  • Patent number: 8113211
Abstract: A cigarette filter assembly comprises a hollow paper tube with a spaced apart solid fiber plugs inside the tube together with granular filter material in the spaces between the plugs. Energy activated adhesive is only between the solid filter plugs and interior surface portions of the tube. After the spaced apart solid fiber plugs are within the tube the adhesive is activated to secure the plugs to the tube. The energy activated adhesive is only on selected portions of the hollow tube where the solid fiber plugs are located or alternatively the adhesive is only on the exterior surface portions of the solid fiber plugs.

  • Patent number: 7975877
Abstract: A bead feeder for serially delivering beads to a downstream location comprises a bead supply wheel which rotates about a vertical axis. The bead supply wheel includes a bead supply bowl and a plurality of radially arranged channels below the bowl connected to rotate with the bowl. Discharge openings in the bowl are in alignment with the radially arranged channels to delivery beads to those channels, and a bead receiving pocket is positioned at the outer end of each channel. A transfer wheel picks up beads from the bead receiving pockets and transfers those beads to a delivery wheel by vacuum transfer and release. The delivery wheel serially delivers the beads to the downstream location.

  • Publication number: 20100210437
Abstract: Process and apparatus for the mass production of compound cigarette filters function to deposit granular filter material into the open ends of vertically oriented filter tubes. Predetermined amounts of diverse granular material are withdrawn by suction from sources of such material, and these amounts are deposited into the tubes. Solid filter segments seal the granular material within the tube. After one half of each filter tube is filled with granular material and sealed, the tube is inverted and the opposite end is filled in substantially the same manner. When cut in half each filter tube produces two cigarette filters.

  • Patent number: 7686162
Abstract: A generally flat carton blank is arranged for assembly into a carton shape holding multiple cigarette packs. The carton blank has a defined periphery, and a generally flat promotional sheet overlies the carton blank within the outer periphery thereof. A portion of the promotional sheet is adhesively secured to the carton blank. In another embodiment a generally flat promotional sheet overlies the carton blank essentially within the outer periphery thereof. Both carton blank each with its associated promotional sheet may then be assembled and loaded with cigarette packs utilizing standard assembly machinery and standard procedures. Fold lines on the carton blank and the promotional sheet facilitate assembly of the carton blank into a carton shape with the promotional sheet inside the assembled carton.

  • Patent number: 7174938
Abstract: A machine for folding and applying onserts onto consumer goods such as cigarette packs comprises a continuous roll of preprinted onserts and a transverse cutter assembly for cutting onsert segments from the continuous roll. Each onsert segment includes a pair of side-by-side preprinted onserts. A buckle folder receives each cut onsert segment and folds that segment along at least one transverse fold line. A longitudinal cutter assembly longitudinally cuts each folded onsert segment into two individual onserts. A transport system serially receives the individual folded onserts and moves the onserts along dual diverging paths where a pair of spaced apart lug belt conveyors receives the onserts from the discharge end of the transport system. Each lug belt conveyor includes spaced apart transverse lugs along the length thereof against which the onserts are positioned.

  • Patent number: 4678452
Abstract: A lubricant free low cost overload release clutch having a spring housing with an integral hub, a detector ring containing fixed detent bullets for engagement with springs in the housing on one side, and a bullet detent housing on the other side, together with spider cushion and shaft housing engaged for rotary turning with the bullet detent housing in response to the rotation of a shaft in the shaft housing. The release clutch responds to preset torque limits determined by spring tension. After a disengagement caused by excess torque, the clutch will reset by further rotation of the detent housing.

  • Patent number: 4367101
Abstract: A process of providing an inorganic anti-stick coating directly on non-oriented, semi-processed electrical steels by applying to such steels a coating solution containing Al.sup.+++, Mg.sup.++, and H.sub.2 PO.sub.4.sup.- in a specified relative relationship, the concentration of Al.sup.+++, Mg.sup.++, and H.sub.2 PO.sub.4.sup.- comprising 100 parts by weight calculated as Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, MgO and H.sub.3 PO.sub.4, respectively, on a water-free basis. The coating solution may additionally contain from 0 to 150 parts by weight of colloidal silica on a water-free basis. Chromic anhydride (C.sub.r O.sub.3) may be added to the coating solution to improve its wettability and improve the moisture resistance of the anti-stick coating. The coating solution is so diluted with water as to provide a uniform coating as thin as possible to prevent lamination sticking and having a coating weight of less than 2 grams per square meter on each side.

  • Patent number: 4292671
Abstract: A new and improved computing apparatus for determining aircraft altitude has a pressure transducer to sense atmospheric pressure at which the aircraft is located, and from this and a preset local ground level atmospheric pressure reading, actually solve a non-linear altitude-pressure equation. The computed altitude is used in conjunction with a time measurement to determine aircraft vertical rate. The computed altitude also specifies an address in a memory circuit, with the data stored at such address being the grey code which is transmitted to others for air traffic control purposes.
