First, an entry for desired content from among real play lists is added to a virtual play list. In the virtual play list, a playback content editing operation is performed. The process of editing a virtual play list that does not contain content of an entity involves non-destructive editing that does not accompany editing of the content of an entity. In addition, non-destructive editing of a virtual play list only requires the updating of a management information file, and only involves an increase in the used amount of the recording medium by the additional amount of the management information even if a playback section is copied, thus improving user convenience.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a controller for controlling data recording to an information recording medium. The controller executes a state determination process of determining whether the information recording medium is ready to record additionally data. An evaluation value calculating section calculates an evaluation value at a dividing candidate position of the stream data based on an evaluation function. A comparing section compares the evaluation value calculated by the evaluation value calculating section with a predetermined threshold value. A dividing candidate position obtaining section obtains the dividing candidate position of the stream data in each predetermined unit. A controlling section decides a dividing position of the stream data based on a compared result of the comparing section. A controlling section causes the dividing candidate position obtaining section to obtain a second dividing candidate position when the compared result of the comparing section denotes that the evaluation value at the first dividing candidate position does not exceed the threshold value.

When their recording is started, EP entry information contained in management information of the stream file is created. Whenever EP entry information is created, it is written to a nonvolatile memory. After their recording is stopped, fixed value information and so forth that are contained in the management information are created and written to the nonvolatile memory. According to a disc eject operation, the management information written to the nonvolatile memory is written to the disc and the contents stored in the nonvolatile memory are cleared. Likewise, when power is turned off without the eject operation, information stored in the nonvolatile memory is written to the disc.

Abstract: A data recording and reproducing configuration in which both of BDMV standard compliant data and BDMV standard non-compliant data can be used is realized. A plurality of directories are set in a recording media, and a recording destination directory is selected according to the types of data. The BDMV standard compliant data is recorded in a BDMV directory, and the BDMV standard non-compliant data, for example, 1080/60p or 3D image data are recorded in a BDAV or BU directory. At the time of data reproducing process, a virtual file system in which the recorded data in the BDMV directory and the recorded data in the BDAV/BU directory are consolidated is constructed to achieve the reproducing process. With this configuration, the recording and reproducing of the BDMV standard compliant data and the BDMV standard non-compliant data are achieved.

Abstract: A data recording structure supporting an AVCHD format is provided. The data recording structure allows a playing process, an editing process and a write-once recording process to be quickly performed. When data recording is performed in a data recording format having a layered management structure such as an AVCHD format, identification information is stored in an index file containing index information for record data. The identification information is needed to perform one of the playing process on the record data, the editing process on the record data and the write-once recording process on data. This arrangement eliminates the need for reading a variety of files and retrieving information when one of the record data playing process, the record data editing process and the write-once recording process is performed. Each process is thus quickly performed.

When the file size exceeds 2 GB with the next packet that is recorded, record control is performed such that the time of the last end of audio data of the current file matches the time of the beginning of audio data of the next file to which the stream is recorded, the current file is closed, and seamless connection that denotes that the closed file and the next file to which the stream is recorded are connected such that audio data do not overlap is set. A file is newly created and the stream is continuously recorded thereto. The recording of the file is stopped according to a stop operation. When the recording is performed for a long time, a file is automatically divided.

Abstract: A method for initializing a recording medium on which data is recorded in compliance with the AVCHD standard is proposed. Under a root directory of partitions, an ICB and FIDs for each directory contained in a directory structure defined by the AVCHD standard are recorded with consideration of information on child directories. Thereafter, an SBD and a metadata bitmap file are recorded in a partition and also, an LVIS is recorded on the basis of information, such as the number of sectors used as a result of recording the ICBs and the FIDs of all the directories and the total number of directories.
