The susceptor comprises a first susceptor portion including a surface for receiving a semiconductor substrate wafer thereon, and a second susceptor portion facing the substrate-receiving surface and spaced from the substrate-receiving surface. The spacing is sufficiently large to permit the flow of gases therebetween for epitaxial growth on a substrate on the surface, while small enough for the second susceptor portion to heat the exposed face of a substrate to substantially the same temperature as the first susceptor portion heats the face of a substrate that is in direct contact with the substrate-receiving surface.

    Abstract: In an electronic control for a hybrid vehicle which is driven either by an engine or an electric motor, or both, possible failures in an ignition system and a rotation sensor system are detected during a period in which the engine is rotated by the motor with no fuel supply. Only after no failure is found, the engine is started by supplying fuel and performing ignition. Thus, the fuel supplied to the engine is ignited without fail, and unburned gas release to the atmosphere is surely prevented. Also, good drivability is maintained. In case the invention is applied to a series hybrid vehicle which is driven solely by an electric motor powered by a battery which is charged by an electric generator driven by an engine, the ignition system is diagnosed when the engine is not rotating. After it is determined that there is no failure in the ignition system, the engine is started.

    Abstract: The fluid displacement pump enables substantially continuous pumping from a low-pressure side to a high-pressure side substantially without any backflow or backpressure pulsations. Liquid or gas is injected to the high-pressure side by way of mutually intertwined worm spindles that form a fluidtight displacement system. The blades of the impeller system are almost flat, i.e., their attack angle relative to backpressure is close to perpendicular so that they will turn quite freely in the forward direction, but will not be turned backwards by a pressurized backflow. The impeller rotation that is introduced via the spindle shafts nevertheless leads to a volume displacement towards the high-pressure side, for instance, towards a chamber to be pressurized or to be subjected to equal pressure. The impeller system can be driven with variable speed, which translates proportionally in a variable pressure buildup.

    Abstract: A method is provided to clean the interior surfaces, and especially the wafer chuck, of a metal vapor deposition chamber. The method takes advantage of the fact that the chamber controls the introduction and removal of chemical atmospheres, and the temperature inside the chamber. The method first oxidizes the surface to be cleaned with an oxygen plasma, and then removes the oxide products as a vapor with the use of Hhfac. The oxidization is controlled through the use of oxygen atmosphere, temperature, and radio frequency power levels.     Abstract: A sampler package for fluid cosmetics, creams, gels, and the like having a liquid solvent base includes a transparent composite laminate sealed with a composite laminate having a foil barrier layer. The sealed composite laminates form a pouch in which the cosmetic sample is contained. The transparent composite laminate is preferably adhesively laminated with either a biaxially oriented PVDC film or a polychlorotrifluoroethylene film as the moisture vapor barrier layer. The moisture permeability rate of the barrier film is at most 0.065 g/100 in2/24 hrs @100° F., 90%RH. Use of such transparent films as the barrier laminate permits the sampler package to be formed with a transparent window through which the color, texture, etc. of the sampler product may be viewed.

    Abstract: A control system and method for controlling a low-pressure die casting machine wherein the pressure within the dies more accurately tracks the desired recipe pressure. The control system senses pressure in the dies and compares the sensed pressure to desired pressure. Should the difference between the sensed pressure and the desired pressure be indicative of a problem in the casting operation, subsequent casting cycles are prevented. Should the difference between the sensed pressure and the desired pressure by indicative of a potential catastrophic failure, the current casting cycle is immediately terminated, thereby minimizing the possibility of catastrophic failure.     Abstract: A well has a vertical casing with a window, and a lateral wellbore which communicates with the window, and which may have a casing or liner. A window assembly aligned with the window has respective passageways for first and second tubing strings, and has a concave surface for deflecting the first tubing string out into the lateral wellbore. The passageway for the second tubing string has a portion which is inclined at a very small angle with respect to a vertical centerline of the vertical casing. As the first tubing string is run into the vertical casing, a rotational locator is releasably coupled thereto by a soft release coupling mechanism. After the locator effects rotational orientation, the coupling mechanism is released and then permits the first tubing string to move therepast without damage. A seal assembly on the first tubing string is covered by a protective sleeve as it is inserted into the well, and exits the protective sleeve after entering the lateral wellbore.
