio frequency (RF)/CATV signals to subscribers, provide power to the respectively integrated WiFi access point, and maintain power to the coaxial transmission line during installation. During installation, the WiFi access point extension devices can be integrated into the CATV outdoor distribution plant without having to splice into an existing coaxial transmission line. The multiplicity of existing tap locations in CATV distribution plants makes the positioning of new wireless access points extremely versatile for the cable provider.

  • Patent number: 9098699
Abstract: A technique shares smart television data among subscribing organizations to provide security. The technique involves collecting, by an electronic server apparatus, data elements from multiple smart television devices. The technique further involves performing, by the electronic server apparatus, a set of risk analysis operations to generate risk scores corresponding to the multiple smart television devices. Each risk score (e.g., a numerical value) indicates an amount of risk (e.g., a probability) that a respective smart television device is malicious. The technique further involves providing, by the electronic server apparatus, an ordered list of the multiple smart television devices, the ordered list ranking the multiple television devices based on the risk scores. Information from the ordered list is well suited for use by an anti-fraud service in which subscriber organizations are informed of the information and use the information to identify and stop fraudulent activity in the future.
