Abstract: Method and arrangement in a notification server (100) for providing data of a presentity to a watcher (104). In this method, the notification server receives (1:1) published data from multiple sources (102) associated with the presentity. The notification server further selects (1:2) a composition policy from a set of predefined composition policies (100a) based on information regarding the watcher, and composes (1:3) a notification by applying the selected composition policy to the received data. The notification is then sent (1:4) to the watcher. In this way, it is possible to avoid any conflicting and/or overlapping data in the notification.

Abstract: A method and arrangement for temporarily withholding notifications with client data of at least one observed client to a watching client when the watching client has an ongoing subscription for receiving the notifications from a client data server. When the watching client receives a subscription suspend trigger, the watching client sends a subscription suspend message to the client data server indicating that client data notifications should be temporarily withheld while retaining the subscription. When the watching client subsequently receives a subscription resume trigger, the watching client sends a subscription resume message to the client data server indicating that the suspended subscription shall be resumed and allowing client data notifications to be delivered again. The watching client then subsequently receives client data notifications according to the subscription.

Abstract: The invention provides a method of authorizing provision of in-directed content to a user of an IPcommunications network. The in-directed content is associated with a presentity subscriber of a presence service, the presence service including authorization rules regarding users to which the in-directed content may be provided. The in-directed content is stored at a content server that is not controlled by the presence service. The method includes receiving at an authorization proxy in the network a request from the user to be provided with the in-directed content, and identifying the presentity subscriber associated with the requested in-directed content. The authorization proxy retrieves the authorization rules to verify that the user is authorized to receive the in-directed content. Subject to the verification, the in-directed content is provided from the content server the user.

Abstract: For allowing differentiated handling of network traffic, a message is received by a traffic type detector. The traffic type detector extracts a network label, e.g. a domain name, a hostname, or a network address, from the message and compares this extracted network label to one or more stored network labels. On the basis of the comparison, adaptation of a quality of service level for a forwarding treatment of data packets associated with the message is initiated, e.g. by controlling a bearer used for communicating the data packets.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for providing notification data, e.g. in a presence service, referring to a plurality of presentities (B1, B2, B3) to a plurality of watchers (A1, A2, A3) in a communication network. A first notification service manager (300a) operating for a notification server (300) buffers (3:3) multiple watcher specific notifications and sends (3:5) a single joint notification containing the buffered notifications to a second notification service manager (302a) e.g. operating for an RLS entity (302). The second notification service manager (302a) then splits (3:6) the joint notification into the original multiple watcher specific notifications, and sends (3:7) them individually towards respective watchers. Thereby, transmission of numerous individual notifications from one or more notification servers to, e.g. one or more RLS entities can be avoided.

Abstract: Presented are methods and apparatus for optimizing access to service capabilities information for clients associated with user in a communication system. Communications requesting service capabilities information is directed through one or more capabilities application servers for inspection before forwarding the requests to their destination user's client device. If the capabilities application server has previously stored the information then the reply is generated from information stored on the capabilities application server and no request is forwarded to the user's client device, optimizing the process by reducing network communications.

Abstract: A method of delivering information from a Notifying node of a SIP/IMS network to a Watcher Client, via an intermediate Watcher Proxy. A connection is established between the Watcher Proxy and the Watcher Client, using a SIP session, wherein the established connection is used for forwarding a request for a SIP subscription to the Watcher Proxy as an embedded SIP subscribe message. Once a backend SIP subscription has been setup between the Watcher Proxy and the Notifying node, SIP notify messages delivered from the Notifying node will be forwarded from the Watcher Proxy to the Watcher Client via the established connection, thereby separating SIP subscribe traffic from SIP control traffic.

Abstract: A method and arrangement for authorizing an initially unauthorized watching client to receive client data of an observed client from a client data server. The watching client sends an expanded request for client data to the server. The expanded request contains additional information such as a text string, a picture, or a video/audio clip. The server extracts the additional information and sends it to the observed client. The observed client can then decide whether to authorize the watching client to receive the observed client's data based on the additional information.

Abstract: Requests between first and second IMS network domains are communicated by receiving an XDM request in the first domain. The XDM request relates to an XML document that can be accessed via the XDM request from a location in the second domain. A SIP request is created that includes information identifying it as a request that relates to an XDM request. The SIP request is sent to the second domain so that the SIP request can be routed to the location in the second domain based on the identifying information in the SIP request. A connection for XDM requests between the first and second domains is established.

Abstract: A server, computer readable medium and method for accessing buddy data related to a first user (presentity) that is connected to a START communication network that includes a server, the data being accessed by a second user (watcher) connected to the communication network. The method including storing, at a server, information associated with a plurality of users associated with the presentity as the buddy data, receiving, at the server, a request from a watcher for buddy data of the presentity, authorizing, at least in part by the server, the request for buddy data, and transmitting, by the server, the buddy information to the watcher.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include a system and method for implementing a presence system. According to an embodiment of the present invention, responsive to receiving a request for presence information associated with a presentity from a watcher, the presence system receives instructions indicating that an authorization instance other than the presentity shall be given an opportunity to change or verify an authorization rule associated with the request for presence information. As a consequence, the presence system notifies the authorization instance of the request for presence information, thereby enabling the authorization instance to change or verify the authorization rule. The presence system also makes a final decision on the authorization rule on the basis of the instructions and a notification indicating a change or verification of the authorization rule.

Abstract: A method in a communication network for providing user traffic statistics on user traffic generated in the communication network is provided, wherein statistics involving a subscribing user being registered to one or more clients one or more other clients is considered. User traffic data being received from a traffic intercepting unit and if any associated data is already stored this data is aggregated with the received data, such that user traffic associated with any client of the subscriber is aggregated. The aggregated and/or received data is then processed on the basis of pre-defined processing criteria, such that updated user traffic statistics on traffic associated with the subscriber is obtained, after which the processed data is stored, such that subsequent distribution of updated traffic statistics can be provided.

Abstract: A method can be executed at a notifier of a communication system for the purpose of handling notifications, at least partly according to a notification scheme. The basis of the method is to provisioning for a differentiated distribution rate to be applied together with the notification scheme when distributing notifications which have been received from a notification source function and which are associated with the subscriber. The provisioning is based on user traffic statistics on traffic involving a registered subscriber, and which has been generated in the communication network, and where the statistics has been acquired from a statistics server and accumulated by the notifier.

Abstract: A method and arrangement for handling a service request in a session control unit in a multimedia network. Upon receiving the service request from a user equipment, the session control unit checks a service profile associated with a user-identity of the service request in order to find an application server to which the service request is to be routed. Prior to routing the service request, an ensuring entity ensures the service request will include a primary user-identity. In the application server, the primary user-identity is used to find stored data, which is necessary for executing the requested service.

Abstract: Systems and methods for publishing presence information can be performed to reduce the amount of signaling associated with presence publication. A method for publishing presence service information to a presence server includes: receiving, at a registrar node, a session initiation protocol (SIP) message originated by a user equipment (UE) over the air interface; and transmitting a third party register message based upon the received SIP message, from the registrar node, toward a presence server using network signaling, wherein the third party register message includes at least one of information associated with the user of the UE, capabilities of the UE and presence related services offered by the UE.

Abstract: An arrangement and method for reducing memory usage for communications between servers in a communication network utilizing the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) by controlling establishment of SIP-Tunnels. A single SIP-Tunnel for a certain event package is utilized for multiple subscriptions between one instance of a requesting server such as a Resource List Server (RLS) and one instance of an Application Server such as, for example, a Presence Server. The SIP-Tunnel is then used to send all SIP NOTIFY messages between these two entities to reduce memory usage at both ends by removing the overhead created by SIP.

Abstract: Presented are methods and apparatus for obtaining event notifications by a client. A notification gateway server collects event notifications from a plurality of application servers and provides them to the client through outstanding event requests. The client initializes the notification gateway server for establishing a notification channel between the client and the notification gateway server. The client then uses at least one notification request, such as an HTTP long polling request, to collect the event notifications from the notification gateway server. The client sends another notification request to the notification server each time event notifications are received.

Abstract: A method, a server and a client for enabling time limited modifications of XML nodes in XML documents, where a modified document can be restored to its original content upon expiry of an expire time, which has been specified for the modification, are provided. A request for a time limited modification of an XML node, including an expire time, is transmitted from a client to a server. At the server, a timer is either started, in case no timer is pending for the XML node, or re-set, in case a timer is already pending for the XML node. The present version of the XML node is stored, before it is modified, according to modification data provided in the request. Upon timer timeout the requested modification will no longer be valid, and therefore the XML node is restored to its stored version of the XML node.

Abstract: A method of handling the delivery of push messages from a notification server of a Session Initiation Protocol based network to a network user. The method comprises signalling to said notification server the start of a Session Initiation Protocol session and the end of a Session Initiation Protocol session, and deferring the delivery of some or all push messages, scheduled for delivery to said user during the ongoing session, until the session has finished.

Abstract: Systems and methods for reactively authorizing publication of information by a third party are coordinated through the use of a presence server. The presence server communicates with other communication nodes/devices to determine and relay publication information. Publication requests that are initially unauthorized, from the perspective of the presence server, are resolved.
