  • Publication number: 20070253815
Abstract: An internal fluid cooling system for a gas turbine aerofoil (2) comprises a plurality of multi-pass cooling arrangements each of which consists of a serpentine passage (50,52,54 & 48,56,58) in the interior of the aerofoil (2). The cooling fluid—in particular air—is supplied to an inlet end (22,24) of each passage (50,52,54 & 48,56,58) and exhausted through a multiplicity of discharge holes (60,62,64,68) to provide tip, leading edge, trailing edge and surface film cooling. The inlet end (22) of a first serpentine passage (50,52,54) is positioned close to the leading edge (26) and flows rearwards while the inlet end (24) of the second serpentine passage (48,56,58) is positioned close to the trailing edge (28) and flows forwards.

  • Publication number: 20070207684
Abstract: Disclosed is a device that protects inboard/outboard motors (up to 250 horsepower) from damage and simultaneously provides an underwater hydrofoil that both helps prevent inboard/outboard motor damage and is specifically designed to improve the efficiency of an outboard motor and the speed and ride of a boat. In one embodiment, an underwater hydrofoil, skeg enclosure, skeg protector and lower-unit protector are combined into a single unit that protects the skeg, the propeller and the lower unit of an inboard/outboard motor while simultaneously improving the efficiency of an inboard/outboard motor and the speed and riding qualities of a boat using that inboard/outboard motor.

  • Publication number: 20070031252
Abstract: A component comprises a multiplicity of cooling passages arranged in two intersecting arrays to form a multiplicity of cooling passage intersections. Air jet interactions are generated at cooling passage intersections when air is passed through the cooling passages. The spacing of the passages in at least one of the arrays is chosen to provide a predetermined range of intersection density in a selected region or regions of the component.

  • Publication number: 20070001061
Abstract: A pipe holder comprises a handle and a slant piece. The slant piece includes a handle attachment point, a mouth, and a support point. A centerline runs through the mouth and support point. The handle attachment point resides between the mouth and support point, and is configured to point the handle approximately orthogonal to the slant piece centerline. The mouth is sized and shaped to urge a pipe to reside in the mouth substantially orthogonal to the handle and at an angle other than 90 degrees from a plane of the slant piece. When an inserted end of the pipe is inserted through the mouth, a three point stance is formed by the support point, an opposite end of the pipe, and a support end of the handle. The inserted end of the pipe is thereby supported above the ground. The pipe holder is stabilized by stepping on the handle.

  • Patent number: 7154399
Abstract: A system and method for monitoring whether a resident is away from home or inactive within the home. A sensor, which includes a transmitter, a processor, a timer, and a detector, watches for motion to occur within a home. Upon sensing motion, the sensor sends a first signal indicative of the motion if the timer is not currently running and waits for the motion to end. If the timer already is running, the timer is restarted at zero. Upon expiration of a predetermined timing period, the sensor transmits a second signal indicative of inactivity. By comparing the timing of the second signal and the predetermined timing period, with a third signal sent by an exterior door sensor, a determination can be made whether the resident has left the home or is inactive within the home. The system includes a database, a CPU and State Model for determining the activity state of a home.

  • Publication number: 20060039780
Abstract: A non-circular can end for a container having walls which form an opening includes a corner-mounted pull tab opener secured to a severable panel portion by an integral rivet. The corner-mounted opener facilitates easy opening of the can end. A pair of generally parallel bead recesses on either side of the integral rivet stiffen the severable panel portion in order to facilitate bending of the panel aft of the rivet to easily open the can end. The severable panel optionally further includes a mustache-shaped scoreline to reduce the amount of force required to lift the opener. Tooling and a conversion press for converting shells into the non-circular can ends are also disclosed.
