  • Patent number: 7444857
Abstract: A method and apparatus for scanning multiple scanning probe microscopes in close proximity, to scan overlapping scan areas at the same time while avoiding collision employs a control system providing drive signals to a first Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) and calculated drive signals to additional AFMs based on the first drive signals and the relative position of the additional AFMs to the first AFM for consistent spaced motion. Scanning and Failure Analysis (FA) probing of multiple feature of interest using multiple APMs allows for reduced time for locating FA features to set up measurements.

  • Publication number: 20080243993
Abstract: A service controller for providing centralized service management, control and placement, as well as guaranteed failover, in a dynamic and distributed computing environment. The service controller works in conjunction with a computing resource supply manager, which supplies the required resources so that the service controller can run the service on the allocated resources. The number of active service instances may dynamically increase or decrease in accordance with changing availability of or demand for resources. The service controller monitors the service instances and takes appropriate action in the event of service instance failures. The service controller is provided with a service director component, which records and tracks, for each service instance which has been started on a particular resource/host, the IP address of such host, through a name location service, thus allowing end-users to locate the service regardless of where the service instances are physically running.

  • Patent number: 7422245
Abstract: An assembly is provided for attaching a clamp to a hose. The assembly includes a hose, a clamp, a cover bracket and an adhesive. The clamp includes a band and a screw housing mounted to the band with a screw disposed in the screw housing. The screw engages the band to tighten the band and draw the band around the hose. The cover bracket has an opening for receiving the screw housing. The cover bracket includes a cover portion for the screw housing and a base portion extending from the cover portion. The base portion includes a bonding surface for attaching the cover bracket to the hose and a channel located between the bonding surface and the band. The adhesive is applied to the bonding surface such that the cover bracket is adhered to the hose without interfering with the clamp operation.

  • Publication number: 20080210349
Abstract: An AA2000-series alloy including 2 to 5.5% Cu, 0.5 to 2% Mg, at most 1% Mn, Fe <0.25%, Si >0.10 to 0.35%, and a method of manufacturing these aluminum alloy products. More particularly, disclosed are aluminum wrought products in relatively thick gauges, i.e. about 30 to 300 mm thick. While typically practiced on rolled plate product forms, this method may also find use with manufacturing extrusions or forged product shapes. Representative structural component parts made from the alloy product include integral spar members, and the like, which are machined from thick wrought sections, including rolled plate.

  • Patent number: 7415868
Abstract: The present invention comprises an apparatus and a method for using multiple scanning probes to deconvolve tip artifacts in scanning probe microscopes and other scanning probe systems. The invention uses multiple scanning probe tips of different geometries or orientations to scan a feature, such as a semiconductor line or trench, and to display the scan data such that tip artifacts from each tip can be omitted from the measurement by data from the other tips.

  • Publication number: 20080104233
Abstract: A networked computing platform implements an opportunistic data communication method. The computing platform creates, at the instigation of at least one application executing on the platform, data packets for transmission over a network. The packets are created using a hierarchy of programs (‘stack’) implementing a corresponding hierarchical suite of network protocols each associated with a corresponding protocol data unit (PDU) that comprises protocol-control information for that protocol. The opportunistic communication method involves the platform waiting for creation of a packet to be instigated and thereupon setting a parameter in protocol-control information of the packet to a value indicative of a characteristic of the computing platform, this characteristic being one unconnected with functioning of the network protocols. A network monitoring method and a network administration method are also disclosed.
