Abstract: A clamshell package for holding and displaying a product including first and second outer clamshell members each having three dimensionally shaped pocket areas for holding a portion of the product. The clamshell members also each include respective sealing portions which may be sealed together in a permanent manner. The package further includes selectively engageable fastening structure disposed on the first and second outer clamshell members generally adjacent the first and second sealing portions. When the sealing portions are removed, such as by cutting off the sealing portions, the selectively engageable fastening structure may be used to allow subsequent selective access to the product. A hinge portion may also be provided and may be formed from a pair of the sealing portions of the clamshell members to allow hinged movement of the clamshell members after other sealing portions have been removed by the user.

Abstract: A calcium carbonate mineral is placed in a lower portion of a second water tank, while sludge precipitated in a sixth water tank is returned to an upper portion. A blower and an air diffusion pipe weakly aerate the lower portion. Thus, an unreacted chemical sludge zone is formed in the upper portion of the second water tank. As a result, the second water tank can execute a primary treatment of fluorine in a waste water by the calcium carbonate mineral, a secondary treatment of fluorine and a primary treatment of phosphor by unreacted chemicals, treatment of surface active agent by microorganisms in a return sludge and reduction treatment of hydrogen peroxide by anaerobic microorganisms in the return sludge. The unreacted chemicals are thus reused, so that the amount of generation of waste can be reduced and concurrently the treatment can be executed with energy conservation.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for carrying out the affinity separation of a target substance from a liquid test medium by mixing magnetic particles having surface immobilized ligand or receptor within the test medium to promote an affinity binding reaction between the ligand and the target substance. The test medium with the magnetic particles in a suitable container is removably mounted in an apparatus that creates a magnetic field gradient in the test medium. This magnetic gradient is used to induce the magnetic particles to move, thereby effecting mixing. The mixing is achieved either by movement of a magnet relative to a stationary container or movement of the container relative to a stationary magnet. In either case, the magnetic particles experience a continuous angular position change with the magnet.

Abstract: An air mass or volume flow in an aircraft is controlled in a closed loop control system. A controllable air distribution network is formed by pipes, ducts, valves, fans, a fresh air supply and climate packs. The generation of a closed loop control signal is based on a continuous recalculation or updating of rated performance characteristic data with regard to current pressure, temperature and altitude data. The updated data are compared with actually measured current data to produce the control signal. The rated performance characteristic data are stored in a memory connected to a connected (32) which also receives the current data. The sensing ascertains one or more temperature, pressure, altitude and flow volume data to provide current actually measured data which are then compared with the updated data for generating the closed loop control signal for at least certain of the valves, fans, and fresh air supply.

Abstract: The invention provides a momentum wheel energy storage device for a spacecraft or satellite. The device has six wheels whose axes of rotation are parallel to edges of a tetrahedron. It thus provides redundancy which makes it possible simultaneously to store energy and to generate an arbitrary net angular momentum, even in the event of one of the wheels failing. The failure of one wheel can be accommodated without degrading operation, with energy storage being optimal regardless of the angular momentum to be generated. The failure of two wheels can be accommodated but operation may then be in degraded mode. Abstract: In an image-sensing apparatus, shading data obtained when a sensor 1 is irradiated with uniform light is compressed by a COM 6 and is then stored in a memory 3. During image sensing, the data stored in the memory 3 is decompressed back into the shading data by an EXP 7. By a COR 4, this shading data is subtracted from the image data obtained from the sensor 1, and thereby the unevenness in the outputs from the individual pixels of the sensor 1 is corrected.

Abstract: There is provided a two-port valve which has excellent durability and airtightness and can be easily processed with high accuracy and in which a valve seat can be easily replaced. For this purpose, a valve seat 8 is formed separately from a valve body 4 of a main valve and the valve body 4 is provided with a mounting portion 9 on which the valve seat 8 is seated. The mounting portion 9 is formed of an annular stepped portion including a bottom wall 41 and an outer peripheral wall 42. The bottom wall 41 is provided with a groove portion into which a sealant 44 is mounted and the outer peripheral wall 42 is provided in a vicinity of an upper portion thereof with a groove portion into which a snap ring 47 is mounted. The valve seat 8 is locked in a state in which the valve seat 8 is pressing the sealant 44 and pushed against the bottom wall 41 by the snap ring 47.

Abstract: A substantially sputtering-free low-profile low-restriction drain valve is used with a fluid reservoir having a drain opening. The drain valve comprises a valve body, a cap and at least one perforation-sealing member. The valve body has a tubular shank installed in the drain opening and defining a fluid ingress, and a tubular head portion generally coaxial with the tubular shank and defining a chamber in communication with the fluid ingress and having a cross sectional area larger than a cross sectional area of the fluid ingress. The tubular head portion comprises an inner transverse wall extending across the chamber and comprising at least one fluid flow perforation, and a distal end opposite to the shank. The cap is movably assembled to the distal end of the tubular head portion between open and closed positions. This cap defines a fluid egress which, in the open position of the cap, is in communication with the perforation to permit draining of fluid from the reservoir.
