Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes an encoding and decoding unit for performing a data conversion process by decoding encoded still image data acquired from an information recording medium and generating moving image encoded data based on the decoded still image data, a medium control unit for performing a data re-recording process by recording the moving image encoded data, generated by the encoding and decoding unit, on the information recording medium in a predetermined data recording format, and a controller for controlling the data conversion process of the encoding and decoding unit and the data re-recording process of the medium control unit. The controller controls the data conversion process and the data re-recording process in response to user input information as to whether to execute the data conversion process.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for quickly starting recording seamless-playable data are provided. At the end of recording a preceding record content, identification information of a clip information file for a subsequent record content to be recorded next is recorded in an attribute information storage file set for the preceding record content. More specifically, a clip information file for a subsequent chapter is reserved at the end of recording of a preceding chapter, and an identifier of the clip information file is recorded in the clip information file for the preceding record chapter. Through the prior reservation process of the clip information file, an updating process for updating the clip information file at the start of recording of the subsequent chapter becomes unnecessary. Data recording, such as a photographing operation of a video camera is thus quickly started.

Abstract: A stream on a recording medium is divided into parts, and is subjected to rearrangement editing while the compatibility with a playback-only device is maintained. By adopting a division processing procedure of a play item, rearrangement processing of a stream for each chapter is achieved. In a product specification, a plurality of real play lists are put together into a series of chapter groups to be presented to the user, and thus there are cases where rearrangement of chapters are closed in the same play list, and cases where the rearrangement extends over a plurality of play lists. Moreover, rearrangement editing, which moves a chapter between real play lists, between virtual play lists, and further from a real play list to a virtual play list, is performed.

When a disc from which a title was deleted by a recorder A that stores the order of which titles were recorded, but not file numbers is loaded into a recorder B that stores title numbers, the recorder B rewrites the title number of the index based on information title_id_ref. A play list corresponding to a title that was deleted and its number was unused and an object that references the play list are created and a title that calls the object is registered to the index. Thus, the recorder A and the recorder B can have compatibility with respect to editing a title.

Abstract: An editing process is to be properly performed for video data that have been compression-encoded using inter-frame compression. Identification information that identifies a device that has recorded the stream file is extracted from the stream file that stores the video stream to be edited. When the extracted identification information represents a device that can encode the video stream with the same attribute as an attribute that the encoder of the editing apparatus can handle, an editing process is performed on the basis of a technique of decoding only a necessarily minimum region and re-encoding it. Otherwise, the editing process is performed on the basis of a technique of encoding all a video stream to be edited and re-encoding it. It can be determined whether or not the encoding process on the basis of the technique of decoding only a necessarily minimum region can be performed on the basis of only predetermined identification information contained in the video stream.

Abstract: A configuration in which a reproducing process is enabled by constructing a virtual file system without using a local memory is realized. At the time of data reproducing process from a medium having BDMV standard compliant data in the BDMV directory and BDMV standard non-compliant data, for example, the 1080/60p or the 3D image data, are subject to the reproducing process by constructing the virtual file system in which the virtual file name corresponding to the data recorded in the BDAV or BU directory without performing the data transfer to the local memory at the time of data reproducing process from the media having a plurality of directories recorded in the BDAV or BU directories. With this configuration, the recording and reproducing of the BDMV standard compliant data and the BDMV standard non-compliant data can be performed without performing the data transfer to the local memory.

Abstract: Provided are a device and a method for identifying whether or not an information recording medium is a pre-formatted disc, and an information recording medium as a pre-formatted disc. In an information processing device that executes recording of data onto a disc, such as a video camera, a process of identifying which one of the following discs a loaded disc is, that is, whether the loaded disc is (a) an unrecorded blank disc, (b) a pre-formatted disc to which a padding process has been applied, or (c) an already-recorded disc, is executed as a process of recognizing the loaded disc. With this configuration, a padding process that needs to be executed during a formatting process or finalizing process in conventional devices becomes unnecessary, thus enabling quick processing without making the user wait during the start of recording or finalizing process.

Abstract: A data recording and reproducing configuration in which both of BDMV standard compliant data and BDMV standard non-compliant data can be used is realized. A plurality of directories are set in a recording media, and a recording destination directory is selected according to the types of data.
