Patent number: 4171826Abstract: A ski brake includes a pair of elongated levers each situated at one side of a ski and pivotable between an extended and an intermediate position laterally of the ski. A free end portion of the lever engages the surface on which the ski is supported when the ski becomes detached from the ski boot. A spring arrangement urges the respective levers toward their extended positions. The levers are further mounted on the ski for angular displacement between the intermediate position and a retracted position in which the free ends of the levers are located over the upper surface of the ski so as not to interfere with the proper operation of the ski. Another spring arrangement urges the levers from their retracted to their intermediate positions when the ski boot becomes detached from the ski.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1978Date of Patent: October 23, 1979Assignee: S.A. Patent number: 4171827Abstract: A ski brake mounted on a ski and retained normally in a retracted position. When the skier's boot becomes separated from the binding on the ski in a casual manner, such as during ascent on a chairlift, a strap joining the skier's boot and the ski brake permits the ski to remain connected to the skier, although in a dangling condition. However, should the skier's boot become separated from the binding in an abrupt manner, as when skiing, the strap releases a retention mechanism holding the brake in a first or retracted position. Thereupon, the strap is completely separated from the brake and the brake is rapidly moved by a spring into a second position such that a brake shoe extends below a lower surface of the ski for engaging ice, snow, and the like. The brake shoe has a roughened outer surface as a further aid in impeding advancement of the runaway ski. Whenever convenient to the skier, a release mechanism on the strap can be operated to disconnect the strap from the boot.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1978Date of Patent: October 23, 1979Inventor: Paul Gley

Patent number: 4171865Abstract: The present invention relates to focus and zoom adjusting levers in a binocular which are mounted in parallel with each other on a center shaft between a left side housing and a right side housing of the binocular body. By turning alternately the above two levers each of which is of a wing shape, a focus and zoom adjustment can be made smoothly and speedily, and a correct object is obtainable.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1978Date of Patent: October 23, 1979Inventor: Ichiro Kamakura

Patent number: 4171866Abstract: A disposable low cost laboratory slide for measuring particle concentration has a base plate in the form of a standard microslide whose thickness is compatible with microscope optics. Tapes of precise thickness formed of chemically inactive material and possessing mechanical stability are adhesively bonded to the base plate in spaced relationship, the thickness of the tapes establishing a precision depth for a volumetric slide chamber. A thin coverslip of standard thickness overlies the tapes and is bonded thereto, the thickness of the coverslip also being compatible with microscope optics. The disposable slide is used in a simple optical system with magnification wherein the field of interest is focused on a precision graticle or screen enabling precise measurement of the area of the slide volumetric chamber, following which the precise volume of the chamber can be determined and the concentration of particles in a specimen within the chamber calculated with precision.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1978Date of Patent: October 23, 1979Inventor: Walter E. Patent number: 4171867Abstract: One or more optical fibers, forming part of a cable for the transmission of luminous signals, are divided into sheathed sections spliced together inside a junction box having opposite walls provided with a pair of nipples in which the incoming and outgoing cable portions are resiliently clamped. Between these nipples the two sections of each fiber, partly stripped of their sheaths, are bent into a loop along which they are joined together by a sleeve. Adjacent fiber loops of the same cable can be separated within the box by interposed sheets. The loops not only relieve stresses on the bared fiber ends but also facilitate the equalization of ray paths in a multifiber optical cable.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1977Date of Patent: October 23, 1979Assignee: CSELT - Centro Studi e Laboratori Telecomunicazioni S.P.A.Inventor: Giuseppe Cocito

Patent number: 4171869Abstract: In a color separation prism system for a color television camera, a bias light source is located at a position substantially displaced from one or the other of the two intersections of (i) a plane including the optical axis of the taking lens of the camera and perpendicular to the plane including the optical axes of the three color light beams incident to the pick up tubes and (ii) the two parallel edges of a prism block formed by the entrance face thereof to which the light from the taking lens of the camera is incident and the upper and lower parallel faces of the prism block parallel to the plane including the optical axes of the three color light beams. The color separation prism system is particularly suitable for use in a system in which the refractive index of the glass constituting the prism blocks is as high as 1.7.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1978Date of Patent: October 23, 1979Assignee: Fuji Photo Optical Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takeshi Higuchi, Seiji Toyama, Hiroshi Yamada
