Publication number: 20130256751Abstract: A method of producing semiconductor materials and devices that incorporate the semiconductor materials are provided. In particular, a method is provided of producing a semiconductor material, such as a III-V semiconductor, on a spinel substrate using a sacrificial buffer layer, and devices such as photovoltaic cells that incorporate the semiconductor materials. The sacrificial buffer material and semiconductor materials may be deposited using lattice-matching epitaxy or coincident site lattice-matching epitaxy, resulting in a close degree of lattice matching between the substrate material and deposited material for a wide variety of material compositions. The sacrificial buffer layer may be dissolved using an epitaxial liftoff technique in order to separate the semiconductor device from the spinel substrate, and the spinel substrate may be reused in the subsequent fabrication of other semiconductor devices.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2010Publication date: October 3, 2013Applicant: ALLIANCE FOR SUSTAINABLE ENERGY, LLCInventors: Aaron Joseph Ptak, Yong Lin, Andrew Norman, Kirstin Alberi

Patent number: 8510148Abstract: Systems and techniques for entry and presentation of project planning information, showing activities in their geographic context. Information relating to activities and groupings of activities is entered, updated and presented. Information associated with one or more groupings of activities is associated with a graphical icon, with the appearance of the icon changing in response to changes in the associated information. The icon is placed in a graphical display, with the graphical display showing geographic information, such as a map, and the icon being placed in a map location showing the location of the activities associated with the icon. The graphical display maintains links to the information associated with the icon so that updating the information changes the appearance of the icon, calling attention to changes in their geographic context.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2005Date of Patent: August 13, 2013Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventor: Timothy Andrew Norman

Patent number: 8381214Abstract: Briefly, aspects of the subject matter described herein relate to job submission. In aspects, a client (which itself may be a scheduler) sends a request to a scheduler to execute a job. The client may indicate which extensions to a base job submission protocol the client supports. The scheduler may implement a base case protocol and may also implement extensions to the base case. The client and scheduler may communicate information and requests about a job based on extensions both support, if any. The scheduler maintains state information about executing jobs that may include substate information without affecting interoperability with clients that do not recognize substates. A job may be in multiple substates at the same time.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2007Date of Patent: February 19, 2013Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Marvin Michael Theimer, Christopher Andrew Norman Smith

Patent number: 8239536Abstract: A service controller for providing centralized service management, control and placement, as well as guaranteed failover, in a dynamic and distributed computing environment. The service controller works in conjunction with a computing resource supply manager, which supplies the required resources so that the service controller can run the service on the allocated resources. The number of active service instances may dynamically increase or decrease in accordance with changing availability of or demand for resources. The service controller monitors the service instances and takes appropriate action in the event of service instance failures. The service controller is provided with a service director component, which records and tracks, for each service instance which has been started on a particular resource/host, the IP address of such host, through a name location service, thus allowing end-users to locate the service regardless of where the service instances are physically running.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2007Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignee: Platform Computing CorporationInventors: Qi Wang, Khalid Ahmed, Leo Stutzmann, Christopher Andrew Norman Smith
