    Abstract: An example method provides a method of determining access times and channels for a wireless communication device. The time offset represents a difference in time between the UE receiving a reference signal transmitted by a macro cell and the UE receiving the pilot signal transmitted by the small cell. The small cell adjusts a local reference timing based on the second training signal.

The content adapter transmits a signal instructing the base station to allocate the service identifier to the first user equipment for receiving the unicast service concurrently with the second user equipment. A base station allocates the service identifier to the first user equipment in response to the first user equipment requesting a unicast service that the base station is already providing to a second user equipment using the service identifier. The base station transmits content for the unicast service for reception by the first and second user equipment based on the service identifier.

The registering includes establishing a triggering mechanism that detects when a trigger event occurs, such that when the trigger event occurs, the MTC device transmits the at least one MTC device transmission on the assigned at least one resource block. The registering includes configuring the network element to receive the at least one MTC device transmission based on the assigned resource block and the established triggering mechanism. The method includes allowing the MTC device to transmit the at least one MTC device transmission over the resource block that is assigned during the registration.

    Abstract: For applications with very small data activities, connection of a UE to a wireless network for sending or receiving such small data traffic increments via conventional connection set-up processes is quite inefficient in terms of spectral resource utilization. The invention provides a new connectionless methodology for transmission of such small data increments between a UE and a serving eNB. In particular, the invention methodology contemplates identifying a set of preamble sequences among the pool of preamble sequences provided for access requests from a UE to an eNB via the Random Access Channel as corresponding to a request from the UE for access to transmit an increment of data smaller than a predetermined threshold data size. When a UE has data traffic to transmit of a size smaller than the predetermined threshold size, it selects one of the preamble sequences in the identified set and sends an access request, using the selected preamble sequence, to a serving eNB via the Random Access Channel.

    Abstract: In a 3G cellular network, a Reverse Link Channel Quality Indicator Channel (R-CQICH) may be transmitted on a reverse link to support forward link high-speed data transmissions. Accordingly, the R-CQICH may be utilized to track the quality of the signal path between the wireless unit and the base station. The base station may include a CQI component that utilizes a received Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) signal from the wireless unit to generate CQI quality metrics based on the quality of the received signal. Also, the CQI quality metrics may be compared to different thresholds to adjust various system configurations in the base station. The base station may also provide feedback to the wireless unit with the updated system configurations. This technique allows CQI quality metrics to be utilized to adjust system configurations dynamically and enhance the operation of a wireless system.
